  1. Yes, I'm talking to myself now, but perhaps some other enginerd type person like myself is interested as well. Ok, this info now has me wondering how many celiac folks have some form of colitis. Seems that given the transit time of the colon, surface area of the colon and that gluten can make it's way there undigested that there would be a large number...
  2. And here's some info I've found in a quick search on transit time in the GI, no wonder I've got proctitis. Given the transit time (estimated/average) the gluten I might ingest and react to is in the colon (30-40 hours) a long time. Here's some info: Open Original Shared Link

  4. Hey, guess what I get to answer my own question... Open Original Shared Link It appears that the rectal tissue can be affected by gluten, at least I think this is what it's saying: What is also interesting is to not the time frames. Given that it takes some time to get to the rectum via the GI and given the times until reaction and reactions...

Given that it takes some time to get to the rectum via the GI and given the times until reaction and reactions are over, no wonder it's so difficult to pinpoint where...
  6. Yep, I drink the peppermint herbal tea from Stash.
  7. Well look here: Open Original Shared Link
  8. Yeah, I've been trying to figure out if the Costco brand microwave bacon has gluten in it or not. I called them, but they haven't returned my call. Guess I gotta call them again.
  9. Gary, is your constipation symptoms at all like the symptoms in this thread? Open Original Shared Link Have you had a colonoscopy? Did they take biopsies of your colon? Mike
  10. I agree, and the reaction to lactose is a completely different one from gluten intolerance. At least in me. Gluten intolerance in my body produces antibodies. Lactose intolerance is just the body not breaking down lactose and the complex sugars getting into your colon and causing a reaction via irritation cause by bacteria. From what I understand...
  11. Ok, this is rather odd, and I always wondered why it happened to me, but on the lower part of my shins I have no hair, below that point, yep, above, most definitly. I suppose it could be socks, but wouldn't the hair be gone lower on my shin? Just curious. I will note that I used to race bicycles, criteriums, road races, time trials, etc as part of...
  12. Agreed. I'm curious though, do the food labeling laws apply to teas? I contacted TenRen tea company about their green tea. The last time I called they said that it does not contain gluten. Here's there website: Open Original Shared Link You can buy this tea in bulk at Costco. Thanks, Mike
  13. That point in bold above is a very interesting point that had crossed my mind once, but now it makes absolute sense. Since the immune system is attacking and trying to kill something that it will never kill, it will continue until the gluten is through the system. I'm curious, do the same antibodies occur throughout the entire digestive system? I imagine...
  14. I too noticed how much my symptoms improved when doing Atkins, I didn't make the link to gluten until I found out I had Lymphocytic Colitis and found that others with my disease had improvement with going gluten free. I had Enterolab test me and found that I had gluten sensitivity as well as the genes.
  15. Another thought is to test for IgA deficency which would throw off those tests.
  16. Beano, the digestive enzyme, now lists wheat on it's label. According to the website, the amount that is detected is less than the amount that can be chemically detected. Now I'm at a loss as for what to do. The amount isn't measureable so is it still too much and can cause a reaction? Supposedly wheat is somehow used in the process of manufacturing...
  17. I'm guessing that this is the test. Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG), IgA Open Original Shared Link Use Detection of antibodies to aid in the diagnosis of gluten-sensitive enteropathy (GSE), such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis Limitations A negative tTG IgA result in an untreated patient does not rule out gluten-sensitive enteropathy...
  18. Ok, I know I'm gluten intollerant as found by enterolab and via going gluten free and having a significant reduction in symtoms. I just found a previous notation by the lab testing my GI Dr ordered and I'm wondering what exactly was tested. Obviously the test was negative, but I'm wonderint which test they ran. Thanks! Here's what it said: TEST ...
  19. Right, lets say the person in question is IgA difficient.
  20. LOL I didn't even notice that. Who needs the stinkin carbs?!!?!
  21. I would try it without the half & half just to be sure.
  22. I agree that my numbers were off now. Guess I'll have to rethink how to do the poll. I just wanted to make sure that folks that think fat is bad and cut a lot out don't think that 20% is high fat. Clearly I'm not a good poll taker. I find for myself that somewhere around 33% from each is about right. Give or take. Though I don't use macros to...
  23. Excellent point, back to the fish oil... only stopped it yesterday. LOL
  24. My guess, other than my other thoughts I'll keep to myself , is that all the genetic testing tells you is your potential for the disease, not that you have the disease. While that has it's uses to most folks here, to them it does not. Though there is other testing that most insurance companies don't pay for that they should pay for if they were...
  25. Hey, thanks for the links, I haven't seen those yet, good info up there.
