  1. Yes, unfortunately, you do. I was gluten-free for 18 months quite successfully, but have been on gluten for two months now for testing. And you have to eat it for at least two months, preferably more. My blood tests were negative after one month, but positive after two. By the time my scheduled endoscopy/biopsy rolls around, I'll have been eating it for...
  2. So a very dear friend of mine from boarding school (who happens to have a peanut allergy) and I were joking around one day at dinner. I had my special food and I was telling the others at my table that you can actually buy powdered gluten in the store. The kid goes, "I'm gonna buy that and put it in your food." I looked right at him and said, "The peanut...
  3. So my gastro ordered an abdominal sonogram, which is being done today. He thought some of my symptoms could be gallbladder related, as I have a family history of gallbladder problems. Initially I only thought it was a gallbladder sonogram but apparently it's more than that. Assuming there's nothing else wrong, could the sonogram possibly pick up something...
  4. Just got home from the doctor. He doesn't think it's shingles, but instead diagnosed me with folliculitis, essentially a bacterial infection of the skin follicles. He deliberated for a while on DH, but didn't think it was given its appearance (looks like a mosquito bite, honestly) but really was unsure. Luckily, I see my dermatologist in a week and maybe...
  5. I admittedly thought of DH, but I thought that mainly itched, and if it was painful, it was secondary to the itch. This just hurts like hell.
  6. So today, I noticed what felt like sharp muscle pain in my left armpit. I have a history of shoulder problems, so I did some exercises, tried to loosen the muscle, etc. No luck. Midway through the day, I check to see if there's anything there, and sure enough, there are three, red, painful bumps in a nearly straight vertical line. They are extremely painful...
  7. Open Original Shared Link This totally made my day.
  8. This is interesting. My little sister has KP, I'll see if she'd try dairy free.
  9. No, actually, the guy is probably in his mid 70s, and was actually retired but agreed to come back two days a week because he is so popular.
  10. That is good to know...my GI doctor says the gliadin IGA/IGG only indicates gluten sensitivity not celiac. He also told me that non celiac gluten sensitive individuals can tolerate small amounts of gluten. I'm not so sure. It's been very validating to hear that I'm not making this stuff up, or exaggerating. I feel due to the progressive nature and...
  11. I wondered about that myself. Good to know!
  12. I know I've been posting a lot, but I wanted to get some opinions here. I'm 18 years old. All my life I've been very susceptible to infections. I always had ear and eye infections growing up. I had a stubborn staph infection in my junior year that wouldn't go away. I battle yeast infections every month. This year, I was diagnosed with an atypical...
  13. Yeah, I'm getting biopsied because the GI doctor thinks I should be. I'm also getting a gallbladder sonogram, because my family has a history of gallbladder problems. I also have been having lots of muscle pain and weakness, so they blood tested me for muscle inflammation and degeneration. I'm eating lots of gluten (usually in several different items...
  14. Yes, I have been tested twice...I was gluten free for eighteen months (self diagnosed), then ate it for a month, got tested, was negative, and ate it for another month. My doctor says I'm definitely gluten intolerant, but we don't know for sure if it's celiac yet. I go to see a GI doctor in a couple weeks and will get biopsied/endoscopied then. I'm definitely...
  15. Thank you for explaining that! I'm not sure if I am IgA deficient. The doctor didn't run a total IgA serum, at least not to my knowledge. Thing is, I match up to a lot of symptoms...chronic infections, etc. They did test TtG IgG and it was negative, as was the TtG IgA, I think. I haven't seen a copy of the results--the first time I was tested, the...
  16. So I'm curious...if a person is IgA deficient, is it possible that they could have a positive blood test on gliadin IgAs/IgGs, but test negative on tTg? Or would all tests be negative? My numbers were out of the normal range (on a scale of 0-15, mine were a 23 and 17 on gliadin IgAs/IgGs), but within normalcy on tTgs.
  17. I was self-diagnosed for a year and a half. Then I began eating gluten again so I could get an official diagnosis. It's been hell for the past two months, but it's worth it for me to know. We heavily suspect my grandmother had it, and I want my future kids to know there's a risk too. Also, the housing/food system at my school has to accomodate me if I...
  18. Sorry, I forgot to specify....they were gliadin IgA/IgG. My bad. They didn't tell me the ttG ones, but they were much lower the first time (4 point something and 1 point something). Oh Roxie! I hope you get better....I was in pt for almost two years following a shoulder injury from swimming. They really do help, but they make you work! It's refreshing...
  19. Aspartame and MSG give me horrible headaches, stomach upset, etc. I also have this problem with sugar/high fructose corn syrup. With MSG, I get this really nasty burning in my throat and I have this general feeling of being "disconnected" from the world around me.
  20. I haven't been to NH/StoryLand in ages, but I used to go when I was really little. It's an awesome park, if my memories aren't tinted by childhood. I wish I could be more help, but I went pre-gluten free! The only thing I can think of...if it's anything like small town Maine, there are often little health stores and those often have a surprising variety...
  21. Yes, I've done this. I'm especially eager because I leave for my freshman year of college on August 24th, and have a tentative family vacation earlier that month, and I'd really like to be feeling better for both of these events.
  22. I got the results of my second blood test (done after 2 months of eating gluten) and two of the four were "out of the normal range," aka greater than 15 and therefore assumably positive. While I don't know for sure, I believe they were IGA and IGG, coming in at 23.3 and 17 respectively. The nurse I spoke with on the phone wouldn't conclusively say they...
  23. Right. Those are the tests from one month ago...I got retested today/referred to a gastroenterologist about a biopsy. So I should find out my new levels by the end of this week. I've also been referred to a rheumatologist to try and figure out what else is wrong. I have a ton of other issues that are not resolved by gluten free living.
  24. So my allergist gave me the results of the old test (one month of eating gluten) and redid the test today (two months of eating gluten). Normal range on all: 0.00-15.00 Gliadin IgA: 13.30 Gliadin IgG: 8.78 tTg IgA: 4.82 tTg IgG: 1.13 I can't figure out a frame of reference. Does the presence of any of these antibodies signal a potential problem...
  25. Thank you! They said they only did four over the phone, but didn't tell me which 4, and I know there are a bunch.
