  1. I second what Ravenwoodglass said. A full blood panel with testing for vitamin and mineral deficiencies is important. Because our bodies do not absorb things as well as regular people, we're more prone to be vitamin deficient and iron deficient. I've also heard people recommend a bone density scan due to possible calcium deficiency.
  2. I haven't had a problem as of yet. But I find I'm becoming more and more sensitive each month I'm on the diet, so it may happen in the future. I hope it's only the toothpaste. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't kiss my hubby
  3. When I'm glutened, I get extreme fatigue 2-3 hours after eating. I literally cannot keep my eyes open. Have you had a blood panel run lately to check your vitamin levels? Anemia and Vitamin D deficiencies can contribute to fatigue.
  4. So, for Christmas I got a Cuisinart Bread Maker with the Gluten Free Setting. The bread maker works great and I'm really enjoying having fresh bread. But it amazes me how a company that can make a bread maker with a special setting for gluten free bread still doesn't get it. I was looking through my manual (yes, I'm one of those weirdos who actually...
  5. My husband is a beer drinker. He knows that I won't kiss him when he's been drinking beer until after he brushes. Your guy sounds like a good one since he's willing to accomodate your needs.
  6. A lot of Celiac symptoms aren't related to the GI tract. Many of them are neurological or related to the immune system. And Celiacs are at a higher risk for getting autoimmune diseases like Lupus. That's why she definitely needs to be tested. Personally, I tested borderline for Lupus before I found out about the Celiac Disease. Now that I'm gluten...
  7. It's funny because my Uncle called me the other day and said he wanted to send our family some cookies. Then he thought about me and didn't want to tempt me. I told him I wouldn't be tempted at all and that I felt so much better gluten free that I wasn't about to ruin that. I told him hubby and my son would enjoy the cookies. I don't think he truly...
  8. Sometimes people just don't think. I was at a restaurant with my hubby 2 months ago. The cashier asked if I wanted a cookie with my salad. Hubby looked at me and said, "Do you want a cookie?" I just raised an eyebrow at him and said, "Really?" It took him a second and then he realized what he had just said. He was embarassed. He didn't mean anything...
  9. I don't know about a brochure or flyer, but maybe you could bookmark the sections on cross contamination in a couple of Celiac books. There have been a bunch of threads on here with people recommending different books. Maybe you could check some out of the library and photo copy some sections. My husband is not a huge reader, so short and to the point...
  10. Thanks for the info. I will store that away for future reference.
  11. I like the suspicious foods list. That's a good idea. I already keep a log of glutening "incidents" and "safe foods." A suspicious foods list might be a good addition to those.
  12. My bosses are always commenting on how good my leftovers smell as they walk through with their bags of Subway or Chick-fil-A. I just laugh. Mine is cheaper, healthier and tastes better. One of the things that I've been ranting about, even before my Celiac diagnosis, is that there's no food in our food any more. It's all chemicals. It frustrates me...
  13. I got glutened Christmas Eve at my in-laws. What's so bad is my MIL is trying so hard to accomodate my diet but I still got zapped anyway. Ugh. Christmas day we had steak and mashed potatos. I wasn't up to cooking much since I got glutened the night before. The happy news is that I got a Cuisinart Bread Machine for Christmas so I can now make my own...
  14. One of my best friends in the entire world gets it. In the past she's heard me moaning about I wish we had a Trader Joes around here. She went on a trip recently and brought me back a whole grocery sack of gluten free goodies from Trader Joes. I was so happy I almost cried. That's a true friend.
  15. I've had nausea in the beginning of my diet too. I think it was my body healing. It has since gone away. Someone told me the nausea pressure point is on your wrist. Those motion sickness bands have a thing that presses on it. You could try one of them and see if it helps. Or just take a couple of fingers and press on the underside of your wrist, where...
  16. What an awesome teacher. She deserves a raise It is hard this time of year. We get a lot of food at the office. I just keep telling myself my coworkers that I'm going to be really skinny by the time the holidays are over because I'm not eating any of that stuff.
  17. According to my eating out app the only two things that are safe at Taco bell are the pinto beans and rice. I know from personal experience that the meat has gluten in it. I stay away from there since there's nothing I can eat.
  18. Forgot to add...ScarlettsMommy - You've only been on the diet 2 days. Your body is still detoxing from the gluten. Hang in there. Scientists have found properties in gluten that are like opiates. So think of it as if you're detoxing from the drug of gluten. It gets easier each day you "stay on the wagon."
  19. That's my question too. Most of my symptoms are not gi related. Will the vaccine prevent the depression, brain fog, ataxia, dh, etc. that are also a huge part of the disease? Will it eliminate the risk of getting other autoimmune diseases in the future? I guess I'd wait and see how other people are reacting to it before it I take it. I'm curious to...
  20. I think it's hard to explain the mental issues because while you may know you're feeling bad inside, that may not be what you're showing to the outside world. For instance, right now I have horrible brain fog. But I cover it pretty well, so other people may not notice. We usually don't link our symptoms to Celiac at first, so it's even harder for...
  21. I'm so sorry. That's so frustrating. I've had it happen to me too. Don't beat yourself up too badly.
  22. Yes, Nutella is divine. I also like it on sliced apples. Yum!
  23. Snacks: Carrots & hummus Apples Lays Stax (not healthy, I know) Skittles (Ditto) Meals: My dinners haven't changed that much. Meat or fish with 2 veggies or a veggie & a salad on the side. On weekends I'll make lots of soup and freeze some. For lunch I usually do leftovers.
  24. You might make some money on that idea. A lot of companies get started that way. I do use the "Is That Gluten Free" app when I go to the grocery store. It comes in handy for looking up gluten free brands.
