ARCHIVED Looking For Sub For Xanthan Gum
mommyto2kids replied to AVR1962's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Bisquick makes me sick. Also Arrowmills. I made pancakes from them today and got super sick. I wonder if it was the xanthum gum. But I'm fine with it in my bread. So maybe it is the amount. Maybe someone could make a list at the end of the post of all the substitutions that work. Yes please what baking mixes or flower mixes do not have the gums already... -

ARCHIVED Still Symptomatic After 6 Months Of gluten-free Diet?
mommyto2kids replied to DanPatch's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What helped me was eating for IBS combined with eating gluten free. I started this because I was misdiagnosed for 3 months with interstistial stistitis. The founder of the ic network has ibs and I learned all about it. But when they realized I had celiac disease, I combined eating for IBS and I was able to get it under control. There are many good books out... -

My son reacts to red dye and chocolate so eliminate those. Also it could be the age. For years I thought my daughter was special needs because she was so mean and strong willed. It was just her. Now she is six and better. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do When Your Friends Just Don't Get It?
mommyto2kids posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've been through so much the last 6 months medically. I have a friend that keeps grilling me to help in my kid's class. She thinks I'm not doing my part and hinting at it. Not sure what to do? Truey going to tell her where to go, just drives me nuts. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Forgive Yourself?
mommyto2kids replied to newmom07's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One thing I learned today after calling Safeway about some bacon is that you must be firm on the phone. It really doesn't matter if they think you are rude. The person said "Yes I think that is gluten free". I said "You must be sure now please check. I have to know for sure. I'm calling for your store and I have to know." The Safeway store told me to call... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Sick Today After Eating "gluten Free" Pizza
mommyto2kids posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was find the first day, but ate the left overs last night. And today I feel real sick. Sick enough to stay home freom the Halloween parade at school. They used preshredded cheese. I was a little worried about that. I also rarely eat pizza, so maybe that is it too. I rarely eat onions and they put onions on. What do I do now to get better? Should I take... -

Where we live there 2 public home school options where the kids can home school and a tiny bit of public school all paid for with public school funding, pretty cool. Also we have one charter school that is not allowed to do any holidays at all. Bet they do less food. Check out you options.

ARCHIVED Word Search Help For Gluten Free Magazine
mommyto2kids posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I told the mom daughter team I'd help them with their magazine on gluten.net. Can you all help me with a list of yummy things to eat for Thanksgiving that are gluten free please. She's offered to have the kids at my kids' school help her and I need your help. We need to make a word search. Can you ask your kids to help you come up with a list of yummy gluten... -

Just trying to understand. Does Skylark think that xanthumgum could be an allergen to Celiacs? I wonder that with baking flour, gluten free for myself. -

All I know is I hate being sick. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm sure your daughter doesn't want you sick. If gluten free makes you sick, don't do it. There are other ways to help your daughter. You tried and it didn't work. We do a gluten free dinner. That is what has worked for us. Maybe try that. As you said, she's gone all day. So what's the point other... -

ARCHIVED A Cool Resource For Kids
mommyto2kids replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glad it is of help to you. I think the message here is for adults almost more than kids. I'm thinking of getting involved in GIG's restaurant Awareness program. This would be a splendid way to teach adults in the restaurant industry what life is like for the celiac population. Don't you think? -
ARCHIVED Natural Flavors
mommyto2kids replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Grated cheese is dusted with flour and not declared because it is on, not in the cheese. That can be a tricky one. So that is one way they can get around declaring wheat in something. -
ARCHIVED What Food Do You Miss Most And What Has Taken It's Place?
mommyto2kids replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I thought diet coke had malt in it and that has gluten or was it the carmel color. I think aspertame gives me the runs and I don't need more of that. Am I wrong about the first 2? I want all the baking recipes. Please post.
