Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to all of you. I really appriciate everyone's input. My 'puter went down right after I posted this question. We had a big power surge and I finally figured out it was the ethernet card that went out. So, now I have replaced the ethernet card and am back on the information highway!!! WaHoo! Man, I am way to dependent...

Okay, I can make regular rice. You know the long grain not instant. But I have been watching food network and the chefs/cooks on the station say to add more flavor to your rice use some broth. Chicken or beef. I have tried this four or five times and each time is a disaster. The rice does not seem to want to soften up when I use broth instead of good...

I have heard the same thing. However, when I consume a liquor with a wheat base (which is most of them) I feel sick the next day. (not hang over sick, just sick.) Now this could be another allergy but if I stick to the clears and choose vodka's made of potato or corn I do not have the same problems. So personally I decided to stay safe rather than sorry...

ARCHIVED Bread Baking..not Rising?
casnco replied to Alz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hmmm, I don't know about increaseing the yeast. I have thought about it but have never done it. And sugar or honey does help the yeast rise. I put my loves in the microwave to rise. I don't turn the microwave on, I just use it as a draft free environment. However, I have never used a recipie that calls for a rise, knock back and a second rise. I have... -

ARCHIVED Washing Fruit And Vegtables
casnco replied to casnco's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here in the states there has been a great deal of samonilla outbreaks coming from our fruits and vegtables. Also Ecoli has been found stemming back to fresh fruits and vegtables. First it was spinich then tomatoes. Who knows what else it will be found in. I have NEVER washed off fruits of veggies before this. I am a country girl and we just washed off... -
ARCHIVED Washing Fruit And Vegtables
casnco replied to casnco's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks "Purple" and "Fiddle Faddle" for your comments. I will look up the sites suggested. And a little soap and water is probably a good idea. I agree about "they" wanting us to believe "their" product is the only way to clean our fruit/vegtables. -
I have been using the comercial vegtable and fruit wash. I think it is called "Fit"? Does anyone know of a good home syle method that wont take heavey rinseing or leave a residue? Would a mixture of peroxide and water work without spoiling the fruit/vegtable? Thanks for your input. Debbie

Hey Heather, welcome to the site. I have learned so much here. Hope you do also. Thanks for your input. I am still not sure if I want to spend the money. Have you ended up with a lot of spam once you joined her site?

Does anyone on this site subscribe to the "gluten free baking" website? There is a $34.99 membership fee. Just wondering if it is worth the money?

Can anyone tell me why so many gluten free recipies call for corn starch? I have recipies that call exclusively for corn starch. Or corn starch and potato starch. They are usually for pasteries/cookies. They always look great and taste terrible. I recently added coconut four to one such recipie and reduced the corn starch and there was a great improvement...

These sound great! Do you buy The spring roll wrappers or do you make them? And my next question would be where do you buy them?/ Or How do you make them? -
ARCHIVED How Gluten Free Is Your Home?
casnco replied to Merika's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No question about it. My house is 100% gluten free! I host the family thanksgiving and christmas party for 30 people and I do all the cooking. Family members bring drinks and vegtables. Nothing else. I preapprove the dip. Am I a little uptight about this? YEP! Recently I allowed my best friend to bring a PB&J sandwich into my home for her picky... -
I would use a mask, fans to keep your area clean of flour dust, gloves, frequent hand washing. Keep your hands away from your face. Have seperate work clothes from casual clothes. Wash them seperately. You said you already feel better. If after time, all of this is not enough, you will know in your heart what to do. Good Luck! Hope you keep bakeing...

ARCHIVED Domata Flour
casnco replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
what is domata flour and what was different about it than rice, sourgum, coconut or the various other flours we use? Thanks Debbie -
Karli: Pork Loin is our favorite. I have never had a dry loin. I usually sear my loin before I roast or grill it. Then roast it for about an hour or till the internal temp is about 160. (Not positive on the internal temp. I always look it up.) If you are still concerned about moistness you can use a can of Coke in the roasting pan. Sounds weird but...

To elaborate a little on this post. In my very small town we have two McDonalds. I love their Strawberry Milkshake. On the South end of town the toppings for some other ice cream product are just above the lids for the shakes. I found this out when oreo crumbs were on my shake lid. I had gone through the drive thru when I purchased this shake. So I...

My herbalist is against microwaves also and suggested a thurmos for my warm food. There are small ones that will hold food other than soup. You can buy them at discount department stores like WalMart ant Target in the camping section. Good Luck! -
Caralouise: How did you contact Red Lobster? Is this person from your local resturant or corpporate? I am just curious. And I might want to add my 2 cents worth for this person or someone at the corporate level. My husband and I frequent a local Seafood resturant in a small resort community in the Mid West. This place is actually podunk no where!...

In the emergency room they gave me Maloxx. I never gave much thought to taking an antacid. I gave all the credit to the demerol. Guess I will need to rethink the antacid. And maybe look at my food intake that might exacerbate the CC with the acid issue. Thanks Bea.
