Hi everyone,
I've been 100% gluten free since March, and I feel better, though I tend to get major episodes of bloating etc. often. Because my stympoms are not immediate, it is very hard for me to figure out what is wrong with me. I don't think my wheat intolerance is so bad that CC effects me, but it is hard to know. And also, when i get "sick" it lasts for days, so it is also hard to pinpoint the cause.
I suspect I may be allergic or intolerant to soy, but don't know. I'm a vegetarian so giving up these foods is very difficult. I've stuck with gluten free because I couldn't take the bloating anymore. I am not diagnosed celiac (i did have the panels done but was eating gluten sometimes when I had the test done last year, so everything was negative (not even close to borderline).
I'm sort of at the end of my sanity- it is very hard to still feel crappy even though I have been so committed to gluten free.
So my question: what should I do? I've not had any testing done except the celiac panel which was negative. If you were me, what would you do to figure out what is wrong? What type of testing could I do? Enterolab?
Any help appreciated!

Hi everyone. So I have never been diagnosed with celiac. I gave up wheat generally many years ago, and then was tested for celiac (negative) a few time, but wasn't eating gluten regulary. In beginning of March i gave up gluten completely- total elimination. I noticed that I was better, but then realized that something was still bothering me. I think it soy bothers me some too. So I gave up soy (I eat a lot of soy) and thought, i better try to eat some bread to make sure it was not just the soy all that time. Well I ate half a piece of bread on saturday night and I'm paying for it. I don't get D, but I get so bloated it hurts and when I eat anything at all the boating comes back with a vengance. My stomach feels "sour", the worst part is that the symptoms are still full on. They came on strongest last night (24 hours after eating) and are still going strong. about 10 hours after eating the bread I had pain in my stomach, that went away and the bloating came on strong. My stomach also gurgles a lot.
I just want to know if 1. other people who are not celiac have similar symptoms. 2. has anyone on here who is not celiac tried to reintrotudce wheat or gluten later on and have been successful and 3. how long will these symptoms last?
I ask non-celiacs because everything I have read says that if you are just "intolerant" you are not damaging your intestines.
I'm so frustrated. I was doing so well and now i feel like this is such a set back. any words or wisdom is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I have a question. I've been gluten free for three months. When I do have symptoms because I eat gluten (cross contamination) I notice my symptoms are worst on day 2 and three, and the worst when I eat. So if I consume some gluten, my symptoms kick in strong the next day/ a few days later, and get really bad after I eat anything. My symptoms are a very sour stomach, pain, and severe bloating. is this common?
Any advise is appreciated, including how to alleviate the symptoms (bloating, sour stomach, grumbling stomach)
Thanks!!!!

Thanks- I have tried Dr. Praegers. the one I tried though was not soy based and was not that high in protein. Maybe i didn't try the right one? I'd love to find an alternative to the boca or morning star soy burgers.

Has anyone found a high protein (soy burger?) that is gluten free? I'm vegetarian, I used to live on Boca burgers because they are so high in protien and low in fat/carbs- but can't seem to find any alternative now that I'm eating gluten free. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I forgot to mention that a leading Canadian celiac expert last week said at a lecture that only 39% of all biopsies are correctly done in Canada. Not sure about the US. She said those who are getting biopsies must get at least 8-11 of them for greater accuracy. Not to dissuade you if it is what you want/need to do - just to let you know to request numerous biopsies if you do proceed.
If you cannot stand the thought of eating LOTS of gluten for a long period of time I believe you have the answer.
Thanks everyone for your responses. it is all very reassuring. Based on all the information I have read on these forums, I think I'll just stay on the course. One follow-up question- when people reintroduce gluten for the "gluten challange", do they jump right into it with sandwhiches/pasta etc.? I probably should at least do that once, to see what happens. So far, all the gluten I have had since I went on a strict elimination has been very very little by accident. (like a little soy sauce etc.)

I am fairly new to this site. My story, in short is like this, I gave up most wheat (but not all, more as a lifestyle choice) about 5 years ago after being sick of fatigue, weight gain etc. It helped, a lot. But then the last year or soon, all those symptoms came back. I am always bloated, stomach pain increasingly, constipated, tired etc, a little weight gain and no weight loss even with increased excersise, less foof input etc.. So, i first gave up lactose, then soy, etc. etc. Finally, I decided to cut out all gluten. Even though I wasn't eating wheat regulatly at this time, I was still eating it and other forms of gluten in small forms. So now it has been 2 1/2 months and I am off all glluten completely, and I am much better. I'm not 100%, but much better. My celiac test panels that I took several years ago were taken when I was already off of wheat for the most part, and were negative. I did see a GI doctor amount 3 months ago who thought I might have gluten intolerance or celiac, but because I was basically off gluten, didn't see the point in taking the blood test.s So I'm curious what others have done in this situation? Would you suggest I go back on gluten to get my testing? When I have gluten now, the next two days I am in a lot of pain and have a lot of bloating. I'm almost scared to eat it reguarly especially as I am MUCH more sensitive to it now than I was before i cut it out completely. I'm just looking for advise from folks- would they go back to gluten?

Hi,
I gave up gluten completely about 2 months ago. Now though, if I accedently eat some, I have sever stomach pain and bloating. I used to get some pain and bloating, but now it is almost intolerable. I am wondering if this is commen. As I am still in the "diagnosis" stage, if this is not common then I wonder if I need to be looking to see what the cause is. It seems to happen though when I can pinpoint a hidden gluten.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
