  1. I'm pretty sure mine wasn't DH though because it never progressed to anything worse. I'd just get a few red spots on my legs and then they would gradually heal and disappear, followed by more of course. I just found it interesting that gluten-free seems to have cleared them and I never really attributed them to something in my diet (before going gluten-free...
  2. This has probably been asked a million times already but... I used to get small, pinpoint, raised red spot on my thighs and inner knees (mainly, but I sometimes found them on my arms or lower legs). Once in awhile they itched, but I usually couldn't feel them at all. I've been gluten-free for about 7 weeks now and around week 3 or 4 I noticed that I was...
  3. My primary care doctor actually did test me (negative), but when I eventually wound up at a GI specialist's office for ongoing issues he actually advised me not to go gluten-free because I tested negtative, even though I explained that it lessened my IBS symptoms. That baffled me, and then he wanted to prescribe me antidepressants (which do actually work...
  4. I have chronic sleep-maintenance insomnia and I've been gluten-free for a little over a month now. After the first week I did notice that my insomnia (which is "normal" for me) suddenly got worse, which I think must have been related to going gluten-free. I had other gluten withdrawal symptoms as well like vertigo/ataxia and abdominal pains, which were different...
  5. Thanks. A trial of the diet is kind of what I figured would be the most accurate(and what you alluded to in another thread). Just wanted to check and see if there was something I was missing re: the genetic test. I've been losing faith in a lot of lab tests as of late... I guess a diagnosis of IBS will do that to a person.
  6. The blood test (or buccal swabs I think can also be used) that look for HLA DQ2 and DQ8 are often used to test for celiac disease, yes? I think it is an accurate way to determine one's risk for celiac, but not necessarily whether one actually has the disease? (is this correct?) Anyway, my GI doctor mentioned this test to me last year, but basically told...
  7. No, I don't know for sure if I had bloodwork done for IgA, but I don't recall seeing anything else that looked like an antibody test anywhere on my lab results. Will need to check again. Regardless, you're right, the best test is how I feel. I did just discover that the digestive enzymes that I take once in awhile have wheat in them though, but I still...
  8. Thanks. I actually feel better already from being gluten free for a month. Do you happen to know if the fecal antibody test is similar to the blood test in terms of accuracy? I think that's the only test I had done...
  9. Thanks a lot ravenwoodglass. That's helpful, especially since you were working with your doctor on the elimination.
  10. Thanks for the responses you guys. I was tested about two years ago when I originally went I went to my new (and current) doctor with GI complaints (chronic diarrhea, bloating, cramps, etc). She told me that I was negative for celiac and I was mailed some test results (I had many tests done for parasites, full blood chemistry, CBC, etc as well). The...
  11. Hello. I'm new and I'm trying to determine if I have a gluten sensitivity/intolerance/whatever since I've been having moderate GI issues for about 5 years now. I've been gluten-free for about a month now, and plan on going another month before I "challenge" myself. So far, so good I do feel better overall and many of my GI issues have been reduced dramatically...
  12. I'm entering my second gluten-free month and am seeing a clear reduction in the IBS symptoms I've been experiencing for the last five years. I was diagnosed with SIBO two years ago, and have been treated for that, but many of the GI issues remained. Going gluten-free has definitely helped me, not only with the GI stuff, but with other symptoms that I didn...
  13. Thanks. I did stop there and get a sandwich and a couple of other things for the track. Good thing too because I would have starved otherwise. I also ate lunch there on Friday... overall I thought the food was pretty good.
  14. This might be a longshot, but do you know if there are any gluten-free options actually at the track (like if any of the vendors on the backside by the paddock have gluten-free fare)? I'll be there this weekend and it would be helpful to know. Thanks also for the info about the bakery in Latham; will definitely stop there on the way to the races...
