  1. I am referring to how a restaurant makes sushi. they mKe it sticky somehow and when i googled it the article said the way its prepared is not gluten-free.
  2. RMJ...exactly! thats what bothered me the most, was she mentioned she thought about it but didnt buy anything i could eat. ugh
  3. I just recently found out sushi rice is not gluten free. So, I've stopped eating sushi. Maybe your neighbor was thinking about sushi? there's something about the way they prepare it to make it sticky. But...on the other hand...people are so clueless about what gluten is. Like the wheat vs. white flour. ugh
  4. I never expect to be catered to. I guess my point is people are insensitive...especially when they say oh sorry...and I thought of getting some veggies too...honestly it was just odd to see pasta and cake...not very balanced meal. And....yes I know I cannot change people. Just talking about it helps me.
  5. Sometimes I don't know if I am just too sensitive or if people are just plain rude and insensitive. Yesterday at work a co-worker who knows I have to eat gluten free went out and bought a bunch of pasta and cakes to welcome back a co-worker who was gone for a few months. I walked into the break room and saw nothing gluten free at all. She looked at me and...
  6. The bigger picture might be to ask yourself if you really want to keep living with a guy like this. Doesn't respect you and your needs, doesn't believe you, sounds like he gets mad easily too.
  7. It only bothered me because she came right out and said "Too bad you can't eat this...it's really good!" While shoving the cake in her mouth. It was rude.
  8. Thanks!!
  9. Tee hee...thanks! It was rude the way it happened, she said this while shoving the cake in her mouth. Maybe next time I'll say "Ok, maybe I will have a bite...then I can pass gas in your direction the rest of the day!!" lol
  10. Exactly! She did exactly that...made that comment while shoving it in her face. People don't get it. But she also sends me great gluten-free recipes. It's weird. Before my diagnosis, I never really noticed how much people talk about food!!! It's like they've never eaten cake, donuts or bagels before.
  11. Could it possibly be something you ate the day before? Sometimes my symptoms don't show up until the next day.
  12. So today at work we are having a potluck. Everyone kept talking about how wonderful the carrot cake was. On and on and on. I didn't say a word. Most of the food was gluten free, so that was nice. Someone told me "I am so sorry you can't eat gluten, this cake is SO GOOD." Finally I just said "That's ok, it will make you fat anyway." ha. I couldn't resist....
  13. I broke out in hives after taking Penicillin a few months ago. First time having hives. I thought I was going to die. I can't imagine dealing with this all the time. I had to go to the ER and get a steroid shot. they also gave me Atarax for itching. It helped, but made me tired. Everything makes me tired!
  14. Hi. Just curious if you eat the same types of foods all the time. I have such a sensitive stomach, I am thinking about only eating the same things over and over. It gets so depressing to react to everything I eat. My daughter and I are going to start a juice cleanse diet. I just wish I didn't have to eat. At work today there are a bunch of pastries. Whoopee...
  15. I agree with just telling restaurant workers you have an allergy. Then they get it. And they dont want you to stop breathing. Lol.
  16. This is what happens when I assumed something is gluten-free! Sweet potatoes with brown sugar and nuts on top. Why do you need to put flour in the topping? Of course its a potluck so everyone can bring what they want. But usually this type of topping doesnt have flour. i asked about it after the fact. I am working 12 hours. Luckily I brought Immodium. Hope...
  17. I just posted a complaint to her facebook page. I hope others will do the same. A few have already. Look up Theresa Caputo.
  18. I am so glad you saw it too!!! I agree. They thought it was FUNNY!! What if she did have it? You never know. Maybe her mom has it because she talks to 'spirit". Maybe the spirit is gluten fogging her big-haired head!!!
  19. I don't know for sure, but it didn't sound right. The Dr and her mother both thought the whole idea was silly. The daughter said she had stomach pain sometimes. Celiac is so difficult to diagnose. What about people who don't have many symptoms at all but have Celiac? I am just repeating what he said. Who knows what he was thinking? I don't like it when people...
  20. Tonight Theresa Capudo (Long Island Medium) was taking her daughter to the pediatrician because, in her words, "She has this crazy idea that she's allergic to gluten!" The Dr asked her daughter about her poop, and she said she only went once a day and it was normal. So, from her description of her poop and her other issues, it didn't sound like she had a...
  21. So, I thought I struck GOLD! I've been looking for a protein drink of some kind to substitute for a meal and to drink after exercise...and hopefully lose some weight...and today I found "Svelte". It tastes great...not gritty at all like other protein drinks, it's gluten free and the ingredients are pretty healthy. But one word I didn't recognize in the ingredients...
  22. I am really trying not to be upset about work potlucks but it's so hard. I am tired of people asking me what I can or cannot eat. One person told me they made a lasagna, but I can't eat it. Thanks, but I knew that already! Potluck is tomorrow. Yes everyone, I know I probably won't be able to eat the majority of what you bring so I will bring something I can...
  23. M-Rods: Thank you so much for the funny video clip!! I shared on my FB page. Funny. Started my day off with a laugh at least! I love it when he says: EVERYTHING! That's for sure!!
  24. M-rods: my concern is the stupid comments I hear at work about how people wish they had a reaction to something so they wouldn't be tempted to eat it. It's also hard when every time I go to wor there is something there I can't eat. The holidays are hard for me with all these goodies around. I don't expect them to eat the way I have to. I just expect people...
  25. That is NOT ok to be made fun of for having Celiac! Most of my co-workers understand and even apologize when they figure out I can't eat anything they bring. But there are a few people who are rude about the whole thing and even think it's a bogus disease. So, as I am typing this, cupcakes just appeared for a co-worker's birthday. I just can't wait to go...
