  1. For Vance's DariFree milk substitute visit www.vancesfoods.com Many other online stores now carry it.
  2. Check out Glee Gum, www.gleegum.com a natural gum that is free of artificial ingredients and is gluten-free. Sunni
  3. I have had no problems buying or using my flour and baking items from Miss Roben's, www.missroben.com or Kinnikinnick, www.kinnikinnick.com because both of these companies are committed to gluten-free and allergy-free foods. Bob's Red Mill states that they use a separate facility for gluten-free flours. Sunni
  4. I've been on a restricted diet for many years and searching for any kind of milk and soy free cheese. It just does not currently exist. Although I would love to be proven wrong. The closest thing you can make to cheese is using Nutritional Yeast (an inactive form of yeast safe for people with candida, but not safe for yeast allergies). Chreese, www.chreese...
  5. Spectrum Palm Shortenening, www.spectrumorganics.com is a non-hydrogenated oil which can be used as substitute for any kind of butter or shortening in baking. Palm oil is naturally solid at room temperature, so this is much healthier than normal vegetable shortening. Its also fairly flavorless, so it won't have an influence on the finished product. I have...
  6. You can visit Celestial Seasonings and Bigelow's website and they will list which products are gluten-free and have it marked on their products. www.celestialseasonings.com www.bigelowtea.com Sunni
  7. I use Vance's DariFree for my milk substitute and like it much better than most rice milks, which seem to have a very watery consistency. If you make Vance's with hot or boiled water and then refrigerate it will be very thick and creamy, just like milk (I don't recommend adding it to cold water as it will be watery and thin). And it seems to have a good flavor...
  8. Annies Naturals www.anniesnaturals.com Muir Glen www.muirglen.com Sunni
  9. I absolutely love the Applegate Farms products - www.applegatefarms.com I eat their Roast Turkey and Bacon all the time. I also highly recommend their Chicken Hot Dogs! Also Shelton's has some products too (not quite deli though - burgers/hot dogs and meats). www.sheltons.com Sunni
  10. Actually there are several. Go to www.glutenfreepizza.com for a company that specializes in pre-made crusts. I've heard they are pretty good, I only wish they'd make a yeast free variant so I could eat them! Also, someone mentioned Kinnikinnick and Ener-G. I don't recommend the Ener-G as it tastes like cardboard in my opinion. Sunni
  11. I bought Erewhon's Crispy Rice cereal and decimated them into a breadcrumb-like consistency. It turned out terrific. Then I just added some herbs and spices to it. I have used this to oven bake pork chops and chicken and it worked just like regular breadcrumbs. I hear you can do the same with corn flakes too, but haven't tried it yet.
  12. You can still have cereal, you just need to try some non-dairy alternatives like Rice Milk, Soy Milk or Vance's Dari-Free (My favorite). I like to make a large batch of waffles and bacon, then freeze them. When I want a waffle I just heat it up in the toaster and microwave the bacon. I know there are Van's gluten-free Waffles, but I prefer to have homemade...
  13. Here in the south (FL) we like to fry fish in cornmeal. But I usually do about 50% cornmeal and 50% white rice or brown rice flour. It makes the fish crispy and browns well. I also add salt and sometimes lemon and dill to the fish. You can also a mix of bean flour and other gluten-free flour. The bean flour is also great for browning and flavor. ...
  14. I agree that I haven't yet encountered a peanut butter that contained gluten. But there is always chances for cross contamination. The comment on aflatoxin may be relevant. Here is what I found: Aflatoxin Definition: Aflatoxins are toxins produced by a mold that grows in nuts, seeds, and legumes. Function: Although aflatoxins are known...
  15. I have been trying for years to make a bread that is free of yeast, milk and soy. Without yeast the best you can hope for is a type of biscuit, flatbread or quickbread. So far I haven't come close to replicating a normal sandwich like bread at home. Although flatbread serves that purpose well enough. Here are some biscuit recipes I found: Cornbread...
  16. Ok, Michelle, Its difficult to really separate the actual function of an egg in a recipe because it is naturally both leavener + binder. But if the recipe also calls for additional baking powder, then you have a clue that the egg is mostly a binder. In this case use any kind of liquid egg sub like honey, syrup, gelatin, mashed fruit, tofu or Veganaise soy...
  17. I've also heard that some companies dust the machines with flour prevent food products from sticking to it. This can be cornstarch, wheat, or other kinds of flour. Also, have to consider that sometimes machines are used to make several kinds of food products, so there can be residue left from previous batches. Sunni
  18. I really like Miss Roben's Versatile cookie mix and other mixes. It works well with Egg Replacer + Fleischmann's light or palm oil shortening. Their mixes seem to be easy to make with substitutions. I never got good results with some other companies mixes, but I'm sure they are great if you don't have any restrictions other than gluten. Sunni
  19. I have used up to 3 tablespoons in baking recipes such as cakes or bread and found that it did nothing to affect the taste. But this only works well for leavening. Here is some more info on substituting for eggs you might find useful: Eggs add color, protein, volume, and texture to baked foods. They can be one of the most challenging ingredients...
  20. Here is some information on the Nutritional Yeast from the RedStarYeast site: Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link It mentions that it is safe for Candida sufferers. Nutritional Yeast is used in a lot of vegetarian recipes, especially cheese. Unfortunately, I am allergic to yeast which means I can't have any form...
  21. I agree...I didn't know either for a while. In any case I can't stand how the lime tastes. It can be rather apparent in some kinds of Tortillas. But I like Mission brand the best. I only wish I could find a normal size tortilla, instead of those teeny tiny ones they have at the store!

    ARCHIVED Sugar

Most processed sugar is either from sugar cane or sometimes corn. If you notice that you are having problems with "sugar", you might actually have a sensitivity to sugar cane or corn. Try avoiding foods with these ingredients for a while. Also, use an alternative sweetener like honey or fruit, which you mentioned don't seem to bother you. Sunni
  23. Masa is usually corn mixed with lime as I've been told by a taco company long ago.
  24. Here are some companies to check out www.muirglen.com www.anniesnaturals.com Sunni
  25. Fleischmann's produces two light margarines that can be used in baking. These are suggested because they are few of the only non-dairy margarines on the market. Unsalted Fleischmann's - Comes in sticks. Free of all dairy and gluteningredients, but does include Soy.*** so not what you want, however- Light Fleischmann's - Comes in tubs. Dairy-free, Gluten...
