ARCHIVED Unresponsive Dh To Gluten Free Diet?
squirmingitch replied to CNV2855's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Whole foods. Screw the packaged foods. I MUST get used to eating for THE REST OF MY LIFE --- fresh fruits, veggies, & meats. Maybe some dried fruits & nuts such as Kind bars or Larabars. It's the only way I can be sure of anything at all. Also makes elimination a whole lot easier since there is less to eliminate. SIGH. -
ARCHIVED Herpes Outbreaks Since Stopping Gluten
squirmingitch replied to lulumonkey's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Think about make up, anything you use on your skin, lotions, shampoo, conditioners & how about those "treated kleenex?" -
Metoo, You might want to check in the doctor forum to see if there's a good Dr. in your area that others have had experience with. https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/6-celiac-disease-doctors/ If not, then try posting your location & telling that you need a good derm experienced in dh.

Thanks Mushroom for posting that. I wasn't able to find it.

Someone on one of these threads in dh posted a link to a site where it described in detail exactly how the biopsy is to be performed as well as what the derm should order specifically for the lab to do to the sample. I thought I bookmarked it but can not find it right now. I think the poster was Dianedliam but can't be positive. Will continue to look for...

Also, I would like to add that personally, for me, at this early stage of being gluten free, I ABSOLUTELY will not touch any of those products labeled "gluten free" UNLESS they also state that they are processed in a GLUTEN FREE FACILITY. There is NO WAY I want to take any chance of getting any CC from anywhere! I need to be completely itch free for a long...

But sea salt is high in iodine if he's trying to cut down on the iodine. Buy kosher, non iodized salt. Eat egg whites, apples, avoid all processed foods, eat beef, chicken, pork but not ham or bacon or sausage with a casing. I eat Jimmy Dean original pork sausage fully cooked patties. Eat fresh fruit & veggies. No spinach, lima beans, turnip greens...

ARCHIVED Photo Included...tell Me What You Think
squirmingitch replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Me too Metoo. That is what the dh on my hands looks like although I rarely get them on my palms or undersides of fingers. They occur mostly on the backs & sides of my hands & fingers. I think they are more painful on my hands than any other portion of my body. And that is how my dh first began but I have never been able to keep from popping the blister... -

Why do Doctors think that "rarely" means NEVER? It rarely occurs on the face or in children therefore that means the child DOESN'T have it? Or the adult with it on their face DOESN'T have dh? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Have a friend whose hubby had appendicitis --- in the ER --- Dr. said he was too old (45 yrs. old) to have appendicitis so that... -

Mosquito bites respond very well to Benadryl gel. Take it from a Floridian who deals with them 12 months of the year. Fire ant got me the other day & I put a cotton ball soaked with witch hazel on it (Benadryl doesn't work so well for fire ants) & held that on for about 3 minutes & viola'! GONE. The Orajel is around $9 for a little tube... -
ARCHIVED My Experience With Dh Lesions
squirmingitch replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Don't forget that iodine in dairy also comes from the use of iodine to cleanse the milking equipment as well as the udders of the cows. I called several organic milk/dairy companies & they said they also use iodine to cleanse just like the commercial non organic companies do. -

Dogs are allergic to wheat, corn & soy & ESPECIALLY the GLUTENS. Don't roll your eyes. I used to think that was hooey too! But I learned it is true. Too bad I had to learn on my dog. I don't know if they get celiac or not but they DO have problems related to consumption of wheat, corn & soy. You know those allergy symptoms so many people complain... -

Also weaselfish, another member (pricklypear) told me about Vanicream moisturizer & also Cromolyn cream made with the Vanicream. Open Original Shared Link I put it in the fridge & it cools as it goes on. No script needed. Available at your drugstore. At your stage though I would shower with the coolest water I could stand & then standing... -
ARCHIVED How Exactly Is Dh Diagnosed?
squirmingitch replied to The Horticulturalist's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I've not had any get infected since using the Orajel. You mentioned you were using something you got for Liam's sore throat --- maybe there's some other active (or inactive) ingredients in that which are causing you to get infections. The only active ingredient in the Orajel I'm using is 20% Benzocaine. I wouldn't scratch them. I break the blister &... -
ARCHIVED Afternoon Nightmare Itch?
squirmingitch replied to Di2011's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I can get breakouts any time at all. Granted, night is the very worst. Next is if I lay down for an afternoon nap. But I've had breakouts at any hour of the day or night. -

If you read the post about Orajel then check out the link Dianedliam posted because it contains info. which is especially important re: children. I don't think I would try it on large areas on a child of mine. Just IMO. The skin biopsy for dh has to be taken adjacent to an active lesion so that's a factor. But honestly, he has the diagnosis of celiac, you... -

Oh, & get rid of anything topical that has gluten in it. Shampoo, moisturizers, after shave, soaps, lip balms, all of it. Use only gluten free external products. Then check toothpaste, mouthwash, candies, breath mints, cough drops. Check meds & vitamins for gluten. Pets? Feed them gluten free food. Watch for cross contamination. I don't touch any... -

I've never been anywhere near a Smart Meter & I went through the same hell as everyone else here. for those who don't know what a Smart Meter is, It's a new fangled electric meter being installed here in the U.S. which they will be able to read remotely. No more meter readers coming to your house. Weaselfish, I feel for you. Been there, done that.... -
ARCHIVED Just Found Out It May Be Celiacs
squirmingitch replied to hspichke's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This is really hard to read because one has to move the page back & forth as the posts are running wider than the screen. The blisters are typical of dh & they itch like *&^%$&& & then some! And the places seem to get real hot or burning or stinging feeling. There is a 37% false negative return rate on the skin biopsy & that... -
ARCHIVED Just Found Out It May Be Celiacs
squirmingitch replied to hspichke's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi. I'm rather new here myself so your situation is sort of out of my league. I have dh & therefore have celiac disease. The celiacs with dh generally have less GI symptoms & damage because the disease manifests more in the skin. BUT that does not mean that in your case you don't have both. I really just wanted to tell you that these are a great... -

Maybe the post by eatmeat4good subliminally sent a message to my brain & that's what caused me to think of the Orajel. If so I heartily thank eatmeat4good! Thanks for the link & info. Diane. Not what I expected it to say as I thought this morning that I had better post something of a disclaimer for people to look up side effects before they try... -

I really hope this keeps up because I am LOVING it!!!!!!!! I even had a new blister come up on my leg this afternoon around 4 p.m. I broke the blister, put the Orajel on it & it hasn't itched since (a little over 4 hours later). BTW, I just happened to have the Orajel on hand as I had a tooth badly in need of a root canal & crown & I picked up...
