  1. I forgot to add on my original post that I'm grateful for everyone on this board too. You all have been such a big help to me as I try to figure everything out. It's nice to know that whatever issue I'm having, there's someone here to lend an ear, provide advice, and give support.
  2. Like the rest of you guys, I'm having a hard time with the holidays coming up. There's lots of tempting gluteney food everywhere that I can't eat. And navigating the food at all the social events is like walking through a mine field. But in the interest of being a "glass is half full" kind of girl, I was thinking about things I actually liked about...
  3. Awwwwwkkkkkkkwwwwaaaaarrrrddd... And very insensitive on his part. This situation didn't turn out too awkward, but could have been. Last week I helped throw a baby shower for one of my coworkers. It was being held at my boss and his wife's home. He knows I have Celiac disease but probably didn't think to mention it to his wife. And I didn't tell...
  4. The time it takes varies by person. For me it takes 2 weeks to get everything out of my system. The depression, brain fog, and tiredness are what goes away last for me.
  5. I've had very good luck at Chick fil a. The two near my house have dedicated fryers. I usually get the grilled chicken salad with berry vinagrette dressing and a side order of their fries. I've heard mixed things about the fries at Wendy's so I stay away from them. I'll opt for a baked potato and side salad with vinagrette dressing. We were travelling...
  6. Paying twice as much for a box of gluten free bisquick that's 2/3 the size of a regular box. Worrying about what I'm going to eat at social event or if I can eat anything at all. Having to become a high-maintenance person when I go out to eat. I'm not that way at all. It's hard having to be particular about things.
  7. I drink lots and lots and lots of water. Plus I make sure to exercise to try and sweat things out of my system. Those are a couple of tricks I've learned from other people on this board.
  8. The Cocktail Hour...I love it. I've heard that keeping a good attitude during chemo can really help you fight the cancer. Sounds like you're already ahead on that score.
  9. I wanted to get tested because of my serious sinus problems. My GP said, "And of course because of your GI symptoms also. If I don't put down GI symptoms, insurance won't pay for it." I had some GI symptoms but they were minor, compared to the other things. But I suddenly developed some so that I could get tested.
  10. For my Memphis friends, Huey's is now serving a gluten-free burger. It's comes on a "lettuce bun." It's wonderful. Tastes just like a regular Huey Burger. Unfortunately their fries aren't cooked in a dedicated fryer, so they're off limits. But at least we can eat their burgers.
  11. I think I remember other people saying on here that Celiac is covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, which means they would have to make some accomodation for her. I think part of the problem is that she needs to speak up to the front line workers and explain to them how sick she'll get from the gluten. But I know it's not always realistic...
  12. Hey, I could use another kindred soul. Most days I need all the help I can get
  13. I was talking to someone in nursing school at our local medical college about a new building that was being constructed. It is being called the "Integrative Medicine Building." I asked her what that meant. She explained that researchers will come up with a better way of treating someone but there's a problem in that it takes 10 to 20 years for that method...
  14. My 5 year old is very attuned to me eating gluten free. Only he doesn't really understand what it means. So he'll say things like, "My mommy can't have tomatoes because they have gluten." And for a while he called it "fluten gree" instead of "gluten free." It was pretty cute. The other night we were at Subway and the cashier asked if we wanted any...
  15. Luckily we don't have the bed wetting issue, but it still truly amazes me how many totally different symptoms are related to the gluten. I find more and more each day. Roda, sounds like we're in the same boat with trying to convince our husbands about the gluten stuff. Hopefully after your gluten challenge next month he'll be convinced.
  16. You might want to consider getting tested. First degree relatives have a higher chance of getting the disease. From what I've read it's 1 in 20, versus 1 in 133 for the general population. And since your dad has already been diagnosed, you probably carry the gene even if you don't have full blown Celiac Disease. There's a chance you daughter could have...
  17. Okay, I can never get these links to work right. The website is: Open Original Shared Link
  18. Open Original Shared Link Check out this link. It seems to have some good info on eating gluten-free at Disney.
  19. Thanks everyone for your responses. You made me feel much better. Pricklypear, I saw your post on the other thread about your bug. I hope you feel better soon. I think I've been gradually trying to work my husband into the whole gluten free thing. But If my son tests positive, the house will go totally gluten free immediately, which will be a shock...
  20. Samie, Do you go to the support group meetings? I think they're on the 3rd Tuesday at Whole Foods? I haven't been to one yet and was just curious.
  21. Yeah, it's frustrating not knowing for sure if it's gluten or not. I got really sick a couple of months ago and ended up in the ER. The doc said it was food poisoning, but I'm not so sure. I just kept wondering if it was gluten related. I guess it's all part of my gluten paranoia
  22. I've been on doctor prescribed vitamin D and iron pills for a while. I get nauseous after I get glutened. I wonder if it's because my body can't absorb the supplements because of the gluten? I don't know. But the Vitamin D and iron have really helped with my fatigue and my mood.
  23. Got glutened Saturday. The extreme fatigue started about 2 hours afterwards. The D started the next day and lasted 1 day. The sinus problems, depression and brain fog started on day 2 and the depression lasted until today. The brain fog and sinus problems will probably go on for another week or so. I agree with everyone else about the journaling. ...
  24. I was just diagnosed as Celiac in August and I've seriously been thinking about getting my son tested since then. He doesn't have bad gi problems, but there are some things I notice that make me suspect gluten intolerance. He has really bad allergies, occasionally complains of stomach pains, is kind of uncoordinated, has problems paying attention, and bruises...
  25. Was your first test a blood test and the second a biopsy? Did you have positive on one and negative on the other? I ask because that is what happened to me. I would suggest googling "Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance." There's a lot of research about people who don't show signs of Celiac in their biopsy but still have problems with gluten. Dr. Stephen...
