  1. Cujy I would stay away from the expensive "gluten free" stuff. Eat very simply for a week and see if your gloating and gas improves. What's wrong with your kidney? Lisa LOL you made me laugh. I can't ditch the cheese either. I suspected I might have a degree of lactose intolerance for a year or two before being dx'd in Feb. I find that I can...
  2. I feel for you Sweetie, but honestly if he doesn't know that croutons are bread, he may not be capable of understanding diets. The other possibility is more cynical but it's possible he is simply more interested in what he wants than what you need. I would make an attempt to have another conversation with him stressing how much you enjoy his company...
  3. My daughter lives in Marin County Ca. She pays $75.00 a week for about an hour and a half. Sometimes it's one cleaning person, sometimes two. Some days they are in and out in an hour and twenty minutes, sometimes it's two hours. Of course they have no health care, paid vacation or sick time. There is no union to go to bat for them if they are summarily...
  4. Rice Guy, I'm with you. That's one strange image. A real fan of horror fiction, I could put forth some theories, the least disturbing of which would be the undeveloped conjoined twin thingie. It does vaguely resemble other humanoid pieces-parts which I decline to name. LOL. What a great diversion!
  5. Lisa, Maybe I didn't express myself very well. Sarah said she was diagnosed by an upper GI so I thought something new was being done. I am aware of the standard methods of diagnosis. I had a highly positive antigen test, followed by a diagnosis of Dermatitis Herpetiformis and Hashimoto's. The clincher of course is the response to the diet which I have...
  6. Skylark I can't thank you enough for you efforts to help me. I am convinced that it is indeed the iPhone. I am not seeing many of the references, like my name on the page, options, etc. There is an "Option" at the bottom of the page to download an IP.Board app for phone but the link doesn't work. I am determined to make the best of it and ride it out...
  7. Desperate I just wanted to say how I admire your earnest effort to do the right thing for your health AND your gracious appreciationof some good friends' efforts to host you. I am into this gluten-free about 2 mos and have glutened myself maybe 3 times (not real sure) thru carelessness and once, thru what I can only describe, as a major senior moment...
  8. Charlotte I am sorry you are getting no improvement in 4 months. I am not one of the experts here. What are your worst symptoms? Do you have the Dermatitis Herpetiformis or Hashimoto's thyroid too? How did your vitamin panel come out? Were you gluten-free when the biopsy was done? These are all things to know. To my knowledge the biopsied samples are...
  9. Kareng Lol Hahahaha
  10. Oops I hit reply too quick. I was so excited about a possible new diagnosis method. WELCOME SARAH! I have been coming here just 9or 10 days and have learned soooo much. The regulars here are well informed, current and very generous with their time. This is the best celiac site on the web. I sort if fumbled on my own for a month or more and when...
  11. Celiac can be diagnosed with an upper GI? Do you happen to know how exactly? This would be much easier than being heavily drugged for a biopsy.
  12. Birdie Hmmm. I am taking a typical Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc supplement. Your post made me do some research. Thanks so much. :-) I am probably going to start taking them at different times and also taking more magnesium just before bed. May I ask what specific symptoms you were able to treat?
  13. Metoo, Wow! Your levels have been worse than mine. Mine was 19 six weeks ago. I am taking 5,000 units a day. It's good to know that the symptoms are so strongly correlated to the D levels. Keep me posted. I'd love to hear how you are doing. I am getting B12 shots once a month and taking 2500 sublingual a day. The symptoms of low B12 are many and...
  14. Thanks for the info everyone. I grabbed a bottle of something at the health food store last week and will try one of the suggested brands. Cathey, thanks for the pep talk and encouragement. It really does help. I recently read that acid reflux, which I suffered with for years, can be caused by LOW acid as well as too much. I have noticed almost as soon...
  15. GFAustinite I feel your pain. Literally. I am very low in vitamin D and B12 among others. My thyroid is low. My celiac was diagnosed in Feb and the Hashimoto's in March. I am taking mega supplements and a starter dose of thyroid hormone. So far still exhausted, zombie-like, in muscle and joint pain, depressed, moody as !%#, eyebrows half gone, etc....
  16. gluten-free in DC Dude! You are awesome! Period. I am on my way to check out all of your posts. I feel so lucky to have found a forum with such terrific, bright members.
  17. Peter I just today started looking at all the evidence for iodine triggering the DH stuff! I am currently cooking and seasoning food with Kosher salt but using "Iodized table salt" sparingly as I dont want to go totally without. I am going to really pay attention to the DH reactions to try to figure it out. All of these things are so NEW to me as...
  18. I wonder what causes withdrawal symptoms from gluten. I guess I am fortunate I had none. The carbs I deleted by going gluten-free I just naturally made up for by eating more rice, corn and even some sweets. ( Mind you, this was not from any logical nutritional decisions but, rather, my tendency to indulge myself because I was feeling "deprived.". LOL...
  19. Cugy I just cannot believe your bad luck! I swear it seems you have encountered every rude, ignorant, lazy, unprofessional, mean-spirited, argumentative person in the field. I would be devastated to run Into even a couple of these nasty folks in the course of a year! You poor thing. You must feel like you have a big ol' red target painted on your...
  20. Thanks kereng I think you are right. My only online connection just now is my iPhone. I did all my Christmas shopping on it last year! I just hate missing anything on this terrific site. I know that I can't access things that require Flash. That's an Apple decision that I hope changes with the next version.
  21. I am having problems navigating and wonder if it's my baby-boomer granny brain or my iPhone. I have never seen a Help button. I can't figure out how to get to my profile. I admit to being a tad slow now and then but usually with patience I can figure out a new site or app. Could be my Celiac/HD/Hashi's has rendered me stupid I suppose. :-) Any suggestions...
  22. As I am still in the first few weeks of being gluten free I am anxious to do what I can to promote intestinal health. I am working on the belief that longterm celiac disease has caused considerable damage to my gut, I am desperate for information on the benefits of Probiotics, your experiences, etc. I started with just cultured buttermilk, yogurt, sauerkraut...
  23. LOL Y'all are clever and funny. A great combination! I love sardines and have been craving them. Maybe need Omega3's?
  24. Bubba's Mom It's funny you suggested the fish oil. I have been craving sardines for a while now. My favorite Tiny Tots brand is a little pricey so I will certainly look into the fish oil supplement. I will still splurge on the sardines once a week! Luckily my husband loves them too so the temporary cat food breath isn't so offensive. :-) Thanks for...
  25. I found an OTC calcium, magnesium, zinc supplement in the back of my cabinet and it was several years past the shelf date. Have read hundreds of supplement labels and no gluten. There are also many highly sensitive people on this forum and don't seem to have problems with contamination. My Dr did say he heard that Amour Thyroid (a natural dessicated T...
