  1. My eyes just cannot avoid the sight of wheaten bread and cakes. They gloom at me, they stare at me, they watch me very closely, they can't wait for me to give in and have their opportunity to attack my insides. That decadent looking piece of cake; should I eat it or should I not? If I do... It will eat ME! Seriously, I can tell when foods are DEFINITELY...
  2. I find I have trouble sleeping whenever I've been glutened. Not when I'm gluten free. Though since being gluten-free, I believe my fitness levels are much lower than they once were. I used to do really well in athletics when I was young however that seemed to change as soon as I went gluten free Strange...
  3. I'd say it is definitely coeliac disease. A vast majority of concerns turn out to be realities in this case. Sorry to be the potential bearer of bad news, however so many I think underestimate the prevalence of coeliac/celiac disease. All the best
  4. Agreed!
  5. Which gluten free bread did you try? What brand? Let me know so I consider avoiding it. I hear Udi's is really good, the best in the USA. You'll get more used to it I never miss *regular* shelf bread. I think it's DISGUSTING! I'd make bread at home if I could eat gluten again. The stuff they add to wheaten shelf bread is disgusting: soy flour...
  6. Have just spoken with a number of authorities who have advised me that the "Gluten Friendly" label is ILLEGAL despite its abundance in describing foods in Australia as such! They agree with me that it is NOT appropriate for businesses to label foods as 'gluten friendly' as it is not a term in the Australian Food Code and was made up by some *company* trying to cover themselves. Nice try YOU STINKERS! *snort* *snort*!

  7. Most definitely sounds like coeliac disease. I had mouth ulcers and just looked awful. Parents were POISONING me with foods I hated and never liked. NOW I KNOW WHY I NEVER CARED FOR gluten-laden foods. I have never been a bread person and have never really been a food addict myself but accidental exposure is devastating. There needs to be s lot more advice...
  8. It must be hard being vegetarian as well. From time to time, I have considered it however I find I need as much protein as I can get so vego is a no-no for me
  9. My name is Kelly also. Kelly Nolan. I'm from Down Under! I've been coeliac for 13 years and have yet to meet anyone else my age who is 'truly' gluten free. What I mean is: not just a 'fad' dieter (I've met some of these from time to time) but never anyone else on a "TRUE" gluten free diet! I feel so alone, too!
  10. I really have a lot of time for your patience, Brigit! It is a real virtue and I feel that we need to be open (not whinging) but not guilty and/or worried about what others think too overly. I always say to 'do your best and let others do or say whatever'. All the best
  11. The coeliac test is not accurate. Did you get a gene test at all? I believe the DQ2 and DQ 8 genes are the two that must be present in order for you to be suffering from celiac disease
  12. You're right, It can be very difficult being new to the gluten free diet. I know many who go through these struggles day-to-day. One thing I am doing is taking a variety of businesses and restaurants to task that FALSELY advertise gluten free foods. I have much passion for the gluten free diet and am keen to make the gluten free labelling laws within Australia...
