  1. Bummer about the comments about biopsy. I just had the library hold the book for me yesterday. Hopefully there's something in there new to learn.
  2. Exctellent point. Most folks can eventually lose or gain the weight they want to or at least get close. The staying there and maintaining the weight is a whole different story. And one that most folks tend not to learn. Most think that they can go back to the way they were eating before and stay at that weight, not reallizing, for some reason, that this...
  3. Right, as someone once told me, the best exercies for losing weight is the one that you do. And it helps to be consistant about exercise so if it's fun and something that you can and will do then it's more likely that you'll be consistent.
  4. Just found out that it is inded covered by my insurance. CPT 86001 is the code the insurance folks need. The bummer is that the office is closed and so I haven't heard back yet. Gotta make sure that they have the test, get it done and it'll take 2 weeks for the results.
  5. This is a very interesting question. Well interesting in that I've been wondering about something similar. I'm really of the thinking now that our bodies don't make mistakes, that what the body does shouldn't be stopped as it's the way the body knows how to heal or protect itself. Hell, the body has been working pretty darn well at keeping itself...
  6. Agreed, but in the mindset of "fat is bad" it's not. I was trying to come up with some decent numbers that see about right for most folks, perhaps I'm off. I just read something recently on gut health and so I was curious on how the real world of folks with damaged GIs would respond to this question. That and I'm trying ever so hard not to bias...
  7. Well think of it this way. Would anyone want to consume 1 crumbs worth of poisen, pathogen, bacteria, virus, etc? The immune system reacts in the same way to 1 crumb of all of these things by trying to fight it off, get rid of it, kill it, etc. When the immune system reacts other systems in the body turn on and off in response. Inflammation is an example...
  8. Good point, I'll qualify the question asking if drinking a glass or two of wine/champagne.
  9. Does drinking Red Wine or Champagne cause sneezing, flush, headache, diarrhea, skin itch, or shortness of breath?
  10. Do you feel better on a high/moderate fat or low fat diet? By low fat I'm thinking something lower than 15-10% fat by calories and most likely high in carbohydrates. By high/moderate fat I'm thinking something around 20%+ fat by calories and most likely low in carbohydrates. By feeling better I mean you feel like you have more energy, better mood...
  11. Hi Nicole, Do you do anything different diet wise than you do for celiac? I've read a bit saying that diet doesn't make a difference, but I can't belive that's the case. Thanks, Mike Hi Burdee, Ok, I was on the fence about getting the ELISA test, but after reading some more I'm going to get this done. Insurance or not I really need to figure...
  12. Thought this might be of interest to folks here. Open Original Shared Link
  13. Well since gluten does damage to the villi in us. And lactase is produced in and around the villi in the intestine. Damaged villi would produce less or no lactase. And lactase helps us digest lactose. Then there is a link.
  14. This could also be fructose malabsorbtion. Do any other fruits give you problems if eaten large quantities? How about honey, maple syrup?
  15. Rice and Pea protein are the only ones I can think of. Well besides meat products, but I'm sure a steak shake wouldn't work too well.
  16. Mom's side: Norwegian, Irish (might be others, but this is the majority) Dad's side: Swedish, Scottish, English, French, German (I'm sure there's more, but this is what I have thus far)
  17. Yeah, I'm struggling with this as well. Doing an elimination type diet I found some of the things that affected me, but not all. For example I didn't figure out fructose malabsorbtion until I did a food diary and saw that the increased honey was pointing towards too much fructose in my diet. (Symptoms were achy belly, crampy, gassy and sometimes diarrhea...
  18. It appears that there is a connection: Open Original Shared Link But the on the other side of the coin is this: Open Original Shared Link
  19. Excellent point. Those digestive enzymes and bacteria don't seem to care what flavor stuff is and I don't chew the caplets.
  20. Yeah, my wife and kids call me Mikey all the time. Used to bug me cause of how it was used back when kids made fun of me. Though it does throw me off when someone besides the wife and kids call me it at times. LOL
  21. On the topic of wine. Red wine and shampagne (off topic I'm sure) can be problems for folks with Celiac or Gluten Intollerance and here's why I think it's an issue. I was reading DogtorJ's article about pain, and he started to talk about MSGs and migrains. This got me thinking about my red wine / champagne related head aches. I ended up finding this...
  22. Doh! I can't believe I said that. Thanks for correcting me. Silly consumers. All I really wanted was the alcohol removed. Good point about the testing. I'm just hoping that they don't just test it once and say that their done. I hope that they continue to test the product for gluten to make sure that the content doesn't change because the don...
  23. Ok, it was mentioned elsewhere that Imodium contains gluten. This was news to me so I thought I'd search. Couldn't find out for certain so I called customer support of the manufacturer McNeil. Here's the website: Open Original Shared Link According to the very nice customer support person, the products that are designated Gluten Free are the "Imodium...
  24. I'm really confused now. What exactly is fine and what is not? Sorry, but I'm not going to take any more chances and get sick. Regular immodium to me is the liquid. Is there a list?
  25. Forgot to add that my symptoms are also flu like. I feel achy, irritable and very tired. I get nausous, but don't throw up. I end up not wanting to eat anything at all. I'm thinking about going to a local naturopath as well to get some sort of food sensitivity test done. I just wasn't sure which to take? Seems like there is a lot of different testing...
