ARCHIVED Testing Question
Newbee replied to graciebean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No. Because you have been gluten free for so long your biopsy would likely be negative even if you had damage to begin with. They say the intestines can heal quickly after going gluten free. Even though my doctor was certain I had celiac because my blood tests were so highly positive I still had to continue to eat gluten until the day of my endoscopy just... -
ARCHIVED I Flunked The 6 Month Follow-Up Blood Test - Help!

Why did they remove some of your bowel? I guess at least the numbers are going down but frustrating not to know from where. -

Healinginprogress, has your TTG gone down at all in a year? What was your original score? -
ARCHIVED I Flunked The 6 Month Follow-Up Blood Test - Help!
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for everyone's responses! Although I do find it disturbing that it could take more than a year to really get the blood tests normal. Gemini - you mentioned the ttg was high for you at one year due to other autoimmune conditions. I didn't know it worked like that. I've kind of wondered if I could have other autoimmune issues. What other autoimmune... -
ARCHIVED I Flunked The 6 Month Follow-Up Blood Test - Help!
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I live by myself so no issues with anyone consuming gluten in my house. I have looked at gluten in everything as you mentioned (hair conditioners, shampoo, anything I put on my face, etc.). What kind of freaks me out is if I could be getting some kind of cross contamination from some processed thing where I can't find information from the company admitting... -
I've read that doing a rotation diet is a good idea as you can develop other food intolerances if you eat them regularly. I've thought about trying this diet but can't figure out how to make it work just preparing food for one person. Good for you for taking so many other things out of your diet besides gluten. I want to try that eventually.

ARCHIVED I Flunked The 6 Month Follow-Up Blood Test - Help!
Newbee posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So I had my 6 month follow-up blood test from having been gluten free (TTG IGA). My original score was 125. Even though it appears I've probably had the disease my whole life (I'm 37 now) my doctor was very confident I would be back to normal after 6 months. But I'm not. My result this time was 33. For this test they said anything higher than 19 is considered... -
ARCHIVED Fairly Sure That Mom And I Have Celiac..
Newbee replied to atan91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like you both very possibly have celiac disease. Your brain fog sounds very similar to what I have. I really thought my symptoms (besides the brain fog) were not really that bad but I am in the late stages of the disease so you really never know. It is best to be tested and important to know what is really wrong with you. If you've been gluten... -
ARCHIVED Newly Gluten-Free And Frustrated With Ongoing Stomach Issues
Newbee replied to ifcrossroads's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may depend on what you have. I've heard those with gluten intolerance may feel better right away but those with celiac disease can take much longer. Some celiacs feel better right away but others take months or even years. It is unfortunate that your doctor did not do a celiac blood test before advising you to try going gluten free. I say that because... -
ARCHIVED Finally, Got Myself Tested Today...
Newbee replied to kendon0015's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You did consume some gluten containing food before having the blood test, right? I ask because you need to be eating food with gluten in it for the tests to come out correctly. Otherwise you may come back with a false negative result. My doctor did not tell me this when I had my blood test. Luckily I was eating gluten anyway, but I was disturbed that... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?

I'm having a veggie omelette with onions, green peppers, and little bit of cheddar cheese and hashbrowns. -
ARCHIVED Follow Up With Gi At Mayo Craziness
Newbee replied to watata's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find this all very confusing. So you had positive tests for celiac (including the biopsy) and the doc told you you might not have it? Huh? I thought a positive biopsy always meant celiac. Why does he not think that is the case? Also, I'm surprised they tested your blood after only 6 weeks, but glad to hear it is good. -
ARCHIVED Recovery Tips Please?!
Newbee replied to GFH33's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear you are not feeling better yet. I understand how you feel. I also can not tell much difference although I'm only less than 3 months on the gluten-free diet. Some people feel better right away and others take a long time. Do you suspect you've had celiac for years. They say you are slower to heal if you've had it for a long time. I've heard... -
ARCHIVED Have Gluten Intolerance And Ibs :(
Newbee replied to BarbieGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Best to see a good doctor who will give you some tests. They really should be ordering some tests before they tell you IBS. I was told I had IBS years ago but they didn't test for anything. Years later I asked for the celiac blood test (thinking I didn't have it of course but wanting to rule it out) and I came out positive with lots of damage showing up... -
ARCHIVED Distended Abdomen
Newbee replied to Findberlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had distention from time to time when I really glutened myself. It would typically appear after dinner but I would be back to normal by the following morning. -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Food When Not At Home
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll have to look into getting a thermos. I hadn't thought of that. That would definitely help. Unfortunately I don't digest beans or lentils well. I'm avoiding them currently and hoping once my intestines heal I will be able to eat them. I don't eat much meat and tend to prefer vegetarian meals but hard to do without beans. -
I'm having trouble figuring out how to manage a gluten free diet when I can't eat at home. It really just makes me want to stay at home as it is much easier and I can prepare better tasting meals. So for example some friends invited me to join them as they visit another friend that lives out of town. They are meeting at her house then going to lunch, will...

Can the person who makes the amazing spring rolls post their recipe? I'm still struggling to find enough recipes to get variety in my diet. I'm not so ticked off anymore. I was very upset the day it happened. And I mean UPSET. I was seriously crying off and on all day and was mad too. Kind of surprised me to feel like that. But emotions are not...

Thank you for your response! I was beginning to think everyone is against me. I'm not a bad person, but this situation has made me upset whether it should or not. It is times like these that I find this disease difficult to deal with. The thought of eating peanut butter and rice cakes while everyone else eats pizza is depressing to me. I'm sure I'll...

What do other celiacs do? I read at restaurants you are supposed to ask the questions I asked. I thought I was doing what I was supposed to do.

I don't know how sensitive I am to CC, I'm only less than 2 months into the gluten-free diet. I'm just trying to do what I thought all celiacs were supposed to do (avoid gluten and possible CC). Why is considered such a great thing if someone gives a little effort but the end result is the same? Doesn't anyone else feel we've been conditioned to not expect...

My brother has yet to be tested for celiac so he might have it. I believe in karma, so who knows.

I'm actually taking the train and will be arriving early in the morning. I'll be taking the bus and other trains to get around. So I really think only cold food is going to be an option (and probably the same thing I'm bring to eat for lunch). I'm bring some thai kitchen rice noodle carts which I just need to add water and can microwave. That's not going...

My brother is getting married for the 2nd time in a couple of weeks. They are planning an informal dinner after the wedding rehearsal for family (parents, siblings, and my brother's daughter). His fiancee contacted me asking me to choose between 3 restaurants that had a gluten free option as she wanted to make sure I could eat something. I told them I...

ARCHIVED Is Eating Pizza At A Restaurant Safe?
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for the tip on glutenfreeregistry.com, didn't know that existed. I see they have 1 of the 3 places I was evaluating (Lou Malnati's). The reviews don't sound great. It is a crustless pizza and when I contacted them they told me they use the same pans as the regular pizza but make sure to wash them good so there is not an issue with cross contamination...
