ARCHIVED Intro With Lots Of Mixed Emotions
RuskitD replied to Kallismom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Likely you have heard the saying weight loss mantra "nothing tastes as good as thin feels". I have altered that to be "NOTHING tastes as good as Healthy Feels". Seriously! I all my life, I have had stomach/colon issues, as did my dad. I would say I had a delicate system. At least once a month for as long as I can remember I 'ate something wrong' and... -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Who Are Grain Free
RuskitD replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I went gluten-free and was doing well on other grains. Within one month, I began having symptoms of glutening, only they came from gluten free grains. I do not believe it was CC. My 'dear diary' and elimination/reintroduction diet showed me that my body HATED corn and soy. Rice was iffy. So I quit all grains, and all forms of them. Even sweet corn! Also... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party, Frustration, How To Lose Weight?
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I quit getting email notifications on my thread, so I was surprised to come in here and see more replies. Wow, the timing is incredible! Thank you all for the support and encouragement. I know many have been where I am, and you know the frustration. I am not normally a 'down' person (since being gluten-free!) but I have my moments. It really helps to hear... -
Yes, I too lost a lot of my life to gluten. Of course, I didn't realize it until reading about celiac, and the light bulbs went off in my head. (of course THAT could never have happened, had I not went gluten-free! I couldn't think while eating gluten!) My parents were poor farmers and we never had health insurance. In one way, that life saved me, because...

ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Weight Loss Story- 80 Lbs Down
RuskitD replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Autumn, congratulations on your loss!!!! Your story is the type I read here, that gave me hope initially about losing my weight. I had hoped when the inflammation was gone, I would melt it away. Sadly, that isn't happening for me. I am doing exactly as you, but without the success. I didn't run to processed gluten free foods. I ate little processed... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party, Frustration, How To Lose Weight?
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
JNBunnie1, thank you for your reply and idea. Something else for me to work on. Tho, may I ask, what if I cannot get easy access to organic? Think the same may happen if it isn't organic? I understand the importance of staying away from grains, especially GMO, and even if they are 'processed' through an animal. I just haven't found an affordable source locally... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party, Frustration, How To Lose Weight?
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for the answers thus far! You are so wonderful to come in and try to help me!!!! I truly need all the answers I can get. Thyroid... I wondered. i am without health insurance for the next 3 months, but if I see no response in feeling better by then, I am going to beg the doctor to run the tests. I consume no sugar, and I quit tea and coffee... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party, Frustration, How To Lose Weight?
RuskitD posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is partly a whine, and mostly begging for someone to give me a clue as to what I can do to improve my life, and get some of this weight off, and have some energy!!!! I haven't had a good nights sleep in 3 weeks, so this is adding to my mental state of depression. I went from sleeping like a baby, to suddenly cannot fall asleep or stay asleep. Two... -
ARCHIVED The Chronicles Of Pooping
RuskitD replied to Homerhurts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We all poop. Yes, we were raised that proper people do not discuss such private matters. Though if you share home with someone, and get emergency "D", it makes it quite difficult to keep private matters private!!!! LOL I agree with the logging diary of foods and how you feel each day. This has totally helped me in tracking down repeat offenders, and NEVER... -
ARCHIVED Problems After Eating?
RuskitD replied to confusedandlost's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I lived with that pain, until I went gluten free. I didn't know how good it felt to be without it! Right there in your forehead! I know the spot! With me, my first sign of UT OH is a gurgling tummy. Then the pain in the forehead, and then a mass of symptoms in the next few hours. I found they were not just signs of gluten, but now I have had to eliminate... -
I feel your pain! I have kept a good spirit throughout the process, but for me its has seemed three steps forward and one back, which is frustrating me. I personally took the route of eating only a few things that I knew were safe for me... eggs, chicken, non-gassy veggies... then adding in something else, one item at a time. If there was no reaction,...

I am so sorry to hear you are still suffering! I know the pain! I have been gluten-free for a month. This last week my body suddenly, out of the blue decided it would force me to also go corn free. I think the suffering was worse than when I was crashing on gluten and not knowing why! I found relief with a Rolaids type product that contains calcium, magnesium...

ARCHIVED What's Worse During The 1St Year: Fasting Or Overeating?
RuskitD replied to Finally-45's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A philosophy? I am not sure. Fasting was preached to me for healing, after dx. But I felt I had already done that with my health 'crash'. I suffered "D" for 6 weeks straight, every half hour, whether I ate or not. The first 4 weeks, I *gasp* nibbled crackers all day to put SOMETHING in my stomach, to absorb the acid I knew I suffered from. Then I just... -

ARCHIVED Don't Know Much......new
RuskitD replied to vella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Vella! Welcome to the board!!!! The greatest place for support and info on the net! I am new also, without a dr confirmed diagnosis. But the info I found here helped me find my own diagnosis and saved me months (or years) of further suffering. I can't answer about the autoimmune diseases ? But I can say I experienced some pretty heavy withdrawals... -

ARCHIVED Celiac & Smoking Cigarettes
RuskitD replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Logic says smoking would slow down healing. The chemicals we ingest by smoking, our bodies must attack and remove from our system, just as the body does when we ingest gluten. The more things our body has to fight at one time, the harder its going to be for it to fight effectively. Putting a bigger stress on our system, slowing healing. That being said... -
ARCHIVED 'laramar' Bars Recipes, Easy And No Bake!

Being gluten free has led me to delights I would have never tried. One of them being Laramar bars! I stumbled upon a website where a lady perfected making them at home. BEWARE!!!! ARCHIVED Newbie Wants To Say Thank You
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am glad my words were of some comfort to someone! I have always been a people pleaser, or at the least, always there for others. (I was raised by a narcissistic mother, and trained from the start to please others to be able to get along with them) Even when I had no strength or energy. I spent what I had on taking care of others, leaving nothing for... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Wants To Say Thank You
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you again and for the warm welcome!!!! I had the best afternoon of a couple years yesterday! For a few hours I was energetic and clear headed, and giddy because of that feeling! I do owe it to every poster here! Those who asked questions and those who helped them find the answers! Which also became my answers! I am far from 100%... Whoa, wait... -
Bubba's mom, I am new here, and have little to offer you, but a hug! Your story is ripping out my heart. Because I 'crashed' myself, in January, before figuring out on my own that I cannot eat gluten, the memory of the weakness and hopelessness is still very fresh in my mind. I wonder how you are able to force yourself to do all you are doing now! My...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Diet Already, Do I Really Need Testing?
RuskitD replied to RuskitD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you researchmomma and ravenwoodglass for your time in posting your replies and insights!!!! Those replies are exactly what I was looking for, very informative!!! Its eye opening that some ins companies won't cover you if you were diagnosed! I pondered that possibility! I knew many things could be used as pre-existing, and keep you from coverage,...
