  1. I can't even count the number of times I've heard that. From medical professionals even! Oddly enough though, there was recently a study that said that redheaded women are biologically tougher. (Which makes perfect sense to me, several times I've gone to the doctor and they were suprised that I was even up walking around.) I say that we're tough and everyone...
  2. I felt the exact same way Diosa. I've only been gluten-free for just over 5 months now, but I swear the first 3 months I was getting glutened constantly. I'm on a pretty good streak right now (knock on wood!), although I did get glutened once about a month ago. What I do is a) I bring my own food whenever I realistically can. It's a pain sometimes...
  3. I always thought that gluten had to be ingested, but I have no actual information on this so it may not be true (but I do know that you can take BC pills vaginally, so who knows). It could just be a coincidence, or it could have had gluten. It's never happened to me, but I imagine that it would take as long to straighten out as a regular glutening.
  4. Sick how? Be careful of things like TSS, that can be caused by tampons.
  5. That's kind of a bizarre website! "Put a tiger in the tank while you're prowling the neighborhood" I wish they had it around here, I was hoping for a store locator or something.
  6. I've been toying with the idea, but only because I can remember a few times that I was sedated for a minor procedure and was told by whoever came to pick me up that I was talking and seemed awake but I don't remember any of it. If someone had offered me something to eat at that time (who knows why they would, but you never know) I probably would have just...
  7. What is the name of the Chinese beer?
  8. I tell everyone about it too. I want people to be educated about what celiac disease is. Think how many people are suffering needlessly for lack of information? Some people don't get it at first, but I just keep answering their questions.
  9. You shouldn't let them bully you out of a job! Have your doctor write something up that indicates how serious your problem is. Document everything they say to you as well. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with treating you like that.
  10. Oh, you must live close to my MIL! She lives on Stanley Street. Do you live up closer by the high school? If you ever want me to go with you to Eau Claire and show you around, let me know! I'd be happy to. I'll PM you with my phone number and email if you ever want to.
  11. I have tried lots of stuff from Grandma Ferdon's. I love love love the steak pasties, but I'm not so keen on the veggie ones (I really don't care for broccoli, and the whole thing tasted like broccoli). I LOVE the cinnamon rolls, the donut holes are good and I like the egg bread as well. I've also tried the chocolate cookies, which were good, and the brownies...
  12. I try to eat eggs or dairy every day, I try to eat meat every other day (although sometimes it's more like every 3rd day).
  13. This is the main area that is making this decision hard. On the one hand, my doctor does not think that I should become a veggie. No matter what I eat, my protein levels are always low (she checks my bloodwork every couple of months) and she's always telling me to try and eat more eggs and meat. My sister is the same way, only she's a vegan and has recently...
  14. Have you asked your local place about their white sauce? I can have the white sauce at the place around here, and I just bring my own soy sauce. Or you can try some of the sunbird seasoning packets from the grocery store. Some of those are pretty good.
  15. That's kinda what I thought. Very cool though. I used to go through a bottle of lotion about every 2 weeks, now I've still got one that's almost a month old! Yay!
  16. What side of town are you building on? We live on the south side, but below the hill (you know, in the slums LOL). Where do you grocery shop usually? Gordy's has a reasonable gluten-free selection, but you couldn't pay me enough to buy meat or produce there (I can't tell you how many times my mom and I have gotten spoiled meat or produce there. It's unreal...
  17. I used to have to slather on the lotion twice a day, and carry some in my purse because washing my hands in a public bathroom (with that cheap soap they use) always made them painfully dry. I have hardly been using any lotion at all lately. It just dawned on me, because I'm at school and have used the bathroom (washed my hands of course) at least 4-5...
  18. Ooh, that sounds good! MMM. Hopefully it's near where I'm staying....
  19. I'm not sure exactly what hotel, I'll find that out within the next few days I think. Anyone know any safe restaurants? (I'm just going to assume that I won't be able to eat anything at the conference itself)
  20. Actually, just about a week ago he agreed to having a gluten-free kitchen! Of course he can still eat whatever he wants away from home, or bring in gluten containing takeout food, but everything prepared in our kitchen will be gluten-free from now on. I explained to him that it made me feel weird and hurt my feelings a little bit when he refused to try...
  21. I wonder if my mom can make some kind of decent gluten-free sugar cookie dough. She made a really good gluten-free poppyseed cake for me (tasted just like the real thing), maybe she can do it.
  22. Mmmmmm.......fish fry and sugar cookie dough (not together of course). I forgot about those things. Now if you'll please excuse me while I go weep in the corner.
  23. 1) thick crust pizza with sausage, mushrooms and extra cheese 2) crab rangoons 3) beer
  24. I tried corn pasta once, and it was just icky. Very unpleasant texture, but I too have really liked the brown rice pastas that I've tried.
  25. OOOOHHH! That would burn my butt. I have gotten that from other people, thinking that I'm being too "picky" or over-reacting. I guess I can see how some people wouldn't understand, but if you feel sick, you feel sick! Kick him in the shins.
