  1. Don't be so quick to think that buying and eating gluten free breads and such things is always good! I have found that whenever I eat such treats that are made with "substitute" flours, I have problems the next day. So, just eating plain food is the answer for me, even though there are lots of places to buy "gluten free" things. Good luck to you.
  2. I used to have migraines and when I got them I got the visual disturbances, the sick feeling, the headache and PANIC. I know just what you mean. I've been being treated for celiac and one of the things my doc has me on (because he tests for EVERYTHING!) is (among many other things) magnesium. You might ask your doc to check it out. It seems to be involved...
  3. I've just (Jan 7) gone on an elimination diet to see if I have sensitivity to any other grains besides the usual culprits! Also no nightshades, dairy, soy, latex bearing fruits (the ones with pits) unless they are frozen (assume they are nice and ripe when processed and the latex is gone), nuts, alcohol, chocolate and a bunch of other stuff! Saw the doc last...
  4. Are you saying that she feeds these things raw, with the bones intact?! I would really worry about doing that.
  5. I, too, wish you all the best. Sounds like the old chicken soup is helping! I've found an anti-viral that has helped protect me from my grandkid's "starting school" colds, etc. It's an Elderberry based tonic called Sambucus. Tastes good too and it's gluten-free. The one I have is from Nature's Way. I agree with putting away the crackers, toast and any...
  6. I've been diagnosed with celiac disease for two years and was doing well. Then something happened...not sure what but antibodies went up and arthritis set in. Can't find the gluten and now have to figure out what else is going on. I'm also an "older" newbie (over 70). I have quit grains for the time being (past 2 weeks) and my doc suggests at least two...
  7. Wow! I hope we can get this sort of legislation enacted here!! Thanks for the specifics.
  8. I have had similar experiences. However, when I phoned the manufacturer (Mylan for generic thyroid meds) the consumer rep was most courteous and really tried to be helpful. She looked at the ingredients and said that there were "no gluten products added" and that the alcohol was synthetic. I asked if they assayed the finished product and of course the answer...
  9. I don't know if it qualifies as a digestive enzyme but I think it does as a probiotic, and that is Kefir. The brand I use, Lifeway, says it's 99% lactose free, so I'm thinking that's probably okay. I'm currently starting an elimination diet and dairy is off limits, but I think Kefir is okay. I guess now that I'm writing this I'd better double check with...
  10. Interesting topic and I, too, need some help in figuring out just HOW to figure our what else I might be sensitive to. I try to keep a diary of what I'm eating, drinking and doing but somehow I get bogged down and don't know how to interpret it. I have, after reading lots of the messages on this website, decided to at least go grain free for a while (in addition...
  11. You might want your doc to check your calcium/magnesium levels. Also Vitamin D. I've been going through pain now for about 8 months and still trying to figure out what the bleep is going on! Slowly, oh so slowly, I seem to be "back on track" but it's really wearing to hurt every morning! Good luck!
  12. I, too, wonder about my generic L thyroxine since I was doing fine until last May or June when I started experiencing lots of pains all over my body. The pharmacy who fills my rx said they had not changed suppliers and gave me the name. I phoned them and they claimed their products are gluten free...but I've been reading on some of these postings that there...
  13. Well, I'm willing to try. I have given up ALL grains, including rice just to see. (My step daughter (also celiac disease) found that the sorghum in some mixes bothers her.) Unfortunately, my husband loves his potatoes...but it really doesn't bother me to give things up even if someone else is eating it infront of me. I just want to STOP HURTING!! My question...
  14. I'm hearing all of you! I've been on (what I believed was) a gluten free diet for 9 months. I was feeling better, my blood work was better, but somehow, somewhere, some gluten sneaked in and WHAM really messed me up! Tingly/numb toes, sore (burning) knee, sore fingers, a whole bunch of neurological things. I think I've had celiac for many years and didn't...

ARCHIVED What Type Of Doctor To See Next

My MD works in a regular setting but his practice is part of an "Integrative Medicine" practice. So, maybe look for that sort of practice and ask the receptionist or intake person which one(s) of the doctors work with nutrition and autoimmune problems. Also see if the practice has a nutritionist on staff (who knows about Celiac Disease!)
  16. I really can't remember if I started a new bottle. I did phone the mail order pharmacy to see if they had changed providers in the past year and the pharmacists claimed they hadn't. I got the name of the manufacturer and phoned them. They claimed that their facility is gluten free....but I wasn't as knowledgeable then as now, so I think I'm going to do some...
  17. Thanks to you all for your insights and sharing. I will try to "digest" all and come up with a plan....I don't have a thyroid gland anymore as I had a huge, hidden goiter surgically removed about 5 years ago, which is one of the clues my new doctor used to suspect I had Celiac. I am on levo thyroxine, too, and will check to see who the manufacturer is and...
  18. Not sure what I need to do next! sorry, not too computer savvy. If you can let me know, I'll do it. Thanks. I'm anxious to start participating. Feel free to email me instructions!

  19. To start with, I'm more than double your age so things will probably move slower for me than for you! I was diagnosed with Celiac two years ago, but didn't really take it seriously until March 2010 and I seemed to be progressing well (according to blood tests) when something unknown happened in June or July which sent my antibodies soaring. Along with...
