  1. Good to know. Thanks.
  2. Amen & ditto.
  3. Thanks Roda! Now I can have almond milk. That will help with keeping the iodine at lower levels. YAY!
  4. Hi Hopeful! Thanks for the info. I realize I have a LONG way to go on learning the flours & which does what & tastes like what in what. I think I'm going to miss baking powder biscuits the most. I always made my own & have always loved biscuits. I got all excited one day when I found a gluten-free baking powder biscuit recipe online which claimed...
  5. Roda, I'm very glad to hear you're doing well now. I'm learning this disease affects us in so many ways & limits our food choices beyond the original scope we first think. I know I'm heading down the road to finding out what affects me & what doesn't. I think I've discovered a problem with soy for myself. Had toast which has soy in it yesterday morning...
  6. I'll look for them online with everything else on my list. Thanks!
  7. Thank you everyone! Ah yes, the leafy greens of course. I did know that but couldn't think of it. Chalk it up to temporary insanity due to intense itching & hunger. This stuff is making me stupid. But I know you've all been there, done that & it's nice to have you to turn to to keep me straight. And I do hope to discover down the road that I can take...
  8. Itchy, ---- What pricklypear said. I couldn't have stated it better myself! The iodine withdrawal is temporary. And it is in line of a test to see how I react. One has to do these things sometimes. AND I was suffering so badly --- well --- that ole devil prickly mentioned? We would be fast friends that devil & me. I have considered the filet knife at...
  9. Thanks Roda. I was just thinking about making my own bread & wondering how many recipes I would have to go through to happen upon a decent one. I hear you about the other foods for breakfast & I've never been one to stick to rules however I'm usually saving the leftover for lunch or snacks. I have never had cream of buckwheat. In fact I'm not...
  10. So I take it you love egg whites as much as I do! Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a whirl.
  11. Maybe I'll have to try the scrambled egg whites on hash browns or refried beans. Gads, I DESPISE egg whites!!!!!! But maybe I can get them down the way you suggest. I have been doing the egg white, water pancakes but worry I'll get sick of them if I eat them all the time. What gluten-free bread do you use? I seem to have been doing better without the...
  12. I had a bone scan last year (before I knew I had celiac)& it showed I had very mild osteopenia. Over the years I had tried every type of calcium supplement imaginable & they ALL gave me bad indigestion. Oyster calcium, the chocolate chews, liquid calcium gelcaps, & all the normal calcium pills. In order to increase my calcium intake I began drinking...
  13. Thought I would post a little update & I have some more questions. Finally, as of Nov. 1 or 2, I think I've got the gluten all out of my diet unless I'm missing something. I also stayed away from soy. And I have been iodine free. When I originally posted on 11/1 I had been off the steroid & by 11/6 I had been off it for 10 days. Also by that point...
  14. OOPS! Diandliam it seems I got you mixed up with pricklypear who posted having results after going iodine free for 3 days. Sorry.
  15. Dapsone is not the only choice you have. There are others. While Dapsone is the drug of choice & by all accounts results are rapid; there are alternate drugs which do not have quite the danger or side effects as dapsone. I have been looking into this myself & here is a Wiki link. go down to where it says "Treatment" & the other drugs are listed...
  16. Takala, Thank you!!!!! But I have to LOL at one of the suggestions --- castile soap --- who in the world but me would be allergic to castile soap? Since I was 7 or 8. It didn't make me break out but I would sneeze my fool head off. I haven't used it since. I do use Monkey Boy Products Jumping Jojoba sudsy scrub which is intended to be a face wash but I...
  17. I Googled Tocopheryl Acetate & it said it is Vitamin E, made from wheat & furthermore when used in lotions, creams, etc.... topically it can get absorbed into the skin. I have seen many people posting it shouldn't be used or taken not only on this site but other celiac sites. I had no idea the Canadian Celiac Assoc. considered them gluten free. Two...
  18. I haven't been able to tolerate anything with ANY kind of sunscreen in years & years. Now they seem to want to put sunscreen in almost all makeup -- even powder. That's a crazy ingredient list --- they have Tocopheryl Acetate which is vitamin E & then at the bottom they have Vitamin E! Weird. Wear a wide brim hat --- it doesn't contain gluten...
  19. I have no answer for you as I haven't been wearing make up at all & I'm a newbie at this whole gluten thing. I was looking at my Suave shampoo which all the sites say is gluten free but I see there is Tocopheryl Acetate in it so now I'm worried because it seems that is gluten. Sooooo....can you tell me what make up, lotion, shampoos & other stuff...
  20. But just wait until the docs realize they can get lots & lots of visits (read $$$$$) out of Celiacs with DH THEN they'll be diagnosing everyone with it. Jaded by experience.
  21. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried or considered doing a clear liquids fast for 3 days or so to jump start the cleansing of glutens & iodine. I'm not talking about fasting by drinking only water but rather a fast where you drink say organic (nothing added) apple juice, broths, cranberry juice etc... (all clear liquids). Nothing that would have any...
  22. Interesting & thanks. I will reply this evening depending if I have time. But wanted to touch base for the moment. I had a thought & I think it should have a new topic line so I am going to post it now. Oh, yes, & the reason I have so little time these days is because we moved, bought a piece of property, are renting while we get everything...
  23. I'm still here but fading fast. I'll look for reply when I get up in the am. Just sub eggwhites for the eggs equally & the same for the milk/water? THX
  24. First I would like to thank each & every one of you for your replies & so promptly too! Mushroom -- I know I nearly wrote a novel but I wanted to provide you guys with as much pertinent info. as I could. And I didn't think I could muster it all back up again to take it in stages. And STILL I forgot things. I thank you for your insight into the dairy...
