  1. I do most of the grocery shopping and all the cooking in our house and I refuse to cook 2 separate meals, so hubby and son are stuck with gluten free dinners. Luckily my husband isn't too picky about what he eats. My son is 5 and he's much harder to please. But I don't really give him much of a choice. I do keep some gluten food in the house for them...
  2. How long have you been off the gluten? Could the cravings be part of your withdrawal? I read some where that gluten has opiate-like qualities to it, which is why people tend to crave items made from it as comfort food - like dinner rolls, macaroni & cheese. etc. I used to have horrible cravings but they are much better when I'm off the gluten. As...
  3. I guess I'm lucky because there are 4 of us who are gluten intolerant in our church, so our pastor has stocked gluten-free wafers for us. We only have communion once a month, so it's not like he has to do it every week. He tries to be pretty discreet about it so others in the church won't notice that we're getting different bread. But it doesn't really...
  4. I can't recommend a particular cookbook, but there are a ton of blogs with recipes on-line. Do a search for Gluten Free Goddess' blog. She's a chef and has posted tons of yummy looking recipes on line. There's a link here on the board someone put up recently about their favorite gluten-free blogs. Most of the gluten free blogs have lots of recipes. I...
  5. I can't help with the requestions regarding the tax break since I'm not in Canada, but I will say that there's a good possibly you can be gluten intolerant without having actual Celiac's Disease. Personally, I would go gluten free. There can be a lot of other symptoms you're experiencing that you don't even realize are related to the gluten. For me, when...
  6. I so totally agree with this. I also think what makes the diet successful are people who are willing to listen to more than just their doctors. People who are willing to be advocates for their own health and do their own research into causes for their problems. I have a friend with fibro who has all the classic signs of ataxia, has brain fog, has had...
  7. I had the endoscopy, colonoscopy and biopsies all done at the same time last month. The prep for the colonscopy was way worse than any of the procedures themselves. I was not a happy camper with no food in my stomach for 48 hours. No to mention the cleansing of the colon was not fun either. I felt great after I woke up from the procedures and good some...
  8. Could the marijuana be cross contaminated with gluten? For instance, if you're buying it from someone else (as opposed to growing your own), could they be growing it near a wheat field or could they be putting it on a counter where they prepare sandwiches or other things with gluten? Mind you, I'm not advocating that you grow your own, which may or...
  9. I feel your pain about the doctors who don't believe you. My last GI just dropped me. Luckily I have a great PCP who actually believes me. The problem is there are about 200 different symptoms related to Celiacs or Gluten Intolerance and that's part of the problem why doctors don't get it. Some people have a lot of GI problems, some it's more mental...
  10. Had to laugh at this. It's how we used to sneak liquor into football games in college. Just pile a bunch of tampons on top
  11. I asked my son's pediatrician if there would be any problem with him going gluten free. She said that other than the diet being hard to stick to and not get cc, it wouldn't be a problem for him at all and would have no impact on his growth. At this point I haven't put him on a gluten-free diet because I'm still working out my gluten-free diet issues and...
  12. For me the diarreha starts the next day and then I have two weeks of depression, irritabiliity, brain fog, fatigue and apathy.
  13. Thanks GlutenDude. That's a really good thought. I do probably need to step up the exercise. I've been doing my normal amount, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do more.
  14. Leper Messiah - I haven't told work yet. I've told just one coworker, but not even all of it to her. It's not that I'm trying to hide it from them, I just haven't had a good time to do it yet. Usually we meet once a week and I was going to do it then, but lately it's been so crazy that no one's had time to. Plus I find out the results from my Hashimoto...
  15. Sorry. I'm not in the medical field, so I probably did explain it wrong. My bacteria are immume to amoxicillin Unfortunately this was a while ago when I had a doctor who would prescribe antibiotics for almost anything and I didn't know better. Now I'm much more conservative about taking them. But the damage has already been done.
  16. Okay, for some reason that didn't work. Try this: Open Original Shared Link
  17. Open Original Shared Link This link might help.
  18. Thanks for the kind words Pondy. I'm going to get some B12 today. I've been trying to watch the diet but I think I'm going to have to be even stricter over the next couple of weeks, eliminating anything processed, dairy, soy, etc. I'm definitely going to work on getting some fresh air this weekend.
  19. Have you taken amoxicillin several times before? I ask because my body has built up an immunity to it. I had taken it many times for sinus infections and the last time I went through 2 rounds of it without any effect. I had to be switched to another drug. I saw a documentary on the problems with people becoming resistant to antibiotics and it said...
  20. Long story short, I glutened myself last Monday by accident and now I'm dealing with 2 weeks of side effects. For me the gi stuff is pretty easy. I get through it in a day or two. It's the brain fog, apathy, and fatigue that last for about two weeks. Anyone have any good ideas on supplements I can take or anything else I can do to help it go away faster...
  21. Thanks for the help everyone. I think I'm just going to steer clear of all grains, as well as corn and soy, for a while until my system calms down and then try adding back in gluten-free processed foods again. I've had 3 crazy, different reactions in the past month - 2 pretty severe ones. I guess my body still has some major healing to do.
  22. I've also had thinning hair problems and know how hard it can be to look in the mirror each day to see the damage. My hair dresser recommended taking biotin. When I first started taking it I didn't notice a difference, but after a few months and increasing my dosage, I noticed a big difference. My doctor also put me on prescription iron supplements...
  23. I think I'm reacting to rice flour, but not rice itself. For me it's more like an anaphylactic reaction. My eyes start swelling up. I posted this in another section of the boards, but I had a reaction to Betty Crocker gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. It happened twice. But I don't seem to have a problem with regular rice. I don't know why the flour...
  24. Sorry to hear about your problems. It is hard. I've only been doing this several months and I get tired of having to think before I put anything in my mouth. One thing that has been helping me cope is to continually remind myself that gluten = poison. So every time I look at a piece of cake or pizza, I mentally draw a big red circle with a slash across...
  25. I haven't had any problems with dairy in the past, but I do try to limit how much of it I eat because of my sinuses. I didn't have any of the soup on Thursday, so that's why I'm wondering if it might be the cookies. My body is definitely wonky right now, for sure. When I started going gluten free during the summer, it was easy and and I had no problems...
