  1. I'm another with a positive blood test and negative biopsy.
  2. Actually had a similar thing happen to me at a hotel. Hubby was getting me some scrambled eggs and the chef asked if he wanted toast with that. Hubby said no, it was for his gluten free wife. The chef said that I couldn't eat the eggs because the oil (or maybe it was butter) they cooked the eggs in had barley in it. He got a clean pan and made some eggs...
  3. Yeah, now it sounds like I'm abusing him because I haven't taught him more cooking skills than the pb&j. You guys don't call CPS on me, please. Or would that be GPS - Gluten Protective Services
  4. Yeah, I think it is a pretty new idea. I'm not really sure how many doctors in the U.S. are aware of it yet. Unfortunately I'm just getting into researching it myself, so I don't have a whole lot of answers yet about testing for it. But I know there are several people on the boards who have it, so maybe they'll chime in soon. I just bought "What HIT Me...
  5. Oh, that's even scarier. You're talking about a doctor. A supposed medical professional.
  6. Not sure about Destin. I just got back from Gulf Shores and did a post on the travel thread. I don't know if they have some of the same restaurants in Destin as there, but you might check it out and see.
  7. Forgot to add that LuLu's has gluten free buns for their burgers - either Rudi's or Udi's, I can't remember which but I remember seeing it on the menu.
  8. Just got back from a beach vacation with the family and thought I'd share a few restaurant options for those traveling to the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Fort Morgan Alabama area. This is my second year eating gluten free at the beach and here's a few of the places I hit: Fort Morgan Tacky Jacks II - The waitress was very helpful here. She recommended...
  9. I believe it's not the crop rotation that is an issue with wheat/oats. It's the fact that they are usually grown next to each other at the same time. And they are often processed in the same facility. I live in a state where large amounts of soybeans are grown. Where I live, almost no wheat is grown. Soy may be rotated with corn or cotton here. Not...
  10. Have you checked into Histamine Intolerance? Some of the other community members here can tell you more about it as they have more experience with it. It is something I suspect I might have. I've always had bad allergies myself. I have been gluten free for 2 years and felt a lot better at first, but now that the gluten is out of my system, other issues...
  11. Last year I was talking to my son's teacher. He was having some concentration problems (and since then has been diagnosed ADD). I mentioned something to her about trying dietary changes to see if that would affect his concentration. She said, "Oh, I don't believe there's any link between food and behavior or medical issues." I told her, "I have to disagree...
  12. I suspect mine was triggered by pregnancy. I got pregnant at age 37 and diagnosed at age 42. A non-celiac gluten intolerant friend of mine theorizes that loosing weight can trigger it too. She tried to loose weight and her NCGI appeared. Same thing happened to another friend. That possibly could be my trigger too, as I tried to lose weight after my pregnancy...
  13. Adalaide, sounds like we need to get together over a few gluten-free glasses of wine and swap MIL stories
  14. Funny you should bring this up. I am going through "an issue" with my mother in law right now. I've been gluten-free for 2 years. She knows this. But lately she's been having issues with it. Unfortunately we both have strong personalities and I have a feeling the whole situation will come to a head soon with a large fight. Our house is semi-gluten...
  15. Several times I've subsituted an all-purpose flour blend (usually Pamela's) for all the flours in a recipe if I didn't have some of the individual flours. It didn't cause a problem for me. If I were doing a very finicky recipe though, I don't think I would try it. But for something simple, like cookies, it worked out fine. Like the posters said above...
  16. I use Bare Minerals and I think there are several other people on the board who do too. I've been really pleased with their make-up. I also use the Burt's Bees Lip Shimmers. They are gluten-free, although not all of Burt's Bees products are.
  17. I use mysymptoms food diary on the i-phone. I can't remember if I paid for it or if it was free. It's pretty easy to use and is easily customizable. You can enter your food daily, along with symptoms of issues - headache, bloating, etc. It will also track your bowel movements using the Bristol scale. You can add data about sleep, exercise, medicine, the...
  18. Pacific Soups has a gluten free tomato soup. I just double checked their website to be sure. Open Original Shared Link I remember trying to find some for a recipe and that was the only brand I could find without gluten.
  19. We flew United/Lufthansa to Poland (through Germany) a couple of months ago. The food was not great. On the flight over they forgot my gluten-free entree. The flight attendant was super sweet and tried to make up for it by giving me extra fruit. Breakfast on the way over was not bad - eggs and a rice cake. I was just glad I had packed a ton of snacks...
  20. Time is a big factor for me too. When I can grab a few interrupted hours in the kitchen I'll really go to town. My other issue is inconsistency in how stuff comes out. I'll follow the directions on the recipe but some times my stuff doesn't come out looking anything like it's supposed to. Finally, I always crack up at the portion sizes on recipes...
  21. Thanks for the ideas everyone. I didn't respond earlier because I was sick all weekend with a horrible headache. I'm going back to basics and doing an elimination diet and keeping a food journal. I started both a while back but the lack of energy makes it hard for me to stick to it. I've determined I'm going to this time.
  22. I am on the waiting list and the receptionist said they sometimes have cancellations, but she can't say for sure if they will. If I hadn't heard such good things about this guy, I would go find someone else. But my options are really limited and he seems like the best NP in town.
  23. Ugh, I just need to get this out there to some people who understand. I have been gluten free for 2 years and I think that has resolved some of my issues, but I suspect that some other health issues have come to the forefront now. I've been dealing with this off and on for about 6 months. I love my GP. She is a wonderful, kind, caring doctor. But...
  24. Don't feel too bad. When I was first diagnosed I went there too and thought it was safe to eat their hard tacos. Then I found on their website that their meat has gluten. The last time I checked, the only safe foods at Taco Bell were their rice and beans, so I just avoid them altogether. The good news is that there are a lot of taco shells at the...
  25. Before I went gluten-free I had a cat with some health problems. I had to switch him over to Wellness brand cat food. It was expensive, but the food was top notch. Most wet cat food looks nasty when you open the can. Wellness looks like opening a can of human grade tuna or chicken. I was seriously ready to grab a fork and dig in. Not all of their foods...
