  1. My understanding is that the meat itself is not toxic, but it is the additives in the feeds etc. that are causing problems.... if you get grass fed beef, it is considered to be a safe meat by most naturopathic people that I have spoken to. I would imagine that the same holds for other meats.... I have been told that wild game is very healthy and not toxic...
  2. I am O - and a' very senstive DH Celiac'. I like the idea that it's the oldest blood type and would therefore have likely been that of the hunter gatherers.... I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian and have been for about the last 25 years.
  3. Udi's Snickerdoodle cookies are a great sweet snack! They make my tastebuds sing (and trust me, that's the only singing anyone wants me to do!!)
  4. So, does anyone out there have a recipe for Christmas cakes that work? I made a lovely tasting cake this year ,but it .... lacked cohesion. If it was in the fridge, it was fine, but who wants to eat really cold Christmas cake. So, I resorted to ... Christmas cake crumble, muck a bit of butter on it and eat it with a fork, the taste was there! Being in...
  5. Lived 'Up North' for 23 years, now down in Central BC Have you tried KinnickKinnick pizza crusts.......Yum! And how about Udi's breads, bagels and oooh YUM.. Snickerdoodles!
  6. Over here in Central BC!
  7. Thanks for this post, we are off to Maui in Feb. and I was looking for restaurants there! Celiac and vegetarian can be a challenge!
  8. A related ? Question... Does anyone know of a good gluten free vegetarian restaurant choice in Maui? We are heading there for a holiday and while we will be in a rental condo it would be really nice to go out for a meal or two.... Thanks!
  9. I am RH neg and my Mum who is also Celiac is RH pos......no help here!
  10. Interestingly enough, I had much the same symptomology after starting synthroid, I stuck with it for two months, until my Dr. was happy with my levels. Then I very calmly ditched the synthroid. I am taking phytothyroid and thryosense. They are natural products meant to boost my thyroid production. I think they are working, it's only been a month, but...
  11. Good luck, yes the challenge stinks, but I do think it's the only way.
  12. My 80 year old Mum got tested, and then when I investigated Celiac for her, it turns out I had most of the symptoms for DH myself So, got tested and the rest as they say is history!
  13. Wow! Thanks, this is a terrific site! As I sit here itching horrendously (dinner out tonight) I think I ate something that didn't agree with my system! But this site is a real help in answering many of my queries! Thanks again Dilettantesteph!
  14. Thanks Diane, I agree it sounds like an idea, so I did do that. We'll see if there is a response or not! this is the first forum I've ever written in on, but with all the support I see the attraction of forums
  15. Hi, wondering as I am having a DH flare up and my psoriasis seems to be more 'active?' now, does anyone else notice a correlation between the two, or is it just coincidence?
  16. Suitably chastised (My Mum always said the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask) Glad to hear that you don't suffer with psoriasis - it's just kind of 'one more thing' you don't need! I don't 'need' it either, but that's life eh? I thought it was perhaps quite widely affecting those of us with D.H.? But, obviously there is a lot about the celiac...
  17. I have a question.....Probably a dumb one, but here goes.......Does anyone else out there find that when they have a D.H. flare-up their psoriasis also kicks up?? I am itchy with the D.H. and also massively bothered with the psoriasis at the same time.... So I wondered if it's just me, or if other people find the same issue? Not that I think there is much...
  18. Yeah, they can keep the hard moldy type of cheeses as far as I am concerned too. As to the Boursin cheese, I'll miss it, but that's life with D.H. eh?
  19. I am so glad you told me that about the iodized salt in things...My reasoning seemed sound to me But hey!! Yay for pickles! I just figured out the 'garlic and fine herb Boursin cheese' didn't do me any favours! Oh well, my daughter will get the remainder of it! It 'got' me twice, so it's definitely a no-no! I do know that dairy isn't too good, but...
  20. Thanks Pricklypear1971! I had kind of surmised that if it were cheaper to use non iodized salt (which is my understanding) the largest percentage of prepared foods would likely use the cheaper version.... but I really had no clue about the pickles. Good to know! Tis a slippery slope that I am navigating lately, but with the help of all you wonderful folks...
  21. thanks I didn't think of pickles etc. and of course my p.b. has salt added.......Oh well, I will pay attention and just go by what seems to affect me. Have a good day Squirmingitch!!
  22. Thanks, you all have made good points! What I thought I would do, (made sense to me) put the list up on the fridge and pay attention to when I have the miserable itchys and then look at the list to see if it is likely that I had too much (or any) of the things on the list. I thought that might be a way to sort of confirm what is causing these 'flare ups...
  23. squirmingitch, I just wanted to tell you I have printed the "list" and will stick it up on the fridge ASAP
  24. Thank you for the list (Yikes!!) I have to admit there are a lot of my groceries on that list! I am a vegetarian as well, and my list of 'can haves' seems to be diminishing rapidly! But if I can feel good and not have an explosion of that rotten DH rash so be it! I believe I will cut and paste and put it up in my kitchen too...
  25. Thank you all! there is a possibility of cc I guess, it wasn't specifically gluten-free stated. I didn't know much about the iodine end of things... I will pay FAR more attention to that in the future.
