ARCHIVED This Is Starting To Scare Me
lisabp replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just in case one of the things she likes is chocolate (and she can tolerate dairy)...what got my son through when he was so sick was milk with lots of ovaltine. It has vitmains in there and it goes down very easily and tastes great. You can probably mix it with soy milk too (I don't remember if there is dairy in the ovaltine...) we find it in the coffee... -
What worked great for us (2 1/2 year old) when he got glutened recently was some of the infant mylicon drops. His bloated tummy dropped right back down and he wanted something to eat within 30 minutes. Lisa P

ARCHIVED Recovery Time
lisabp replied to jadesmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was diagnosed at about 18 months too. Same "toddler tummy" thatr just kept getting bigger. His mood was better in 1 week and his appetite in 1 month, but the tummy took a long time to disappear. It took more like 4 months to go down to where you didn't really notice anything was wrong and probably 6 months to completely look normal. His weight... -
ARCHIVED 11 Month Old Slowly Starving To Death
lisabp replied to amicamom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had the "Ethiopian look" at 18 months and had not grown for about 4-5 months. We had done ultrasounds of his stomach to see if there was a growth there or what. Then his blood test cam back positive for celiac, the endoscopy was "classic" celiac and we went gluten-free the next day. He never had the bad diapers, but he had weeks where he would throw... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until Improvement?
lisabp replied to rachie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can tell you what happened with us. My son was iagnosed at 19 months. Within 1 week he simply wasn't crying all the time. At 2 weeks he was acting happy again. At one month he finally had a reasonable appetite. Now, at 2 months gluten-free, he is back to his old nickname "food man". If he's awake, he's eating. He is back at his chart before all this... -
ARCHIVED Another Poop Question!
lisabp replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for asking this question! My son's BM's were actually OK when he was eating gluten (maybe enought passing though still whole acting as a glue??) but it's been 2 months and his BM's are all still pasty. I know that he hasn't gotten any gluten. My son is almost 2 and we talked to his pediatrician and she wasn't worried at this age as long as the... -
ARCHIVED First Visit To Gastro Doc
lisabp replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For our visit we confirmed that our sone was "classic celiac" and the doctor told us to keep feeding him some gluten until the biopsy which luckily was scheduled for less than a week away. We also got his weight and height. That was it. -
ARCHIVED Could My Daughter Have Celiac? Constant Hunger
lisabp replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just to let you know what you can or may expect after going gluten free (and get those tests done ASAP-have your family doctor call in the blood test to the lab or fax it over and go in tomorrow for that-it may take a week or so to get it back and then get on the cancellation list-it got us in a ,onth early). My little guy was diagnosed at 19 months,... -
ARCHIVED What's The Biopsy Like?
lisabp replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son (20 months old) had his biopsy one month ago. I was worried too and it indeed was nothing. Since he didn't have any appetite keeping him from eating was not a big task. The worst part was waiting to go into surgery and THEN having the IV in his hand after was driving him crazy. Have whatever clear liquids your daughter likes best ready after and... -

ARCHIVED Toddler Just Diagnosed-please Help
lisabp replied to scotties-mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow! You really have to keep a look out. That list posted before was gluten AND casein free. I have a print out in front of me, also dates March 1, 2005, of gluten free items from the Frito Lay website and now I can't find that page. (it lists 19 different kinds of Doritos, by the way, including cooler ranch). I have a bag of Spicier Nacho Doritos... -
ARCHIVED Toddler Just Diagnosed-please Help
lisabp replied to scotties-mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You guys have the greatest answers. I was also rather lost amonth ago when I had to start this. Our whole family is now gluten-free as my husband is positive and my daughter and I are fine eating gluten-free. She has her stash of Cheerios and that's it. The main suggestion that I would make is to just concentrate on regular food that is naturally gluten... -
ARCHIVED I've So Had It With Doctors!
lisabp replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you have about $400 to spend, go to the Enterolab site and order the stool sample test. You'll just collect (and freeze) at least 1/2 a cup of stool samples and send them off and then 3 weeks later you'll get an email with the test results. Your insurance might or might not may for it (I still havr to send mine in to insurance). With that (or maybe... -
ARCHIVED To Test Or Not To Test?
lisabp replied to Gosiasamosia708's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have!!! to get her tested. My son did the same thing and would only eat drinkable yogurts and milk with Ovaltine for days at a time. So that you know there is hope...we were lucky to have a positive blood work result on a Thursday night, already had an appointment with the pediatric GI the next day (get on their calcellation list and you do NOT... -
ARCHIVED Danimals Dinkable Yogurt Gluten Testing
lisabp replied to lisabp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OK...so I had to keep reading what was here. This whole thing is probably turning moot since as my son is less and less scared to eat, he is eating less and less Dannon yogurt. He actually ate for an hour last night and 45 minutes tonight just before bed. YEAH!!! Now I just have to figure out what to do about his loose BMs. I guess there's no ... -

ARCHIVED Danimals Dinkable Yogurt Gluten Testing
lisabp replied to lisabp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is only 19 months old and he is scared to eat most things. He needs to get some calories somehow. Spending $20 plus the cost of 5 sets of 8 yogurts ($25) is $35. That's much better than spending $5 a pop for 4 gluten-free smoothies that he then doesn't eat and I have to throw away. I'm glad that I have the time and money to give my son his favorite... -
ARCHIVED Danimals Dinkable Yogurt Gluten Testing
lisabp posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was just diagnosed celiac disease less than a month ago and up to then his absolutely favorite food, and the only thing he would eat sometime for a week, is Danimals Banana Drinkable Yogurt (he will put up with the Vanilla only because it come sin the same package and that's sometime all that is left). I tried everything else out there that is officially... -
ARCHIVED Playdough
lisabp replied to JacobsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here's a recipe that someone else posted on another thread here and my daughter (not celiac disease but a great help to her little brother) and I made some batches this weekend. Open Original Shared Link Actually, first we got out all the old playdough and threw it away and then we washed the old containers and cutters and such in hot soapy water... -

Our chef has prepared a sample gluten-free menu for your son. The following menu may vary depending on what is fresh and available to our chefs when you arrive in December...

ARCHIVED My Son Has Cd
lisabp replied to fatherof4yearold's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wish you had a Whole Foods near where you are. I went shopping there today and came home with gluten-free fish sticks, chicken nuggets and pizza (all frozen). The pizza was Amy's brand and it was just cheese (and kind of skimpy at that) so I aded a whole lot of topppings when I made it and it was really very good. My husband liked it better than regular... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?
lisabp replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to admit if my daughter and I (the non-celiac disease ones) really liked bread and tons of pasta, it would be a different story. We just don't like them too much (she wants hamburgers and hot dogs without buns anyway). We would prefer a meal of potatoes, veggies and maybe a bit of meat. She doesn't even like birthday cake. Now if I had to keep... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?
lisabp replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a 19 month old who was just doagnosed 3 weeks ago and we found out yesterday that Dad is celiac disease too. That just leaves me and my daughter (5 yrs old). I am really lucky since she eats like she's on Atkins by choice. She really does not like much bread at all. I have gone to a gluten free kitchen and kept it that was for 2 weeks and then...
