  1. I haven't experienced the lip chapping recently but I think you're on the right track with the b vitamins. Maybe you need to add others. There are some good B-100s or B-75s on the market. Get the timed release ones otherwise I suspect they go in and out rather quickly and you want to keep bathing your cells as much as possible. I've been taking Solaray brand...
  2. Meg, I don't know how others on the Forum feel about this, but I did go for physical therapy on my shoulders (recently) and I think it might help to keep my joints more limber. When I hurt I know I don't move around as much as I should and I'm afraid inactivity will just make things worse. Anyone out there with similar idea? Luddie
  3. I'll chime in to agree. My pains seem to migrate around my body. Currently shoulders, arms, hands, right wrist and a couple of fingers. Yes, the doctors say it's arthritis in some places or tendonitis. I asked the rheumatologist if he thought celiac or certain foods might make it worse and his comment was that it might. At least his wife seemed to think that...
  4. True, stopping it would be one way to see, but if you're planning to have any endoscopic testing done you shouldn't stop eating gluten before you have it. I know people (in my own familly) who self-diagnosed (after seeing at least two doctors) and went gluten-free and at least their bathroom symptoms all went away! I myself did not have an endoscopy but relied...
  5. I had a similar experience last summer. Still don't know from what as I never had gut problems either. My symptoms were lots of aches and pains in muscles and joints and the big D. This went on for months. I finally went on an elimination diet to try to figure out if there was a sensitivity. Nothing really definitive showed up. I subsequently starting thinking...
  6. Wow, it's good that you posted this symptom though. Never know when the information will come in handy!
  7. I think the vitamins and minerals will certainly help. I, too, have the sore muscles and joints and it doesn't help my piano playing at all because it's mostly in my shoulders and wrists. A bit of neuropathy, too. I'm a very active, multi organization volunteer person who was diagnosed with celiac only 4 years ago, when I was 73! Talk about surprise!! It...
  8. Just a quick warning of sorts that sorghum can sometimes cause problems. My daughter has celiac and got symptoms from eating a mix and the only thing suspect in it was the sorghum. Not everyone reacts, of course, but be wary at first and don't invest in huge quantities if you're not sure you're okay with it.
  9. Hi, Just my two cents worth, when I was diagnosed with Celiac (I didn't have any intestinal symptoms, just migraines and a thyroid condition) my doctor slowly put me on really high doses of certain vitamins and minerals along with a gluten free diet. With blood tests every three months he was able to see just what was going on, and now, three years later...
  10. With all this talk of food, I'm going down to see what's in the fridge!!!
  11. First of all, you are definitely not alone in this. I was eating some gluten free stuff and found out that I must be sensitive to some grains normally thought to be okay, so I have gone completely grain free just to be sure. I take b vitamin complex to make up for some of what's missing) and the comments made about gaining weight from the excess carbs in...
  12. Hi all who are commenting on this topic: I have to say that having a nutritionist/dietician who KNOWS A LOT ABOUT CELIAC DISEASEcan be extremely helpful. My doc has one on staff and I can email her (or him, for that matter) to bounce ideas, or to ask questions. I also attend the classes his office provides, including one on Celiac Disease, and since there...
  13. Hi chili, I switched to Aubrey Shampoo, Gel and hair spray. I spoke with them about 2 months ago and decided that their products are okay. No guarantees, of course, but my IGa went down while using these products, so I guess that's some sort of validation. I never thought of the dish detergent. I guess I should. Just too many things to keep track of...
  14. Jenn, I've come to the point that I don't eat ANY prepackaged food, whether or not it says gluten free. In all honesty people may put that label on a product, but not realize about potential cross contamination (that's giving people the benefit of the doubt ) Seriously, it's much safer to make your own. Takes longer, but definitely safer. Luddie
  15. HOW TRUE! HOW TRUE!! It does take a lot of work to follow this path. Luddie
  16. Mox, You didn't say which blood test was negative. As for the gene testing, my doc sends to Mayo Clinic for that. Shows whether or not you have the genes for celiac, but of course doesn't mean that you do even if you have the genes. The mucus might have to do with some sort of bacterial overgrowth in your small intestine. I have celiac disease and have...
  17. From what my doctor says, there is a lot of new research showing that there is appreciable amounts of gluten in things that were thought to be safe, so the cake may have been made with some of those ingredients. Sorghum is one thing. I'll try to get the website that has the chart with all the figures on it. Also, some people are so sensitive to gluten that...
  18. I started having lots of aches and pains last summer even though I was on gluten free everything! I have struggled through until now and have been on an elimination diet through doc/nutritionist for the past 3 weeks to see if we can figure out what's happening. My pains are lessening considerably, so I'm hoping tomorrow's blood test will show some really...
  19. I'm so sorry to hear of her severe problems. I have celiac but I'm old! However, I have just come across an older version of a Celiac diet that seems to help other problems too, and it's not too bad to follow. No gluten, of course, and some other restrictions, but if she (and you) get some relief from worrying and her blood tests get better, the restrictions...
  20. Another parasite my doc tests for (I think mostly in his Celiac patients but I'm not sure) is strongyloides. He's had several patients come up positive. (Luckily I wasn't one of them!) There doesn't seem to be a lot of symptoms unless you're immunocompromised. Anyhow, I think the original clue came from an article out of Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston...
  21. I, too, am no techie and I have to admit I don't know what the word "avatar" means, let alone what I'm supposed to do with it, or for it, or to it! Enlightenment needed! Luddie
  22. I, too, am having a problem with getting gluten somewhere. Apparently it is hidden in a lot of plain foods. I'm even now wondering about meats that are fed grains! My tests were going down, but suddenly started going up even after I had stopped eating anything but plain "naked" foods. I'm keeping a food and activity diary and hope I can pinpoint at least...
  23. I've had a weird response, too, but I was attributing it to the massive vitamins and minerals I'm currently taking. The weird response is, my hair is suddenly thicker and growing in wavy/curly on one side of my head! I've had terrible hair all my life, silky, thin and STRAIGHT!So I'm having fun with my "new look". Besides that, I'm on an elimination diet...
  24. Couple of things: could you go to another doctor who DOES know more about Celiac disease? Ask the receptionist if the doctor does a lot of biopsies. I was told that it takes some skill and skill oftentimes comes with practice. Not that you'd necessarily want to have another biopsy, but just to talk with him/her about yours. I base the second comment on a...
