  1. Yes, definitely anesthesia. I refuse all morphine related pain meds after I freaked out on dilaudid once.
  2. I think you will be fine. I was gluten-free for almost 5 months, then went back on gluten (only 1 serving a day) for 2 months before my endoscopy, which showed mild celiac.
  3. I am a post-anesthesia puker. So, I asked for antinausea drugs and they put them in my IV after the prodecure! I ate on the way home, told my husband the same story over and over again, and slept the rest of the day. Don't expect to do anything afterwards.
  4. I have used my medical insurance extensively (ha!) and never been denied/not covered on a laboratory charge. So, I was just wondering if this was something that was common before I call.
  5. I expected to pay a bit out of pocket for my endoscopy, and have no problems with the $150 that the gastro's office is expecting. But, my insurance company only chipped in $25 to the histology lab, leaving me on the hook for $350 (in addition to the $150 above)! Does that sound right?
  6. All my vitamin levels are fine and I eat a limited about of dairy already. I didn't realize that antibodies would change after being gluten-free.
  7. Vega! gluten-free, dairy free, and soy free.
  8. I am mostly dairy free and avoid processed soy. So, I feel your pain here. But, I snack all the time. Air popped popcorn with salt or other seasoning (almost every night). Dried fruit with nuts (dried plums and (i think) dried apricots have no added sugar. Suzie's corn, quinoa, and sesame thin cakes with avocado or nut butter. Apples with nut butter...
  9. I was dx with celiac based on antibodies in March. I was gluten-free for 4 months with no improvements (actually felt terrible), so went back on gluten for 2 months to do an endoscopy. Endoscopy was positive. I DO NOT have GI symptoms. My only symptoms are tingling (I would call it neuropathy, but it is not in my extremeties). And, they are not consistent...
  10. THANKS EVERYONE for your replies. Got my results back from the endoscopy. It says "celiac" . BLAH! My Gi doc noted that the damage was very minimal/minor. So, hopefully we caught this early and I will be able to repair the damage quickly.
  11. Thanks Everyone for your thoughts. The frustrating thing is going from feeling fine on my regular diet for years except random tingling in my body at night to then cutting out gluten (aka a good thing) and being completely miserable and sick. And the random tingling still being around. And, I do mean RANDOM. Like, it has disappeared for months at...
  12. I appreciate all of your replies. I still feel unsure about my initial question. I never really though of it this way. The fact that my symptoms (neuropahty) never went away, and somewhat intensified after a few month of being gluten free, I was assuming that it was not celiac. Now I am kind of pissed that it may be gluten + something else. Crap...
  13. Sorry, I guess I should have been more descriptive.. First, I have been eating a whole foods plant based diet for over 3 years. No meat, no processed foods (except pasta), and no bread or bakery products. Limited dairy (less than 1 cup milk per day, cheese a few times a week), limited whole soy products (2 times a week). My only "gluten" intake was...
  14. Long story short, I have the EGD in 2 weeks after getting a positive antibody blood test, being gluten-free for 4 months and being SO SICK (i.e. worse than while eating gluten), and going back to gluten (YAY! Feel better). My celiac "symptoms" (which are not gastrointestinal) have never gone away. Anyway, I have read that some food allergies (soy and...
  15. I got some fabulous looking gluten-free, whole-food, vegan baked good recipes from a friend of a friend. The few I have tried rise so nicely in the oven, yet fall when removed to cool, leaving tasty, but small and dense cakes and cupcakes. Any suggestions? Most are made with oat (gluten-free), garbanzo bean, and coconut flours. They have baking powder...
  16. Kat - I agree with your doctor that you don't need to quit training due to celiac. Post run fatigue is most often from overtaining. How many days a week are you running? What do your weekly short runs look like. In my younger days, I was able to run 5 - 6 days a week and be fine. Now, in my 30s, I only do 3 days a week of running. Two short rund mid...
  17. Tirosint is awesome! And it comes in blister packs so no room for x-c and it will remind you that you forgot to take it on Thursday.
  18. Wendybird - I have had "hypothyroidism" for 13+ years. When originally dx, and I think a few other times along the years, I have had the antibody test it always showed no hashimoto. Last year, when I started having neurological symptoms (2.5 years into permanent surgical menopause with NO hormone replacement) my antibodies were tested again and they were...
  19. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL! I am the same way. I have no idea how careful I have to be. I do have symptoms (tingling), but not right away, and it is really hard to pinpoint what the culprit is. Besides that, I do feel - mentally - a million times better being gluten-free. However, is the accidental glutening or cc going to reverse that? I don't know...
  20. I am searching for gluten free vegan sausages. Anyone?
  21. Thanks Everyone!
  22. Silly me. Didn't ask what was in the soup that was a new recipe at a favorite restaurant. Is there anything I can do to lessen the reaction? I assume no.
  23. I haven't had to deal with this since gluten-free, but I have a TON of times as a vegetarian. My company does a lot of catered in, buffets, and dinners out with small menus. I try to coordinate with the planner ahead of time, if I know the person (like my department's admin). Otherwise, I show up early and talk to the first server I find. Bring it up...
  24. I am a quinoa girl myself, but the family loves rice, especially wild rice. All the wild rice mixes that are gluten-free are not that great. So, I have made it a few times from scratch. I suck at cooking rice, apparently. Plus, it takes FOREVER and I just don't have that kind of time after work. Can anyone recommend a rice cooker that I can cook...
