  1. I'm in Memphis, so I'm close to you Samie.
  2. Plus I have thinning hair that is not thyroid related. I figure if my body has such a hard time with the gluten, it's probably easier on my hair to use gluten-free shampoo. And also I don't have to worry about accidentally ingesting any.
  3. I take Prozac for depression and I really like it. I was taking Zoloft and it stopped working for me. But I definitely understand your hesitation if you're breast feeding. I weaned myself off the zoloft when we began trying to conceive and kept off of it until after I was done breast feeding. I know the doctors will say some medicines are okay, but really...
  4. I second everyone else about talking to your priest. I'm not Catholic, so I'm not sure about the low gluten vs. no gluten host. But when I talked to my Methodist pastor about using no gluten host, he was very sympathetic and had no problems with it. And he didn't require any proof that I had Celiac. In fact, 3 other people in the church were already using...
  5. IrishHeart, your mom totally rocks!
  6. I haven't had any problems with Riceland, but I'm not a super sensitive. Do you have a lot of problems with soy? I ask because a lot of Riceland Rice is grown in Arkansas near soy bean fields.
  7. First of all, deep breath. It will be okay. He's lucky to have someone who loves him so much and wants to help him. To answer some of your questions: See if your library has some gluten free cookbooks. There's a thread on here with gluten free recipes. There are a ton of blogs on the internet. See if you have a friend who can help teach you...
  8. I got glutened Saturday night. It was one of those things where I just wasn't paying attention and afterwards I felt so stupid. Anyway, I've been pushing huge amounts of water through my system. I also ready somewhere on this board to soak in a bath with 2 cups Epsom Salts and 1 cup Baking Soda, so I tried that. I've also been taking lots of probiotics...
  9. For me it is like a withdrawal. I start craving gluten. I get very irritable and tired. Hang in there. Like everyone else said, it takes time to heal. Give your body a chance to recover. It will be worth it in the long run when you're clear headed and full of energy.
  10. I'm the first diagnosed one in my family, but I see possible signs of it throughout the family tree. My grandmother was hypoglycemic, had thyroid issues and was hospitalized for depression. She also had breast cancer. My mother had hair loss, undiagnosed depression issues, and died of cervical cancer. My grandfather had severe environmental allergies...
  11. This is my first gluten-free Thanksgiving but I'm pretty lucky. Our family always gets together on Friday for the holiday, instead of Thursday, so various family members can visit their in-laws on Thanksgiving Day. I usually end up cooking a dinner for my husband and son on Thursday anyway. This year it will be a gluten-free feast, so I'll just bring...
  12. You are the best advocate for your own health. And you have every right to ask for whatever tests you think will make your feel better. Iwas the one who asked my GP to run a celiac panel, not the other way around. A lot of other people on these boards found out either by asking their doctors for the test or by deciding to go gluten-free without any...
  13. Oh, I wish I could find Magner's Cider near my house. That's all I drank when I was on my honeymoon in Ireland. They called it Bulmer's in the Republic of Ireland and Mangers in Northern Ireland but it was the same cider. For a while I could get Hornsby's Cider at the local Kroger but I guess I was the only buying it, so they stopped carrying it. Woodchuck...
  14. Moon goddess chocolate chip cookie bars. Yummy! 365 Almond butter - tastes great on apples
  15. Unfortunately I don't think a lot of doctors and nurses take this kind of stuff seriously. I went to the dermatologist last week and wrote on my new patient form that I was allergic to Novacaine, wheat, barley, oats and rye. (I know I'm not "allergic" but I thought that was the easiest way to get across that I couldn't have any.) The nurse didn't even...
  16. I so totally agree with this statement. I really think Celiac is just a small segment of Gluten Intolerance. And until doctors recognize that there are a broad spectrum of symptoms related to gluten intolerance, it will continue to be severly under diagnosed. I tell people I have Celiac disease, but if I were more accurate, I would say that I really...
  17. I don't know why it's so drawn out, but I have the same problem. It takes me 10 days to 2 weeks to get it all out of my system. That's more frustrating to me than staying on the diet. I have no problem not eating gluten, but I get so frustrated when I get glutened by accident and know that's two weeks of my life that I'll feel bad. Maybe that's how...
  18. Shampoos, Conditioners, Hairspray (White Rain?) - Garnier fructis has a new line. I can't remember the name. It has pure in the label. It's gluten free. Cosmetics (I only wear: lip gloss/lip balm/lip stain, perfume, nail polish & nail polish remover) Blistex is gluten free. Burt's Bees Lip shimmers are also gluten free. They're my go to lip gloss...
  19. I'm still pretty new to this gluten free stuff so I'm currently reading everything I can get my hands on about it. One common theme I'm seeing is how unreliable all the testing is. The blood test can have false negative. I keep reading that the biopsy is the "gold standard" for being diagnosed, yet I read that a lot of times physicians don't get enough...
  20. It's not just you who has had that experience. My GI dropped me the minute my biopsies came back negative. He wouldn't even return my phone calls. Even though I told his nurse I was gluten free for 6 weeks before the procedure, not knowing it would mess up my test. I was so incredibly angry. My Primary Care Doctor, on the other had is absolutely wonderful...
  21. One house I went to gave out temporary tattoos instead of candy. I thought that was a cute idea.
  22. Some people have issues with nightshade vegetables - potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants and peppers. Since you were eating potatoes and tomatoes (ketchup) maybe you should avoid those for a while.
  23. My 5 year old son is always asking me if stuff I'm eating is "fluten gree." It's so cute that he cares, even if he can't pronounce it right.
  24. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, "I could never give up eating bread," I'd have the bill for my colonoscopy paid off I've started carrying a little "care package" in my purse with gluten free condiments and a lara bar. That way if I'm stuck somewhere I know I'll at least have one gluten-free thing to eat.

    ARCHIVED Panera

I've eaten there twice and haven't had a problem. Both times I had one of their salads. But I'm not a super sensitive.
