  1. Is he normally taking in gluten in his diet? If so, I wouldn't have thought you needed to completely gluten him up. My daughter was on her normal diet which incl. gluten when she went for her test and her levels were very high. I wouldn't suggest making him gluten free before any tests but I also don't feel it necessary to gluten him up. Just let him...
  2. From what I've read, you can be gluten sensitive without having celiac disease. What are his symptoms. How is is when he's gluten free and when he's had gluten? Any differences?
  3. Thank you so much for your replies and supportive words. It just feels so overwhelming. My test is tommorrow as well as hubbys although its my family history that I think is the reason my daughter has this. Nurse said she'd ask doctor about the test and I said that I will insist on having it as I'm not risking getting osteoporosis, bowel cancer etc. I...
  4. I've just counted 6 people we have to deal with due to daughters recent celiac disease diagnosis, and I'm thinking, my God, there's a lot going on! I've been in several meetings with inclusion lady at school for months, I've got app for a dietician, got daughters gastro and the dr covering for her for a month, surgeon who'll do biopsy and a nurse in the...
  5. It's a big shock to begin with, isn't it? My daughter has just been diagnosed and as bowel probs run in my family, I will be tested too. I hesitate to call celiac disease a 'sickness'. It's an auto immune 'disease'. I have thyroid disease which is auto immune but although I take a daily tablet, I don't consider myself 'sick'. I know this is all going...
  6. It looks like a graze. Like if you fall over and scrape your knee, except hers is on the back of her knee. When she was 2 or 3 she broke out in hives all over her body on two occasions. The dr was confused as to what it could be, looked it up in a book, and said it was an allergic reaction. It only happened twice and never again. I've also had a bad case...
  7. Since diagnosis last week, I feel like my daughters getting worse with her behaviour. For over a year she's been making strange noises and jerky movements. I was just wondering if this is part of taking in gluten. She'll suddenly burst out with a high pitched scream or make other odd (loud) noises, for no reason. She'll also through her arms up in the...
  8. I've read about two other people via the web with tTG>128 and also tested positive with gut biopsy. Still awaiting an appointment...
  9. Is insomnia a symptom of celiac disease? My daughter seems to be getting worse and worse at bedtime. She just can't sleep. She sits up or lies down for hours after going to bed. I have the same problem most of the time (although I've not been diagnosed as yet, but I suspect it).
  10. My 9yr old daughter has recently been diagnosed as Celiac. Bowel probs run in my family so I will be getting tested too. I'm constantly tired and was diagnosed with thryroid probs last year. My daughter doesn't have the shortness. She is tall and very skinny. I checked her BMI for kids and seems normal although she looks underweight. She's always irritable...
  11. I no longer live in South Africa. I moved to the UK 10 yrs ago (where I met my husband). Thank God I'm here as treatment/tests are free :0) So, in simple terms, what has she been tested for. What is tTG and IgA. I'm trying hard to find a simple term for these as everything online is very medical and complicated!
  12. I didn't know I could do that. She's suffered urine infections for 5 yrs. Her hospital folder is thick. I've only kept hospital app. letters and the odd test that they send to me but thats all.
  13. No worries Haven't thought of picking up a copy. Just got this letter through post. Looks like they're trying to rush her for biopsy as it's been faxed to 2nd hospital rather than posted. Just want them to hurry so I can get her on gluten free diet. She's had a day off school today as she's not well.
  14. Our local hospital has contacted another hospital 20 mins away (one we've used before for her). We're now awaiting an app. via phone call.
  15. I don't know much about these particular results. She was also tested for her bones via blood, thyroid, anemia and two others. All normal with them. What is the normal range for TTG? I've read 0-6 and also 0-20...
  16. It just says TTG>128 in letter. I'm trying to find out what's normal. So far it looks really high
  17. TTG>128 with a normal IgA of 1.03.
  18. My family have a history of bowel problems. I don't know the exact diagnosis's of them other than my nan who had colon cancer and my aunt who has IBS. An uncle and cousin (his niece) died due to complications with the bowel. My daughter has been diagnosed aged 9 with celiac. I'm starting to wonder whether I could have it too. My blood test will be next...
  19. I'm a South African in the UK My daughter has recently been diagnosed through blood test with celiac disease (she also has all the symptoms). My family have a history of bowel problems so I will be getting a blood test too. I've read up on loads of info but I'm sure there's still a lot more to learn.
  20. Cara, I feel the same about giving my child gluten whilst waiting for the biopsy. I can't see the point in having it when she's clearly have gut problems and had positive bloods. Even if her biopsy comes back neg, she will be gluten free. She can't go on being poorly much longer.
  21. I'm looking forward to having a better behaved child once she's gluten free. I've always said, that there's naughty and then there's her behaviour (I have two others to compare with). It appears to be a level above 'normal' bad behaviour. I feel bad having to keep her on gluten until biopsy :0(
  22. Why, when my daughter has had a positive blood test for celiac disease, do the drs want a biopsy? And when taking the biopsy do they have a look at her gut or just take what they need?
  23. For those who's children were diagnosed and now on gluten free. Were there any noticeable behaviour problems/improvements? I've read about kids misbehaving quite badly on gluten and I know my daughter has bad moments, so wondering if anyone has experience of this.
  24. Thank you to you two who replied so quickly. You both sound so friendly! I've learnt that I can get gluten free products on perscription. As some products are quite expensive, I'm sure I'll take advantage of that. I hate keeping her on the gluten now, but I will do my best to follow doctors orders. I'm crossing everything that app will come quickly....
  25. My daughter has recently been diagnosed with celiac disease. She'd been constipated and bloated since Dec (but now wondering if it's been longer). We found out by chance as she was having a bladder scan. She's suffered urine infections since just before 4 yrs old. After starting on Senna she started soiling everyday throughout the day. She then moved...
