So my allergist ran a celiac blood panel on me a few weeks ago, and of course, the tests were negative. I had been eating gluten for roughly a month, which was what he told me, though I understand it probably should be longer (I am still eating gluten). I'm planning to talk to him about biopsies, further testing, and I also want to see a copy of my...

ARCHIVED Testing Question
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm thinking I will. I'm not sure I want to stay on gluten for 4-6 months..I already feel so miserable, and that would collide headlong with my first semester at college. I'll go to his office and ask to go over the test results. Any ones in particular I should look for? GSE? From my other research, isn't that another name for celiac? -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I'm at a loss too. Got the official call saying my tests were normal. No follow up...for whatever reason, my doctor doesn't do this. I can always make an appointment, or request a copy of the test. At this point, I feel stuck. I feel *awful* on gluten (D, stomach pain, gas, bloating, neuro-stuff, constantly either feeling starved or extremely full... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
GlutenFreeAustinite posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey everyone, I got blood tested for celiac after a month of gluten challenge last week. I called my doctor and some birdbrained nurse answered and she told me that "my numbers were within the normal range" on all four of the tests the clinic ran. I plan to call back tomorrow and clarify exactly what tests were done, but do y'all have any suggestions... -
ARCHIVED Immune System Issues
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is definitely good to know! Thank you! Given my history of infections, I'm thinking I'll explore the immune system stuff a bit more, but I'm glad to know that the mycobacteria isn't gonna give me a nasty pulmonary disease. -
ARCHIVED Chronic Infections - Anyone With Insight?
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to granolagal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm the exact same way. I have to take Diflucan after EVERY course of antibiotics, and I've gotten a yeast infection practically every month since I was twelve. I'm currently on a 6 month course of Diflucan (once a week dose) and I missed a dose, and sure enough, I started developing a blasted yeast infection. i've also had a history of infections... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Not That Bad
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to skbird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i'm on a gluten challenge too (for celiac, not EE). I had the same deal....I would eat a crumb of gluten and be in agony for days. It took me about a week on the diet to start feeling bad. I think it's because I overwhelmed my system with so much gluten, it went into shock and couldn't react to every piece of gluten passing through my system, whereas when... -
ARCHIVED Immune System Issues
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, interestingly enough though, my dermatologist said that typically celiac patients don't have problems with these sort of infections, and my nurse practitioner said my immune system was fine. Could it just be something the doctors wouldn't think to look for? -

I was gluten-free for eighteen months and had absolutely none of my former symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Immune System Issues
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Problem was, I was gluten-free when it developed, so I don't think that's it. I was gluten-free until about three weeks ago, when I started eating gluten as part of a test. I haven't noticed any real change in it from when I was gluten free. -
So I've been gluten-free for a year and a half, but have been on gluten for the past month of so as part of a diagnosis trial. In January, I noticed a boil on the lower part of my right leg that never fully healed, and resisted two courses of doxycycline. I saw a dermatologist this week, and she biopsied/cultured it, and barring anything that comes back...

So I can't remember if I was always this irritable before going gluten-free, but being on the challenge this month has made me much more irritable than I normally am. But that aside, has anyone ever had....I can't call them "hallucinations," but every so often, usually once or twice a day, I'll see something move out of the corner of my eye, and of course...

ARCHIVED Culver's Ice Cream
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to Rosebud710's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I eat their ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla are safe, as are the Flavor of the Days that don't have cookies or cake in them or something. I also do the mix-ins if they're candies I know are gluten-free. -

Pei Wei also has a great gluten-free menu. They're in Austin, and most cities in Texas, but I'm not sure if they are nationwide. -
ARCHIVED When Someone Asks, "how Can I Get That [Celiac]?"
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was always normal weight as a kid, and even as a teenager. I lost weight (20 lbs) when I was 15, but that was totally intentional. At the time, i did the South Beach Diet, which is pretty much a gluten-free diet in the first stages, which is where I lost most of the weight. I kept it off because I started swimming 5x a week, after I added bread/wheat... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Irish Heart, my doctor won't diagnose based on symptoms, sadly, though he does agree that it seems like I shouldn't be eating it. And the school I'm going to requires an official medical diagnosis before they can make accommodations. Not to mention, I'm only 18. I want to know if I have celiac disease, which has repercussions for fertility, and a host... -
ARCHIVED New Roommate Has Celiac
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to kristen93's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hope my roommates in August will be as thoughtful as you, Kristen! As someone living in a house with four gluten-eaters, it's entirely possible to be safe. My family cooks only gluten-free when I'm at home, and we always pick gluten-friendly places to eat out. Of course, there's no 100% guarantee of safety, but as long as you wipe up crumbs, wash pans... -

Yikes, those neuro symptoms sound super scary! o.O I've been weirded out all day because my symptoms seem to fluctuate. One minute I have a really bad stomachache, an hour later, nothing, just a grumbly stomach (though not due to hunger) and what I think is acid reflux. I've had really intense brain fog and inability to concentrate all afternoon. I... -
Anger, Quick Temper, Depression
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funnily enough, I'm on a gluten challenge this month, and I've noticed more irritability than normal. I've been on gluten for about three days, and my stomach hurts like normal, but I'm snapping at people easily. I do have an Irish Yankee temper, but I'm normally not this bad. -
ARCHIVED So Confused
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been eating quite a bit...I'm trying not to shock my system too badly in the first three days. Like today, I ate pita chips and two yeast rolls. I'll start eating more true bread product this week. I'm actually not too bad, and while I still have my stomachache, I can manage this for now. One big question I've always wanted to ask....how much... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's the plan....the reaction isn't fun now, but i have a feeling it will get worse. Psyllium fiber helped with that today, so I'll keep taking it, and hope it gets better. In my book, it's better than the opposite, but I don't like it. I'm not entirely sure. My doctor says the amount of time typically varies--anywhere from 4 weeks to three months... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The migraines are gone, yes, but they don't appear to be a consistent symptom of glutening...the few times I have gotten into gluten, I haven't had one. I do have a stomachache, but I typically have way, way, worse from much less gluten. That's what's odd--I'm definitely reacting, but it's much milder than normal. I have been eating more than one... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Migraine
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to Lady Eowyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went gluten free because of my headaches. They weren't quite like yours, but I'd get them every afternoon, like clockwork. They were always on the back of my skull, on the right side. Those lasted about a year, until I went gluten free, and they were gone. -
ARCHIVED So Confused

So, i'm 18 years old, been gluten free for almost 2 years due to migraines. After consulting with my doctor, I've started eating gluten again, until the end of May, so that I can be blood tested for celiac disease, with a possible biopsy. I've been back on gluten for two days, and my symptoms are surprising. Normally when I eat even small amounts of gluten...
