  1. Hello there! I'm not from Northern Ireland, but do have ancestory from there and would some day really enjoy going there (my last name is Magee). Now, I am pretty new to this as well and am figuring things out as I go. This forum is a good place to be to talk to people about this. I don't think that all people have the similar reactions, but probably...
  2. For $10-1000K? I could possibly stand the (at least) day and a half of seizures. Then the couple of days of recovery would be pushing it. For $150? No! I'm not trying to bragg or boast about anything, but I make $150 in four hours at work and hopefully even less time after my annual review. So,,, $10-100K, maybe. $150,,,,,,, no, not worth my time. ...
  3. I don't have celiac, but am gluten sensitive. I din't find this out until my mid thirties. The way I found out was due to developing epilepsy and following a suggestion to check into gluten sensitivity. So I guess that answer from me is, yes. I believe that gluten can cause damage. To what extent to the individual, I am not sure. I nor anyone in my...
  4. I don't have panic attacks, but do have seizures due to gluten. I am not celiac, but was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity. I know now that when I have ingested gluten there will be a series of seizures to come. This is one big way to insure that I stay gluten free, I wouldn't want to have a seizure while driving . My whole issue in due to a condition...
  5. My mother made some homemade a couple of months ago. I was surprised, it was very delicious. I still don't remember what she used to make it since it really never came up again. Maybe I'll see if she even remembers. Later, Ray
  6. They must have had the problem taking the order. My family and I just recently went to a Red Robin (and this was the first time I'd gone to one in a year and a half)and I too asked for a gluten free menu. The menu was a different color so when the waitress arrived she instantly said said, "Oh, you have a food allergy.". I ordered and my burger came out...
  7. Soy sauce was one of the first things that my wife pointed out for me,, and I LOVE soy sauce with my asian food. I didn't believe her and read the ingredients, as I'm sure you already know, it has wheat! We found the gluten free soy sauce and I take it with us when we go to a sushi place or any other asian resaurant (Vietnamese is one of our favorites)...
  8. I like to go to Chipotle as often as I can (which really isn't too often). I tried Five Guys, but didn't think much of it. I like In-N-Out so much better, they at least can do a (Protein style) lettuce wrap, Five Guys gave me shredded lettuce . They only fry potatoes as well. I will brave McDs and Carls' Jr. with my kids. Carls Jr. does show gluten...
  9. I like restaurants that do try and accomodate as well as they can. They tell you that they cannot garantee that the products are completely gluten free. I recently went to a japanese steak house and asked if they had a gluten free menu. They did not, but one of the cooks was right there and said that they did have gluten free soy sauce and that they could...
  10. My reaction comes on usually within about an hour after consuming a gluten product or cc'd product. I will start having minor siezures afterward and they will continue for a few hours. I am epileptic and had found out that part of my diagnosis has been directly related to gluten sensetivitity. I had even gone in for corrective brain surgery, but the siezures...
  11. When I had my test and then went to see my Dr. for the results, he told me that it came back 50/50. He then asked me if I had started trying a gluten free diet before my testing. I couldn't remember and he told me that could have caused my results to come out that way. I then went in for an Endo. The office that did the procedure told me that I did not...
  12. I have one at home! My wife bought it for my birthday. I think that I am the only coffee drinker in my office and I only buy the Starbucks VIA instants. Keeps me pretty isolated I guess. Later, Ray
  13. I agree with you on that. As I said, I only have these things once in a while. The oatmeal is for the kids mostly. Usually I eat after I have taken the kids to school and get a Jamba Juice (of wich I read the ingredients of in the available book) or some eggs and bacon. I stay away from sausage. Carolinakip & love2travel, you have to go to Starbucks...
  14. Well as stupid as it sounds, so far so good and Like I've said on other posts, I know when it is something I should not be eating since I will have multiple siezures if I am contaminated with gluten (I think I mentioned that I stole one pepperoni off my son and daughter's cold pizza after they went to sleep and paid the price the following day with multiple...
  15. I never thought about it, but I think they are supposed to have an ingredient list. At all the fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Jack in the Box etc.) they have a big board up on the wall. I think this is also for health people looking into their caloric intake. It's funny, but I am like a local at one or two of the Starbucks here in Temecula and also one...
  16. If I remember correctly, they have seperate pots for the gluten free pasta. The last time I went in, the waitress acidentally brought my salad with croutons. When she realized it, she took the plate away to replace it. They were very helpful. No siezures after we ate there, so I figured it was okay, or as one of our family friends has made up. It's ...
  17. It's not an easy thing. I have a lot of support from famiy and friends. When I go to a family party (it's funny) my cousins always buy those hard cider drinks so that I can have a drink with them instead of beer, plus I have found the gluten free beers available to me. Sometimes I wonder, if we had known about the gluten sensitivity way back when I was...
  18. So along with some other places I go to is the Old Spaghetti Factory. My family and I went there for a birthday party and I was planning on getting a salad with no croutons. Looking at the menu, I saw that they now had gluten free noodles!!! Now I had to try it and I tell you it was great. I was also told that all their sauces were gluten free. Now...
  19. In-N-Out is deffinitely the place to go. Like is said, the only thing they fry is potatos. They have this crazy contraption that they put the peeled potatos in and push it through to make the fries. Burgers, fries and drinks , it's great food. The buns are even toasted in a seperate place.
  20. Quick response to this. I have much less siezure activity . Makes me less moody and as stated by others, have a clearer head. Later, Ray
  21. Better to safe than sorry. My first tests were 50/50. My doctor asked if I had already gone gluten free before my blood tests and I said I thought I had (my memory isn't always very good and I blame the epilepsy). I did an endoscopy and it said that I was sensitive, not celiac. Good enough for me. The crazy thing for me is to realize that I have become...
  22. I understand how you feel about the UK foods. I took my family there for a vacation one time. This was before I was diagnosed with epilepsy and subsequently gluten sensitivity. I am lucky as far as fast food goes. Here in southern California and pretty much all of California is In-N-Out Burgers. The only thing fried are fresh cut potatos. I get the...
  23. Thank you, The funny thing is that while growing up and possibly like others. Wheat was the healthy food to eat. With hypocampal Sclerosis, this builds up over time (like a ticking time bomb I guess)and culminates with siezures (epilepsy). The median age associated with it is in the mid early to mid thirties. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was...
  24. Hello, I'm new here and not celiac, just gluten sensitive.I've been going gluten free for about a year now and unfortunately find out the hard way if I have strayed or accidently eaten something with gluten in it. I have siezures usually within about 1.5 to 2 hours after. Not good if I'm driving. I do always read labels and warnings. My wife helps...
  25. Hi all, My name is Ray and I thought I'd check this site out. Now I'm not a celiac, but was diagnosed as being gluten sensitive, I am also epileptic. While talking to friends on epilepsyfoundation.org, it was suggested by someone (who is now somewhat of a friend) to check into gluten sensitivity. As I studied, this is linked to the diagnosis I received...
