  1. Hi BubbasMom, How are you doing? Count down has begun. What day do you leave? I was just reading another thread & saw that you said you have problems with soy & found it even in your vitamins. I have problems with soy too. I also have problems with the iodine making my dh flare badly. So -- no gluten. soy, iodine. I searched & searched to...
  2. self diagnosed dh Sept. 2011

    gluten free 11/24/11

    soy free 11/24/11

  3. I found early on in my gluten-free diet that I also had a problem with soy. I quit the soy & the bloat quit. So you may want to look at other foods which may be causing or contributing to the problem. Also you may not be able to tolerate milk & dairy products yet until your villi heal some.
  4. Can you get the Dr's office to make photocopies & give them to you or your hubby? OR get them to fax the records to you? If it were me I would MAKE SURE I had a hard copy of those records in MY hands when I walked into Mayo. That's the only way you can be assured they will get a copy --- if YOU hand them to them OR if YOU fax them to Mayo.
  5. Hey mushroom -- I remember Dragnet! I think Sgt. Friday would break his face if he ever cracked a smile! I wonder if Mayo ever does any further referrals? Say Bubba'sMom goes to Fl. & they check her out & decide she needs more stuff, more at a later date --- follow up stuff --- I wonder if they would refer her to Mayo Rochester since it's...
  6. Nothing like high anxiety to get the old ticker racing eh? STRESS to the MAX! Okay, let's think here. I would say that because the bottom says Jacksonville, Fl. then it's Jacksonville, Fl. Now, based on that here is what I would do. I know you don't WANT to do it but when life gives you lemons...... I would start right NOW making arrangements for...
  7. Exactly what you needed right? Can you take anything for the nausea?
  8. Bubba'sMom, Well, I sure know mine was! No doubt about it. Mine was at 37. I had been to 6 OB/GYN's in 4 years & none of them paid the least attention to my symptoms. I knew something was wrong but they acted deaf. You know how the questionnaire asks if you've had any changes in amt. of blood? Yes. Changes in duration? Yes. Plus several other changes...
  9. Something else. IcookForYou, you're going to have to quit make up until you can get gluten free stuff & that includes lipstick. Either that or no kissing. :-) He can get glutened topically too. Shampoos, deodorants, after shave, soaps, & the list goes on. Don't forget about pills too -- pain relievers, vitamins, OTC stuff. This stuff gets complicated...
  10. LOL! My screen name was exactly how I had felt for quite some time! I can laugh now but I do NOT forget. I too know the feeling of seeing your life fading away & no one figuring out why. It was 18 yrs. ago when I was told at the Dr. office to go home & take major quantities of vitamin C along with decongestants to stop the bleeding I was experiencing...
  11. Glad you popped in here Aly1! What great info. for Bubba'sMom! How fantastic that you've been where she is going & can give her all the 411. We're all so worried about her. Your Dr. House sounds tee-riffic!
  12. I wanted to add that I did not mean to sound curt or condescending. I'm pressed for time right now. Mushroom has good advice. You need to learn about things like iodine & possibly other things which may irritate your boyfriends dh (dermatitis herpetiformis). Bisquick makes a gluten-free baking mix which is processed in a gluten free facility. You can...
  13. My advice is ---- WHOLE foods. That, in a nutshell means NOTHING processed. Buy your meat, veggies, fruits & rice & cook them. The less prepared things you deal with is the less chance of getting accidentally glutened. There is a sharp learning curve in going gluten free. It's impossible to learn everything in 1 day or 2 or even 2 weeks. Plus you...
  14. Jason, are you SURE the dog is on a gluten free diet? I was feeding my dog Orijen Regional Red grain free (therefore gluten free) & she began having problems with it. Then I saw a YouTube video of the Gluten Free Fox doing an elisha (sp?) test for gluten on it & it turned up high positive. I finally turned to ZiwiPeak air dried raw. They don't make...
  15. Screw the newer GI. I always think it's good for docs to be a bit cocky but there's a big difference between a bit cocky & arrogance. It really riles me the comment he made to you about what were you hoping to accomplish going to the ER. Rubs me wrong.
  16. Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!! Feb. 6th is a LOT better than March! I'm so glad to hear that. Whew! And hoping you can get in even sooner. As far as candida & antibiotics go I have heard things along the lines of what you're saying but I personally can't say. I know there are others here who have a far better grasp on that than I. And if it will sku any tests...
  17. Oh Bubba's Mom, this is heartbreaking! Okay, can you try for a different Mayo Clinic? You are aware there are ones spread all over the country right? Barring that; how about the nearest BIG city to you? A specialist there? Or some other well known hospital such as Shands. I'm assuming you are in the US. You need treatment NOW! Was it a Dr. at the hospital...
  18. Dear Bubba's mom, I am praying you are at long, long, last getting the testing you need to get the answers you need & getting the proper treatment you need! You are certainly one sick girl who needs to be listened to instead of shuffled around & blown off. I just looked up Whipple's & it does seem like a good possibility. The enlarged lymphs...
  19. It's too early for me to say anything with any certainty yet. I think iodine is affecting mine but can't verify that right now. I just had an epidural for degenerative disc disease & I expect that will calm things down for me for a while in the dh dept. so I won't be able to do any challenges for a while.
  20. What you describe can still be dh. It doesn't ALWAYS have fluid filled blisters. Especially after you've gone gluten free. Call it a sort of "milder" manifestation. BTW, I had those on my neck too & then they got worse & I got the blisters. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. As a matter of fact; I now have the rash on my neck with most places...
  21. I have so much hope for you! You are young. You have caught this early. Because you're young then you aren't quite as set in your ways as most of us who are older. Obviously you're attending college --- take some nutrition courses so you can make sure you know how to get all the proper nutrition from the foods you eat. And will know what vitamins & minerals...
  22. I'm sort of new at this myself but from all accounts the dh makes it HARDER for a diagnosis. A) You haven't had gluten for 8 years so your villi are most likely healed & normal. So that will be difficult for an endoscopy. Celiacs with dh tend to have less GI damage & less GI symptoms than Celiacs without dh. C) Getting a positive biopsy...
  23. If you never have a piece of gluten again then at some point the rash will go away & stay away; that is unless you are one in a million or billion (not actual figures there). Especially since you have caught it early as eatmeat4good says. But it's really hard to stay gluten free because of cross contamination. Unless YOU make sure you eat NO processed...
  24. gunny7, I am self diagnosed dh & therefore celiac. I have textbook dh & have gone strictly gluten free since Nov. 24. Have improved immeasurably. I can actually bear the way the dh presents itself these days. I'm getting steadily better. There's no way to prove it now but I'm sure my mother had dh (& therefore celiac) but her dh presented milder...
