  1. I had fainting attacks for years (before being diagnosed with Celiac) and then they stopped for quite a while. I was gluten free for a while then had restart gluten for some tests. When I started going back off the gluten, I had another attack and almost passed out twice. At the same time I had, not to be too graphic, an attack of explosive bloody diarrehea...
  2. I was craving some chocolate chip cookies Wednesday night so I made a batch of the Betty Crocker gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookies. I woke up the next morning and the area underneath my eye was swollen. I figured it was from something I ate. The only new items I had that day were the cookies and some Progresso gluten-free corn chowder. So last night...
  3. Check out holdthegluten.net. She also does a podcast that you can download from itunes for free. I drool every time I look at gluten free goddesses blog. Her recipes look wonderful. I haven't had time to try any yet, but plan to soon.

    ARCHIVED Gi Doctor In Memphis

I'm looking for a good GI doctor in Memphis who has some experience with Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. Anyone have a recommendation? I blood tested positive for Celiac in August through my general practitioner's office. She recommended me to a GI (Dr. Wooten at Gastro One) and he recommended that I have a colonoscopy, endoscopy and biopsies...
  5. Beautiful Curls - That's it! Thanks heatherjane. I didn't see any gluten ingredients on the label but it made me nervous when I saw the website. I will definitely try the other 2 types if they ever have them at Whole Foods again.
  6. I can understand why it's annoying that this has become a trendy thing. But from the opposite perspective, these people may just be searching for answers to why they don't feel well. I'll use myself as a case in point. For years I've had a series of minor health problems. They were never serious enough to seem like one big health issue to me and...
  7. I live in the south and down here we usually have 2 cakes at a wedding - the traditional white wedding cake and a groom's cake that is usually chocolate. Since you've already ordered the wedding cake with gluten, do you think you could get a gluten free groom's cake and use that to eat? That way you could still have your pretty wedding cake and wouldn't...
  8. Blistex is gluten free. I called the company to ask last week as I'm totally addicted to the stuff! I know some Burt's Bees stuff has gluten but their Lip Shimmer glosses do not. When I first got diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, I went to Whole Foods to try and buy Desert Essences shampoo and they were totally sold out. They clerk said they have a...
  9. Not yet. That's on the list when I go to visit the doctor next week. But I didn't think about it for hair loss, I was thinking for other reasons (metabolism, being cold all the time, etc.) Thanks for bringing it up. That will motivate me even more to make sure the doctor tests me.
  10. Does your son have an i-phone or i-pad? I've just been diagnosed and there are a few apps I use on my i-pad that help. One is "Is that Gluten Free." It has a grocery list of products by type and brand, as well as a place where you can look up specific ingredients. I also have "Is that Gluten Free Eating Out" and "IEatOut." The apps are fairly inexpensive...
  11. I'm staying away from gluten free shampoos/conditioners/styling products not because I'm afraid I'll eat some but because I'm worried that they're damaging my hair. I have extremely fine hair and as I've aged, I've started shedding a lot. I now have a very thin patch in the front where my scalp shows through. While guys can get away with shaving all their...
