ARCHIVED Is Eating Pizza At A Restaurant Safe?
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
They suggested Pie Hole, Lou Malnati's, and Rocco Ranalli's. Any feedback on these places would be great. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Is Eating Pizza At A Restaurant Safe?
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hadn't thought to ask about separate toppings. Just asked about a separate preparation area and dedicated equipment. -
I'm going to visit family in Chicago and they told me they want to go out for pizza. They've suggested 3 places that offer gluten free pizza (in addition to the regular pizza they make). They've asked me to select the one I'm most comfortable. So I contacted the 3 restaurants to find out their pizza making practices and 2 emailed me back. One seemed extremely...

ARCHIVED Anyone Find Out Something Else Was Wrong, Too?
Newbee replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Has anyone read this article that notes that people with celiac disease are not healing all the way even after years to recover? The last time I saw my doctor I printed him a copy of this as I mentioned it during our first appointment and he had no idea what I'm talking about. He looked it over and focused on the part that mentions maybe further endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Find Out Something Else Was Wrong, Too?
Newbee replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for sharing your experience with this. It is helpful. I'm glad your bloodwork is normal, too bad you are not feeling better. I hope things improve for you soon! I've heard so many people say they felt better within days or weeks of stopping gluten that I thought that was the norm. I think I'm going to ask family to stop asking me if I'm feeling... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Find Out Something Else Was Wrong, Too?
Newbee replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, 2-5 years?! Is that for your blood tests to come back normal? I think that's how my doc is defining 'healed'. So besides feeling bad lately, have you been able to tell much difference in the 6 months of being gluten free? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Find Out Something Else Was Wrong, Too?
Newbee replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I suspect I've had celiac most of my life and I've only gotten diagnosed now at age 37. My doctor seems to think I should be completely healed in 6 months. I'm not so sure about that. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and told him I wasn't feeling better yet but that didn't seem to affect his oppinion. I guess I'm afraid I'm not doing enough, either... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Find Out Something Else Was Wrong, Too?
Newbee replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm interested in this topic too. Maybe I'm too impatient but I'm on week 6 of being gluten free and I don't feel better yet. So wondering if there might something else that may be making my symptoms continue. -
ARCHIVED Coated Tongue A Symptome?
Newbee replied to Yohaa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you think there is any possibility that you have celiac disease you should be tested. They say only 3% of the people who have the disease are actually diagnosed. My symptoms were rather minor and doctors told me I had IBS but never tested me for anything until I finally asked for the celiac blood test because I was trying to rule it out (from what I... -
ARCHIVED What Good Things Have Happened To You Since Being Gluten Free
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm on week 5 of being gluten free. I don't have to go to the bathroom as much but still don't have normal stools. Earlier this week I was having stomach cramps in the evening. I don't think I glutened myself as I've been eating the same stuff and hadn't had symptoms before. I hope my brain comes back too. -
ARCHIVED What Good Things Have Happened To You Since Being Gluten Free
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was curious if anyone had any new items to add to the list. Trying to stay positive about this disease! -
I've heard some people gain weight after being on a gluten free diet and others lose weight. From what I've heard it sounds like people change so that they are more average instead of extreme in their weight. So if you are underweight there is a good chance that being gluten free will help you gain weight. Good luck!

ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I've Been Glutened And What Is Causing It?
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for everyone's responses! Sounds like it really varies as far as when people start feeling better. I'll try and eat more natural and be patient and hopefully it will all start getting better soon. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiencies And Celiac
Newbee replied to samuella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My vitamin D level is low as well. I'm waiting to see the doctor for the next appointment but not sure he's even going to want to talk about vitamins. Can you tell me how much D you are taking? I'm just trying to take a lot but not sure how much I should really be consuming. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I've Been Glutened And What Is Causing It?
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for your response. How long should it take before I should notice a difference? I probably should mention it looks like I've had this a long time (37 years) and my doctor mentioned it would take longer for me to heal because of it. He didn't say how long before I should notice a difference. -
ARCHIVED Bone Density Scan Results...
Newbee replied to love2travel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I won't have another bone scan until next year. Last year I had an early dexa scan (I was 35) and was surprised to find I had osteopenia (almost to osteoporosis levels). It was what made me ask for a celiac disease blood test. I'd heard celiac can cause that. Unfortunately it can I've heard people's bone density can go up 15 or 18 % in the first year... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I've Been Glutened And What Is Causing It?
Newbee posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been on the gluten free a week and I'm wondering if I'm doing it right or if maybe I'm eating things that have been cross contaminated. Should I be able to see changes in how much I poo yet? I'm still going about 3 times a day like I did before. And if I am getting cross contaminated how can I tell what is doing it? Like if I have to go to the bathroom... -
ARCHIVED Bone Density Scan Results...
Newbee replied to love2travel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's great! Did you have osteoperosis or osteopenia or was this your first scan? I have osteopenia and am hoping I can reverse it with gluten free diet, exercise, and vitamins. -
ARCHIVED Decades Of Suffering From Celiac And Finally Diagnosed - Will I Really Heal?
Newbee posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had my biopsy this week and the doctor said he could see the destruction in the intestines so diagnosed it as classic celiac. Look like I've had this my entire life as there have been symptoms all along (even when I was a baby). I'm 37 and I've heard the longer you've had it the longer it will take to heal. I've also read some of the newer medical journal... -
ARCHIVED Confused Reading Labels
Newbee posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As a newly diagnosed celiac I'm a little confused on what all I should be avoiding when reading ingredients for food. I know if it says it has any wheat, barley, etc. I should not have it. But what about if a product says it is made in a plant that also processes wheat. Should I avoid it? Or what about labels that say the product has been produced on... -
Looks like I've had celiac my whole life (I'm 37) and just getting diagnosed now because I asked to be tested for it. I've never slept well. I'm soooooooo looking forward to when I heal and hopefully can sleep well!!

ARCHIVED Baker's Corner (Aldi's) Maraschino Cherries
Newbee posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted Aldi to find out if the maraschino cherries they sell contain gluten. They forwarded my question onto their supplier who contacted me and said they do not contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED What Good Things Have Happened To You Since Being Gluten Free
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really appreciate everyone taking the time to give thoughtful responses. These are wonderful! It is odd to me to hear things associated with celiac that I never would have thought of (like being thirsty and having cracked lips or having calluses on your feet). I too have always had trouble with walking into the person I'm next to. I never associated... -
ARCHIVED What Good Things Have Happened To You Since Being Gluten Free
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you regained your life again. That's wonderful!! I've thought about going back to school also as I'm unhappy with my current career. But I've often wondered if I'd be able to make it through and pass classes as I can't remember anything any more. Has anyone noticed what they would consider not typical symptoms resolve? -
ARCHIVED What Good Things Have Happened To You Since Being Gluten Free
Newbee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
These are great things to hear have resolved! Thanks for posting!! I also have had issues with carpal tunnel syndrome the last few years. I thought it was because I work with a computer. I'm glad I didn't get the surgery as it seems my symptoms would probably have remained. I have osteopenia (was diagnosed at 35). I've heard once you are gluten free...
