ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
squirmingitch replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The skin biopsy is NOT I repeat NOT done taken ON the lesion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why people come up with false negatives. Because Derms don't know how to do it right & people getting it done don't know any better either. Avalon, I understand your daughter had 2 places biopsied ~~~ 1 ON a lesion & 1 adjacent to a lesion. The 1 adjacent... -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone Else Have This Issue?
squirmingitch replied to Ryniev's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have dh & never had too much bad GI symptoms & I've never had a weight problem unless you want to say I had a lack of weight problem. I always ate throughout the day ~~~ 5 small meals per day & like that. When I went gluten free I became horrendously RAVENOUS 24/7. I could eat a large breakfast & within 1 hour I was starving again. It still... -
ARCHIVED Starting To Suspect Celiac But I'm African American?
squirmingitch replied to lost36's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so irate at the doctors! Gee, it really WOULD be nice if African Americans were exempt from celiac disease but it just isn't true. I'm sorry you've been through so much. I have to ditto what Jestgar says including the humor. Screw the docs & go gluten free. If everything clears up (give it time) then you have your answer. You can even do a challenge... -

ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
squirmingitch replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You can have your answer easily enough. Go off gluten again & if the GI issues & the rash goes away then there is your answer. I will tell you from my experience though that the rash can take some time to subside & you may also need to go low iodine to help it along. If you keep eating gluten & your rash is truly dh then I can tell you the... -

ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
squirmingitch replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Looks like what my dh on my hands looks like. Are there little fluid filled blisters? Sort of hard to tell in the photo if there's clear fluid in them or not. Mine have fluid filled blisters but not everyone has the fluid filled all the time. Even myself. Sometimes it just presents as sort of an insect bite type of thing. I think when they are doing that... -

ARCHIVED Gripe About The Media
squirmingitch replied to Streetlegal's topic in Publications & Publicity
I respect your right to your opinion but I have a right to mine also. I take exception to your last line. You are saying that if I believe a gluten-free food I have eaten is contaminated that I will probably get dh blisters/lesions whether there was gluten in them or not. I heartily disagree. Or maybe I need a psychiatrist because the dh is psychologically... -
ARCHIVED Gripe About The Media

Like you I can not eat soy so Udi's is out for me. BTW, Canyon Bakeouse Mountain White & Cinnamon Raisin don't list corn or soy as ingredients so maybe you can eat those. The sea salt & egg combo put them out of the running for me. I'm searching for some bread other than EneryG that I can eat. Because I have dh I also have to limit my iodine intake... -
ARCHIVED Confirm Of Protein In Urine
squirmingitch replied to Kryptonite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmmmm..... Not trying to steal the thread here but this may answer something I've wondered about. In Aug. of 2010 I went to the Primary Care doc for the once a year check up. There was microscopic blood in my urine. Went back & retested 3 times. Still microscopic blood. My hubby was going through bladder cancer at the time so this rang big bells with... -

I'm not trying to argue with you Lisa because I agree that there is so much more gluten-free food out there today than even a year ago but I get peeved at all the stuff labeled gluten free when it really isn't. It isn't tested, it is produced on shared equipment & so on & so forth. It's misleading. People keep sarong to me there are so many gluten... -
ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
squirmingitch replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Firstly, from what I understand you have to be eating gluten for a bare minimum of 1 month before the tests. Others here will come along no doubt & nail the amount of time & how much you have to ingest. And you said you were gluten-free for a month & then ate it for a week before the test. So right there it puts the test results in doubt. The... -

Absolutely. I understand. And even when I watch the news on TV it seems they have thrown the rules right out the window! And that's when I quit listening because their report has no merit in my opinion. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr -

Girl. And I did make A's but even the C & D students learned those rules of journalism. It isn't as if they were hard to remember! Heck, we were taught that in plain old English class. Every book report was to include those items. And I might be older than you. I'm 55. -

I agree IrishHeart, it's lousy reporting. Who, what, when, where, how & why is what I learned in school that every single piece of reporting should contain. Those were the rules. But I have seen most articles/reporting these days rarely contain 1/2 those items. Sad. -

Minefields! There are so many minefields with this disease. Half the time I feel like my brains have been scrambled with an egg beater trying to remember all the rules. How about making your own almond milk? Put it in the search box for the forum & it should come up how to make it. -

Yes Ciamarie, that would be a nice thing to have happen. But we all know the almighty $ reigns supreme. I imagine that once some babies get major problems from it they will make rules about baby formula. This is my personal pet peeve: Why are babies more valuable than adults? They will protect babies from poisoning but not adults (celiacs). To me, a human... -

I doubt it. They've know about it since at least 2007 & nothing has been done. It's 5 years later. If they were going to do anything they should have been on it a long time ago. -

Course, we could all just get IV's & walk around with our little bag of clear liquid feeding into our veins. Hey, then we wouldn't have to worry about where it was safe to eat! And I'm not going to tell you about the potatoes either. I eat a whole lot of them myself. -
