  1. Unfortunately I can not remember where I read this. Interesting to hear about the inulin connection. I ate something twice this week that was high in inulin and have been having digestive issues ever since.
  2. I read that they have found higher than normal amounts of the bifidobacteria in people with celiac. So some believe that this bacteria actually causes problems and if you want to supplement with a probiotic the only kind you want to have in there is the acidophilus. After reading this I stopped taking a probiotic at all. This combined with the SCD (minus...
  3. I seem to have become quite sensitive too (or I may not have noticed how sensitive I was until I was diagnosed with celiac). I have trouble with a lot of different foods and I think spicy stuff causes me problems as well. I've heard all the damage in your system is what causes the sensitivity. So I try to eat foods that are very easy to digest. But annoyingly...
  4. Get tested. If you don't you may regret it later. I have celiac and am having trouble healing from it. I don't know that I would have stuck with being gluten free forever if I didn't have the diagnosis
  5. Did they ever test you for celiac disease?
  6. I have celiac disease and have found I get dizzy from time to time (didn't notice this before going gluten free). I also am suspicious of my thyroid (various problems are pointing to an imbalance). I also have low blood pressure. Not sure if all of these things are because of the gluten free diet. I've restricted my diet to do SCD so could be related...
  7. I'm sorry you've gone through all of this. I don't know if your treatment could mask the illness, but if you find thyat going gluten free is helping you then it seems reasonable to continue. Good luck!
  8. My periods were happening every 3 weeks for awhile for me. I was really thin and stressed so wonder if that was the issue. Now they are back to every 28 days but have gotten a lot heavier. I've heard there are different things that can cause that. Did you have your doctor test your hormones? That could help rule out an imbalance if that might be the...
  9. My situation is a little different but I've gotten similar responses from my GI doc. My TTG IGA did not go up after being gluten free but after 6 months on a strict gluten-free diet it was still positive (it went from 125 at diagnosis to 30). My doc had told me he expected I would test negative after 6 months. He claimed the test didn't necessarily mean...
  10. It is possible but I'm not sure how likely. I always tell people to make sure they are eating gluten when they have the test otherwise they risk possibly testing negative when they are positive. If you would have tested positive I would guess that you might be a low positive (not trying to diminish a low positive all positive tests are bad). I say that...
  11. Good to hear Rosetapper23. I've been gluten free for a little over a year and have been frustrated that going gluten free has not resolved everything. I don't have D anymore but I still have issues with loose stools. My GI doc said this should not be happening anymore. I've started doing the specific carbohydrate diet with some success although I sometimes...
  12. I don't do soy or any grains (these are restricted on the specific carbohydrate diet). I do very little dairy (only hard cheeses currently). The diet seems to be helping me. It is just hard to stay on due to the little variety that I am getting currently. I have tried probiotics and glutamine and neither seemed to help me unfortunately.
  13. Have you thought about trying the specific carbohydrate diet? It is recommended for celiac, crohns, and ulcerative colitis. It is very restrictive but I wonder if it might help. There is lots of info on this board and the intranet on it if you are interested. I'm doing it now and it seems to be helping with problems being gluten free is not clearing up...
  14. Hey Rosetapper23 - did you have to eliminate any other food to feel better or just doing gluten free for 18 months was what was needed?
  15. Everyone is different as far as how fast they heal and start feeling better. It seems that those that have less damage to their system (are in the earlier stages of the disease) heal the fastest and those that have the most damage take the longest to heal. You'll need to be patient which is difficult, I know! I have a lot of damage to my system and am...
  16. Carolynmay, how wonderful it is to hear how well and quickly you have healed on SCD!! It gives me hope. I'd read medical journal articles showing the closer you are to complete villous atrophy the less you tended to heal. My initial biopsy showed subtotal villous atrophy (Marsh stage 3B). My biggest concern is healing the intestines. I figure if you...
  17. Carolynmay - I meant to ask, did you have another endoscoopy after doing SCD or how do you know the villi are better? Just curious. I hope my villi are healing on the diet.
  18. Wow Carolynmay. Your experience sounds very similar to me. I had a very similar experience with SCD also have realized I have a nickel allergy (figured out that's why my watch was giving me a rash). I didn't realize nickel was in those food you mentioned. Maybe that's why I have problems with them. I also am/was a carboholic. That's what I found...
  19. Good to hear love2travel! Do you know when they checked your B12 did she also request you get your homocystein checked? I understand that should be requested with a B12 check, but when I asked my doc for a B12 test she didn't know to ask for this.
  20. Good idea Marilyn R! This reminds me I have a voodoo doll. Sounds like that could work too.
  21. Some people don't get and some people don't want to get it either. It is annoying I know. I feel like I'm being judged constantly about what I do and do not eat. I love the blank looks people give me when they ask about my diet and I then explain it to them.
  22. For those that have been to see a dietician for celiac, I'm curious what your experience was like. Was that person helpful besides telling you what food does not contain gluten (I know that much). I'm curious if they can help suggest alternate foods to eat when you have intolerances. Perhaps help you figure out what those intolerances are without doing...
  23. You might want to check out the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet). It really is an elimination diet of sorts that starts with only a few easily digested foods and allows you to try others. There's lots of info online about that and a book written about it.
  24. Any other recommendations (or people to stay away from) that have went to University of Chicago for treatment? I was hoping for a few more responses. Thanks!
  25. It is ok. It is not the best filming and they use the same positions in many of the different sequences. I think I bought it on Amazon if I remember correctly.
