42 I don't even know how to respond to your post. It hurts my heart to imagine the situation you are in. There are people here with multiple allergies who can provide information and support. Im still a newbie myself but have learned so much on this forum. I wish you all the luck in the world. And WELCOME

WELCOME ChuGotItDood You are ver resourceful to have this board so soon. Its wonderful! I've been here for 13 days and am grateful for every one of them. So, 3 days gluten free, huh? Good for you. Are you totally confused, worried, sad? Or thrilled to pieces to learn of a disease with all those diverse symptoms that you've been suffering from? ...

Two places come to mind for me. Keep in mind I'm a newbie and just a tad naive. I was shocked, yes shocked to find that my Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc supplement had wheat in it. Yeah I know. My Dr was surprised! Duh. The second was in a bag of cashews my cousin was munching on and offered. A quick glance at ingredients said "cashews and salt.". Two hours...

ARCHIVED I Am So Lucky To Have Celiac Disease!
JustNana replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sweet Mitzi Thank you sooo much. I've been gluten-free only 7-8 weeks and have sabotaged myself accidentally a time or two. It is very heartening to hear about your last year. I can't remember what it felt like to be energetic, even-keeled emotionally, pain free, etc. But I know I did! At my age, (mid 60's) I'm not expect g miracles, just some... -
Olivia, I swear the people on this site have heard and seen it all...ignorant public, thoughtless friends and family, even dumbazz doctors. They are skeptical but open minded. You are Sooooo lucky you found this forum. It is THE best forum I have ever read, bar none.

Olivia, Oh my. I totally get it. You are not weird to say your big concern is time. There are fast food options. In and Out Burger is happy to serve you a cheeseburger protein style, wrapped in lettuce with all the fixin's. Their fries are SAFE! Grab a chicken and bake it. Get a loaf of Udis bread. Make salads with protein. Make a sandwich....

I read that goofy blog. Sorry, but when they start saying they know what causes MS...blah blah blah - my BSometer sounds an alarm. Are these sincere but gullible people or just trolls? Ugh

Hey Bubba's mom How's it goin?

squirmingitch I have Dermatitis Herpetiformis too. And also very recently diagnosed Hashimoto's. (Autoimmune hypothyroidism) With a growth! Oh yippee. A biopsy was negative but it bears watching. I was put on the standard low dose T4 only Levolyx. This may be a battle. My FT3 is low TSH is high, I'm tired itchy, crabby, my eyebrows are falling out...

Moose Say what? Monklady, I have written my will, gathered my kin and sharpened my hari-kari knife. This will NOT stand. Plus I ain't buyin' it. The whole gluten free community is so big now that we are a marketing force! (That's a good thing). If coffee had been discovered to be dangerous to celiacs it would make the 6:00 AND 11:00 news....

Olivia The old Irish chick is right. Right now, what are you most apprehensive about? Do you think going gluten-free is going to be too hard? Are you afraid you'll give up all the things you love and not feel better? Are you concerned your family and friends are going to think you're weird? All this and much more? Go ahead, let it out. We're...

It's called Best Foods Canola!

Alex, I have used the Beat Foods (Hellman's in the east). It's good! I love Mayo and ONLY Best Foods. (Hellman's where you live) If it's not on your grocer's shelf, betcha could order it online! Happy slathering. :-)

Squimingitch LOL We could start a fan club....but Irish would probably be mortified. I'm thinkin' that we can honor her and Skylark and ...so many others on here whose names I cant recall, by asking questions, doing independent research, sharing our findings and experiences and most of all my being supportive of other newbies. I'm almost 2 mos into...

pricklypear Ahhhhh well, that makes sense. Yes it is an old stainless one, but maybe I'll get a new plastic one to keep it company! Thx

Enjoying everyone's pet tales. Hubby and I are grieving the loss of our last beloved lab. Not quite ready to get another... But soon. A question just occurred to me. I bought a new cutting board and wooden spoons yesterday and didn't replace my colander. It's an old dented thing but we go way back and I hate to retire it. If my knives and spoons...

Irish Warrior Princess ROTFLMWBO. (wrinked) Yes, I'm a newbie. I have a good feel for you as a person from reading lots of your posts. It's odd actually that I got the mistaken impression you were a dude! Shoulda known a wise woman voice when I heard it. It's always laced with wit and a wink. :-)

Oh one more thing yolk, PF Changs has dedicated equipment because they don't want to risk a big fat lawsuit. So many places and products won't use the term gluten-free because we live in this litigious society. I guess it's a CYA kind of thing. :-D
-
Yeah, I think Marilyn was respectful too yolo. It is, of course, important for us to make nice on this board. But an honest disagreement, especially based on some level of research, isn't a reason to be defensive. I have noticed a slight tendency from a couple of folks here to just nod and agree with everyone's opinions, whether documented or not...

Irish I didn't realize that the dairy issue could be so important for a newbie. I sure don't want to steer someone wrong. I know I am lucky.
-
Irish *on my knees, much bowing and scraping* I'm not worthy... What an amazing, brilliant, generous post! You are a scholar and a gentleman, Sir. I'll bet you just made Olivia's day. Pssst-Olivia (and saved your untold hours of on your own info gathering) I am thrilled with the info regarding buckwheat cereal. I am ordering some today. And...

Kareng, LOL same here. But after researching I conclude that dairy is fine for some Celiacs. Lactose intolerance is an uncomfortable nuisance for most people, not a real health issue if you are cautious and not super sensitive. Yes, I know, some folks really suffer as they are quite ill from even small amounts. Not minimizing anyone's pain.
-
Olivia, Welcome. The people here understand how overwhelming it is when diagnosed with celiac (no s) disease. I'm just 8 weeks in. I'm still eating dairy. The only products I use that are special Gluten Free are Udis bread for toast in the morning, Crunchmasters crackers which are way better than Triscuits or Wheat Thins for dip and spreads and the...

ARCHIVED Gfd Making It Very Hard To Stay True!
JustNana replied to Cujy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cujy Oops "bloating." I'm sure you aren't finding a lot to "gloat" about these days.
