  1. This is a HUGE deal. Don't do it!!! Even if you don't have symptoms your internal organs get damaged whenever you consume gluten. It is difficult to start this diet but it becomes easier with time.
  2. I hope not! I use candles and incense from time to time. But I'm not healing very well either. Never thought that could be a concern.
  3. Have you had a celiac test? If not I'd suggest you get one. I didn't really think I had the disease as I only had some symptoms that kind of aligned with celiac (or so I thought). In retrospect I've probably had it my whole life and only got diagnosed at age 37. I have a lot of damage. Celiac can be hard to tell and doesn't have to have any symptoms...
  4. I'm sorry to hear this pricklypear. That sounds awful! I wish we could all just get better and stop suffering. Unfortunately, I don't have any words of wisdom. But, I feel for you. Hang in there!
  5. That doctor sounds awful! I know how hard it is to find a good one. Mine isn't that bad, but in some ways not much better. I was diagnosed as celiac and with the biopsy they found a lot of damage and they already knew I had osteopenia (found that before the celiac), but when I asked about being tested for additional vitamin deficiencies he told me I didn...
  6. I certainly understand the anxiety over symptoms, I have it too. I would really suggest looking at the SCD if you haven't already and see if it makes sense for you. Just trying the intro diet you may find things are better. A lot of the foods you mentioned eating SCD says are difficult to digest if you have digestive problems. There's lots of info online...
  7. I've been on the gluten-free diet for 14 months and still have issues. From what I've read a lot of people have food intolerances that can mimic symptoms that gluten would cause. Apparently there are tests for other foods you can react to. You might also want to look into the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD). I've been doing that for awhile and it helps...
  8. Juliebove, what do they tell you to do about gastroparesis? I wonder if I have that. As the vitamin I keep seeing will squash out white powder once it has gone through my digestive system, I don't think I'm absorbing what I'm supposed to. Maybe the coating on this one is extra difficult to digest for some reason. I hope it is not all vitamins that are...
  9. I see undigested vegetables. I've mentioned this to my doctor before and he told me it was normal to see pieces of vegetables. He hasn't been very helpful. I wouldn't be surprised if something else is going on. I did ask the doc about that but he said he was sure all my issues were celiac related. Blah, may need a better doctor.
  10. I tried taking a liquid multi-vitamin but realized it did not contain a lot of the vitamins that most multis do (was missing things like iron and iodine amongst other things). I am worried about having low thyroid and have heard not getting enough iodine can make this worse. I haven't found an iodine supplement that is recommended. So I went back to a...
  11. I take a lot of vitamins and I noticed recently that some of them are going completely through my body without being digested. I'm trying to figure out what to do about this. I'd heard hard tablets can do this but I think it is some of the capsules I'm taking as I took some toilet paper and pressed it against it and white powder came out (sorry this is...
  12. I'm not sure which of the blood tests they gave her exactly, but sounds like she has only been gluten free for a few months. It can take awhile to have a normal blood test especially if she had a very high one to start with (which sounds like she did). For example, my first ttg IGA was 125. The second one after almost 7 months was 33 (still positive but...
  13. A co-worker brought in this new malt flavored Mountain Dew. I assume that has gluten with the malt. I wonder why people's tolerance for alcohol changes (mine did too). I've kind of been wondering if it is affects on the liver.
  14. I've been gluten free for 13 1/2 months and still have a lot of problems. Doctors have not been helpful so trying to figure out on my own what else to do which is frustrating. They say a lot of people who continue to have problems is due to other food intolerances. I started following the SCD diet which I think has helped but having trouble sticking with...
  15. My hair is a reddish brown.
  16. I have following the SCD diet which is helping but not addressing everything. And ok, I have to admit I've been eating stuff on that diet I shouldn't (like chocolate). I've been wondering about thyroid. And I think I have issues digesting sugar anyway so should probably avoid it regardless if I'm diabetic or not. I feel like I'm at a turning point and...
  17. I wonder if I do need them though. I discovered recently that I am passing supplements through my body without them breaking down at all. I take a lot of supplements and some I take as liquid caps but I can't find all vitamins this way. Anyway I take this as a sign (as well as the fact that I have a lot of food intolerances) as a sign that perhaps digestive...
  18. I stopped taking the digestive enzymes as I ran out but I'm thinking of trying again using a different brand. I do think I have issues with food intolerances and have been doing SCD which has helped but I'm so limited on that diet I'd like to try enzymes again and see if they help me so I can eat a wider variety of food.
  19. Thought I'd check back on this. Anyone have any success with digestive enzymes?
  20. Several months ago my GI doc gave me a couple months worth of samples for prescription strength digestive enzymes to try to see if they helped. I tried them for about 2 months but didn't see any difference. I'm wondering if perhaps I should try them again and for a longer period of time and maybe they would help. For those of you who use them and have...
  21. I have celiac disease and have found that just going gluten free has not resolved my symptoms. Actually little changed. I started reading on here about the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD) which explains how to go about eliminating some of these other foods that can often cause problems for awhile. There is a lot of info on this forum and on the intranet...
  22. It is helpful for those with celiac if they live in a gluten free household (then you don't have to worry ab out cross-contamination at home). Also if everyone eats the same food it decreases the amount of food preparation needed.
  23. I've been gluten free for over 13 months after being diagnosed with celiac disease. I have a lot of damage in my system and may have had celiac most of my life (I'm 38 now). I'm continuing to have issues even though I'm grain free and take a lot of vitamins. I'm curious what diseases others were diagnosed with AFTER their celiac diagnosis. I think I have...
  24. I feel for you. I am diagnosed with celiac disease and have a lot of damage in my system. I've found that I also have a lot of food intolerances and have not healed by just being gluten free (I've been gluten free over 13 months now). Based on advice from this forum I did try specific carbohydrate diet and have been doing that for several months now. ...
