  1. Oh no, I hope you had some backup snacks with you so you didn't starve. That's disappointing.
  2. Open Original Shared Link Hopefully the link above will work and will be helpful to you. I used Tresseme before going gluten free. I think I remember seeing wheat germ on the label, but I may be wrong because that was a couple of years ago. Now I use Whole Foods Everyday 365 shampoo and conditioner and Everyday Shea Shampoo (plain version only, the...
  3. Yeah, I've said this before the but the mental issues that come with glutening are the worst for me. They last for weeks afterward. I get so apathetic and moody and depressed. Hang in there. It will get better.
  4. I've also had good luck at Chipoltle. There's one close to my work and I've eaten there several times. Not only do they change their gloves, but they also wash their hands in between. And one person has taken my burrito bowl all they way down the line. Also, I've never had a problem with the chips either. I think they must package them all in the morning...
  5. I made the Bisquick recipe Friday and it turned out pretty good. The comments suggested adding extra broth to the recipe to keep it from being doughy and I agree. But the taste was good and it was really easy. I'd like to try your recipe, love2travel, because it sounds really yummy too.
  6. I'm in a Methodist church and talked to my pastor about all of this. I had bought gluten free host and he was trying to serve it while holding it next to the bread <shudder> I explained cross contamination and put myself in charge of the gluten free host. We have a separate little plate that is used for nothing but that. And we do the juice in the...
  7. I am not sure about the eggs, but I have a couple of gluten free bread recipes that cook on the regular cycle, instead of the gluten free. I think I would go by whatever the manufacturer said on the box.
  8. Thanks Kareng. That recipe looks great and super easy. Just what I needed.
  9. So, I was talking to my friend the other day and she mentioned making chicken and dumplings for her girls. That made me start craving some for myself. I haven't made any since going gluten-free, so I don't have a recipe. Any of you out there have a good gluten-free chicken and dumpling recipe you can share? With fall coming I'm starting to crave warm...
  10. That is great news. Where I live we have two athletic stadiums that have gluten free offerings. The baseball stadium has Bard's beer, gluten-free hot dog buns and bbq nachos that are to die for. They also have salads and huge fruit cups, as well as standard stadium fare like cotton candy, ice cream and popcorn. I spoke to the catering manager there and...
  11. I mentioned this in another thread, but I suggest going to your local library and checking out any books they have on Celiac Disease. That will help you better understand things you can and can't eat. Also get prepared to become an expert food label reader
  12. Candy, if you want to put your health at risk by eating wheat bran, that's your perogative. If you aren't Celiac or gluten intolerant, it won't cause you any problems. But if you are, it will do some damage to your system eventually. Personally I can find other ways to get fiber and B vitamins without the risk of cross contamination. As Kareng...
  13. It's not me. I'm over in West Tennesse. And someone here keeps buying all my Glutino Yogurt Covered Pretzels
  14. I had a slightly positive ana test before I was gluten-free. That was what lead me to investigate and find that I needed to be tested for Celiac. I was retested six months after going gluten-free and my ana levels were back within range. It's definitely something you want to keep an eye on. Hopefully after a while your system being gluten-free, it will...
  15. I don't have POTS but did suffer from fainting spells for quite a while. The "specialists" I went to see never could figure out what was causing the problem but it is one of the things that improved for me while being gluten free. Hopefully it will for you too. As for the fast food, I feel your pain. It is hard some days to get everything done that...
  16. Takes about 2 hours to hit me. When it does, I just have to fall asleep immediately. I literally cannot stay awake. It's very dangerous if I'm driving. Usually the big D doesn't hit me until the next day.
  17. Also, there are a bunch of commercial gluten free styling products out there. Unfortunately I can't remember the names at the moment. When I first went gluten free, I talked to my stylist about the issue. My big concern was that my hair was already fragile from my celiac and I didn't want to compound the problem by adding products with gluten, much less...
  18. I think we don't realize how often we put our hands in our mouths. Hand lotion is an easy one to get in your mouth. Put some lotion on your hands and then pick up a piece of food and eat it.
  19. You can buy bottle to use as cooking oil spray. You just add some olive oil and the nozzle sprays it on just like cooking spray. I'm not describing it very well, but hopefully you can understand what I mean. I'm not sure where we got ours - maybe Bed, Bath & Beyond or Williams Sonoma. It doesn't spray as evenly as the commercial ones and the nozzle...
  20. Great analogy about the plants, GFinDC. That really explains the issue well. It sounds like you're not strictly keeping to the diet. Unfortunately with Celiac you can't be pseudo gluten free. It doesn't work. That's probably not what you wanted to hear, but it's unfortunately the truth. But it sounds like you already know that deep down. Following...
  21. For me it's more sinus related - runny nose, stuffy nose, sinus headache. Unfortunately the wine does it to me too So I've had to stop drinking that. And my cider too. I found out by keeping a food journal on my i-phone and going to the site that Irish linked above.
  22. Kind of OT, but a funny story about horses I had to share. We went to visit some friends and their son is highly allergic to peanuts, dogs, cats, and horses. He's 5 and he's pretty good about it. But he has been to the hospital a bunch of times because of reactions and does have to keep an epi-pen with him at all times. Anyway, he was out with his...
  23. I second calling ahead to the caterer. I have done this twice recently. The first was for an awards presentation for a friend of mine. The event was held at a hotel ballroom that is used to handling a lot of conventions and meetings. It was no problem at all. I didn't realize that my friend had also called to get me a gluten free meal (yes, she is an...
  24. I liked the yellow cake mix. I made cupcakes with it. I had a reaction to one of the preservatives in the cookie mix, but I remember the chocolate chip cookies tasting pretty good before I broke out in hives But really it's almost as easy for me to make the cookies from scratch and then I don't have to worry about the preservatives. The brownies...
