ARCHIVED Wow - gluten-free Really Makes A Difference!
AMom2010 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to say I am actually surprised at the results I've seen after being gluten-free for almost 2 weeks. I had a negative celiac panel, but was still convinced gluten was the culprit after reading so many of the topics on this forum and getting feedback from so many smarties on this board. I started my gluten-free diet, but was eating non gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Negative Bloods - Miserable And Don't Know What To Do
AMom2010 replied to Sika's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I too, got the news my celiac panel was negative last Wed. and was incredibly disappointed. I started gluten-free diet on Thursday, and don't even miss it. It is incredibly easy for me to say "no" to gluten because I want to get better. My Dr. also tested my B12 and Vit. D levels. I find it more than a little interesting that my Vit. D was... -
I decided to go ahead a give the gluten-free diet a shot even though my blood work was negative. So this is my 2nd day gluten-free and painful stomach bloating started last night. what the heck!?! I haven't introduced anything new, just cut out gluten (i didn't really eat that much of it to begin with). I also have a headache, but I did drink iced tea...

ARCHIVED Mri Abnormalities

UPDATE: The nurse called today with my results and the celiac panel was negative, everything was in the normal range... I am really kind of bummed out, I was just positive that it would be positive and that I would go gluten free and see my symptoms improve. It would sure beat the heck of an MS diagnosis. I talked with my husband about it and I... -
Ya'll are too funny! I guess I will just have to take it one day at a time and celebrate small everyday victories rather than constantly reminding myself I can NEVER eat ____ again. I really enjoy cake decorating as a hobby, so at least I will be able to make great looking gluten-free cakes/cupcakes for my daughter to take to birthday parties. Have...

I am so worried. My daughter just had what I think is a breath holding spell (I received an email from babycenter a couple of months ago about them). She was frustrated because her dad was preventing her from climbing up on the coffee table, started crying, wouldn't breath and turned blue (fast!) He had to pick her up, turn her over and slap her on the...

OK, it just dawned on me that if my celiac panel comes back positive I can't EVER have a warm, chewy roll just out of the oven, a slice of bread, donut, or ooey, gooey cinnamon roll again. Wow. I know they can all be made gluten free, but they won't be they way I remember. I have a question for those of you who were diagnosed as very young children...

ARCHIVED Weight And Height In Kids
AMom2010 replied to Mummyto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She has already had the celiac panel done and it was negative. Her GI told me to get tested and I have an appt. tomorrow with my GP and I'm going to have him test my blood. Her GI said she would most likely do a biopsy/scope/colonoscopy in 2 months if her symptoms (chronic D) have not improved. I am really hoping my bw is positive, so I won't feel as guily... -
ARCHIVED Weight And Height In Kids
AMom2010 replied to Mummyto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 14 mo. old is in the 97th percentile for height and in the 40th for weight, she is very tall and skinny for her age, "long and lean" as her ped. said at her 12 mo. check up. She has the pot belly too, and her legs and arms are slim. Her ped doesn't think she could possibly have celiac, but the GI we were referred to does not think it is out of the question... -
My 14 month old and I are in the prediagnostic phase, trying to figure out what's going on. Her symptoms only began a little over a month ago. She too has D filled with indigested food (mostly fruit). The pedi GI took one look at her diaper rash and thought it looked liked her stool was acidic and is burning her. DD's rash started about a month after...

One more question for all of you (you are so smart)!! Who gives you a diagnosis of gluten ataxia, a neurologist or GI? How exactly is GA diagnosed if bloodwork is negative? My neuro wanted to follow up with me in Feb, but I never made an appt because nothing had really changed. He also wanted to do another MRI in a year to see if the damage was progressing... -
ARCHIVED Snack Ideas
AMom2010 replied to suziq0805's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 14 mo old LOVES welches fruit snacks, I'm pretty sure they would fit your criteria. They are pretty soft and easy for her to chew (supervised). -

AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, Rolling Along, I did see that study and it is what made me look into celiac disease as a cause for my symptoms. I came accross this site while looking for answers for my daughter's steatorrhea. She's 14 months old and had D for a month. I am seriously going to get a plastic shower curtain to put under her crib, it's that bad. Once I began reading... -

I forgot to add that I have defective tooth enamal, brain fog (oh my gosh it's bad), crazy bad itchy breakouts all over my body (they aren't blisters though), and keratosis plaris. I am also 20 lbs overweight, no matter what I do I can't loose the extra weight. I have twice lost the weight, but it was during my chronic D years... I am beginning to... -

Thank you all so much for the wonderful, knowledgable advice! I have other GI symptoms too. These days it's more constipation, with only occassioanl D. In college I suffered tremenduosly with D regularly until I was at least 25. It was always worse after eating a fatty meal. The last time I had a dish made with cream was at a fancy steakhouse 3 years... -

I am having the celiac panel done later this week, I am really hoping celiac disease is the answer. I was previously evaluated by a neurologist last fall (both my mother and aunt have MS). I had him send me the medical records and his diagnoses upon the intial evaluation were 1) incontinence 2) paresthesia 3) ataxia After my MRI, lumbar puncture (which... -
ARCHIVED Remission During Pregnancy?
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes the GI we saw did mention the bloodwork is basically useless. She's already been tested and the celiac panel was negative. Dr. said if her symptoms haven't improved in 2 to 3 months she would was do perform and endoscopy and colonoscopy. In the meantime, she wanted me to get tested. I really really liked her, (we live in North Texas) and I'm confident... -

ARCHIVED Remission During Pregnancy?
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the replies! I am really looking forward to finding out if celiac disease the casue for our symptoms, I think it would be such a blessing to have my almost 14 month old diagnosed this early so she could avoid years of misery... -
Does anyone know if untreated celiac goes into remission during pregnancy? I have heard other autoimmune diseases do. When I was pregnant 2 years ago I felt GREAT and didn't need a nap, which was really surprising because normally I need a 2-3 hour nap just to make it thru the day. In fact, I just quit breastfeeding 6 weeks ago and now I am so incredibly...

ARCHIVED 13 Month Old Being Tested
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Today we had an appt with the pedi GI and she mentioned celiac before I could even get it out of my mouth! I am so, so, so happy we were referred to someone whose celiac IQ is so high She recommended that I get tested asap as the DD's bloodwork is most likely unreliable due to her age. She also mentioned a reaction to carbohydrates (inc. fruit, which... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing - 23 And Me
AMom2010 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has anyone used 23 and Me to find out if they carry the celiac genes? Do they give you detailed information about specific genes or just tell you that you are at increased risk for x, y, and z. My Aunt is doing it, she has MS and is really interested in geneolgy. No one in my family is diagnosed with celiac, but my daughter is currently being tested. ... -
ARCHIVED Elevated Alkaline Phophatase
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The Dr. did test the ALP again, we are still waiting on results. In addition he is testing GGT, calcium, and vitamin d. Her liver ultrasound was normal, thank goodness. My neice (sister's daughter) is having some similar symptoms as my daughter and her ALP was 3200 (everything else was normal). This is all very interesting and further making me feel Celic... -
ARCHIVED 13 Month Old Being Tested
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Her liver ultrasound came back normal, thank God! Still waiting on the bloodwork... She started running a fever Friday afternoon, then had 2 "febrile seizures" Friday night. Scariest moment ever!! Took her to the children's hospital afterward and they couldn't find a reason for her fever, said the seizures were caused by a sudden fever spike and... -
ARCHIVED 13 Month Old Being Tested
AMom2010 replied to AMom2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We had the ultrasound and more bloodwork this morning. I really hope we get some answers, she hates having a needle stuck in her arm. Today was the 3rd time in a week and a half she has had her blood drawn. She starts to cry as soon as we sit down in that blue chair... Hopefully she won't have to go thru too much more of this. I am thinking of trying...
