ARCHIVED Kids Cold/pain Products!
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This process is infuriating!! I spent an HOUR and 20 minutes at Walgreens going up and down the isle, reading labels and searching on my phone for gluten free cold meds/etc for children. I want to have my cabinet ready for cold season, we've already had a couple sniffles circulate! I get ibuprofen at Target (their brand) that is clearly labeled gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work And Biopsy
Mom-of-Two replied to lin7604's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I may be confused but why did they wait between Dec and now, with a positive blood test, to do a biopsy and begin the gluten free diet? Which tests did he have done, that were positive? My 8 year old had positive labs, and went on to have a NORMAL biopsy- but has been gluten free about 6 weeks or so. Some drs still believe the "gold standard" of the biopsy... -

ARCHIVED How Do You Tell If It's A Virus Or Gluten?
Mom-of-Two replied to dcns65's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Let me just add that I think some people have issues digesting certain gluten free flours- I found this true with things like pizza crust, and a gluten free tortilla that I tried a few months back. Just a thought! If others have been sick, there is a fever or overall icky feeling in addition to GI symptom, I would guess virus- and stomach bugs are really... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Everywhere At School
Mom-of-Two replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love the placemat idea! I agree, schools always push hand sanitizer and I do not feel it comes close to soap and water, it doesn't even touch viruses like the stomach bugs- they need to give these kids 3 minutes to use running water, good grief! Especially when you think about the fingernails, I just think soap and water is so huge for kids, and the hand... -
ARCHIVED Son Newly Diagnosed And So Frustratred Already (Long Post)
Mom-of-Two replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wonder myself actually if I have cross contamination symptoms. I have been gluten-free for 6 months and my antibody levels were WAY down, almost normal, at only 3 months gluten-free so I know I am being strict enough, also since then our house has become gluten-free per my doc's suggestion. So, I really expect my numbers to be normal when I go next month... -

ARCHIVED Son Newly Diagnosed And So Frustratred Already (Long Post)
Mom-of-Two replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please feel free to message me privately, I would happy to discuss this with you as my daughter is 8 also, and has been totally gluten free about 3 weeks now. It is incredibly overwhelming and I do not believe most people have a CLUE what it entails to provide a safe environment for a celiac kiddo, it is exhausting at times but being diagnosed with celiac... -
ARCHIVED Personal Care Products
Mom-of-Two replied to tctwhite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Organix line of shampoos and conditioners, all gluten free. I get them at Target. Love them all! Body wash is Dove sensitive, and I use either Dove or Secret deodorant, both gluten free. For lotion, we love CereVe which is all gluten free, we order that online but they sell at Walgreens, and sometimes you can ask the pharmacist at places like... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Mom-of-Two replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glad you got some answers! I would absolutely make your son gluten free as well, that inflammation is a red flag- BUT also make sure there are no other food allergies, my pediatric GI says that can cause inflammation in the guts of children too. My daughter had a tTG of 78 and also positive on endomysial antibodies, but a totally normal scope, not even inflammation... -
ARCHIVED Endoscope On Thursday
Mom-of-Two replied to jomakamcki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Every child responds differently to anesthesia and the procedure, it is very difficult to say how your child will respond. My 7 year old had her scope done back in May and it was way harder on me than her! She wasn't even nervous which surprised us, but the people at Children's hospital were fabulous! Showed her everything, including the mask that she... -
ARCHIVED Postive Blood Test, Negative Biopsy And Genetic
Mom-of-Two replied to NeedAVacation2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What were her positive blood work results? A full celiac panel? If it was only her tTG that was elevated and her level hasn't come down with gluten free diet, it either hasn't been long enough, she is still getting gluten someplace, or the elevated tTG could possibly be due to another autoimmune disease such as thyroid, diabetes, or liver disease. But in... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
Mom-of-Two replied to Henfanatic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this, my suggestion is take her back gluten free immediately and find out about iron infusions until her levels are adequate to continue with iron supplements. Make sure when she takes iron, it is with adequate vitamin C since it helps the iron absorb. I know how hard it is when doctors tell you different things, and... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Kids Mouthwash
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does Listerine actually say their rinses are gluten free? The Listerine one is what she was using, the Barbie one When it ran out was about the time she went gluten free so I was changing over many products. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Kids Mouthwash
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Listerine, Crest, ACT anticavity rinses for kids, can any of them guarantee they are gluten free? What do you all use on your celiac kids? I know Toms of Maine is a company that has gluten free oral care, and a gluten free anticavity rinse for kids, it looks like a strong mint flavor and I want to try it only if I have to, as my daughter isn't fond of... -

ARCHIVED Pasta
Mom-of-Two replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I started ordering Tinkyada online! WAY cheaper!! And many varieties as well, we order on Vitacost.com which has a great selection and amazing prices on gluten free foods. We are a gluten free home now and it took some time to get a gluten-free pasta my youngest (non celiac) would accept as "regular" pasta because he LOVES LOVES LOVES his pasta!!! Well, the... -
ARCHIVED Dunkin Donuts
Mom-of-Two replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not a coffee drinker, but love iced tea and get it often at DD- because it's on my way to drop kiddo at school, run errands, etc. I have never had problems with it, but have no idea yet quite honestly if I react to CC- I have been gluten-free for 6 months and not had an issue yet. My hubby asked me one day "do you think it is wise to get a drink from... -
ARCHIVED Latent Celiacs, What Advice Were You Given?
Mom-of-Two replied to AGH2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there! I appear to have a "latent" celiac kiddo as well- I had my kids tested back in April after learning I myself have celiac disease, in January. Just wanted to get a baseline on them, they didn't have abdominal symptoms. My 8 year old came back with a ttg of 78.20 so he sent her for a scope, which was totally normal, also 8 biopsy samples, very good... -

Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for explaining Starting school in a few days, just got her medical form updated and bag of safe snacks/treats ready for the classroom. Overwhelming but at least we are starting the school year off fresh. I am really just still in the shock/denial process that she has celiac disease just so surprised as she has never had stomach symptoms... -
I have eaten at Chipotle probably 20 times since my diagnosis and never had a problem. They immediately take gloves off, wash hands, and put new gloves on. I get a bowl, and they get a new container of cheese from the back, because they use gloves instead of utensils in the cheese. They are nice and accomodating and because of that, get lots of our business

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Showed Normal Bowel Does This Mean I'm Not Got Celiac
Mom-of-Two replied to Nenee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people have issues with gluten free products and flours. Especially when starting out, sticking to whole foods is a great idea. I have had bloating and such with gluten free grains like pizza dough, tortillas, etc and most recently some gluten free brownies that were made with garbanzo bean flour, etc. I do fine with rice flour and quinoa based pastas... -
ARCHIVED Please Explain Ema Testing
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So she still had 4 times what the dilluted titer was? I was just curious because my EMA result didn't have a number value, just positive. I was convinced when she came back Vitamin D deficient, because the girl 1) spends lot of time outdoors 2) gets adequate D in her vitamins and 3) eats very well, and also gets a vitamin D supplement year round except... -
ARCHIVED Please Explain Ema Testing
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you! I was just trying to understand her value of 1:40, how that was in relation to the 1:10 dillution they measured. Her biopsy slides were reviewed a second time by a different pathology, with this new GI- they found the same normal results. They are as follows: A. Esophageal biopsy, no diagnostic abnormality- Three fragments for testing. B. Gastric...
