ARCHIVED I Hate My Pediatric Gi...
Lfrost replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am wondering how the allergy testing is only 50% accurate? Can I ask where you get that information? As I understand it the severity of the reaction is the part that is not very accurate, so even if there are only low levels of IgE towards a particular allergen, the child may have a more severe reaction. Alternatively, even if the IgE levels are high, the... -

Hey ronschon, here is a link to someone who posted on this before, it looks like they contacted the company, but it didn't help much: -
ARCHIVED I Hate My Pediatric Gi...

That is really frustrating. I wonder, however, if your original ped would still be willing to run an allergy blood test (especially now that he knows you are serious). We just went in for a blood draw and they sent it off to the lab (didn't even have to see the ped, he just needed to put the order in) its worth a shot, anyway. I was so mad to find out that... -

I would definitely still do an allergy test to rule it out. I took my son in to the doctor just for GI issues (his symptoms were chronic constipation and then he began vomiting each morning for no apparent reason). The doctor said it was just a virus, but I demanded an allergy test and Celiac panel. The celiac panel came back negative, but his allergy test... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Of Any Good Research On The Effect Of Gluten In The Behavior In Children?
Lfrost replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been reading "Living Gluten Free For Dummies" (second edition) by Danna Korn. She does an excellent job of explaining the effects of gluten on behavior in Chapter 4: it is titled "Connecting Gluten with Autism, Behavior, and Mood". I love the way that it is explained in layman's terms. I have been referring this book to family and friends telling them... -

I am wondering why they haven't done allergy testing yet. Our Ped was able to do it without a referral. Basically, I went in and demanded an allergy test. I had no idea that my son had IgE reactions to MULTIPLE foods including wheat. -
Ok, I'm switching doctors. Talked to him about possible hypopneas. He told me I am having panic attacks and prescribed me Prozac!? These are not panic attacks, I do not have anxiety (HE, however, is CAUSING me anxiety)!

My family has had canker sore chronically. My mother had hers clear up (or at least significantly improve) when she started using toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate. No such luck for me though. I had them very bad, to the point that they ulcerated to the bone on my gums (my dentist had never seen this before and my doctor thought it might be cancer...

ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!
Lfrost replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you squirmingitch. I really have no idea what this is! His rash does look similar to some of the second link. So far nothing has shown up on the other calf, but I will keep a look out. I do know that it itches like crazy (he won't leave it alone) and that it burns (he didn't want me to even touch it when I wanted to clean it up for a picture--that... -
ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!
Lfrost replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So while my son's behavior has improved today, we now have strange rashes. Open Original Shared Link Any ideas? I wonder if he might actually have celiac? His bloodwork was negative, but I haven"t pushed for a endoscopy since we thought the allergies were it. My main reason for worrying is the extremes of his reactions (to going gluten free--good... -
ARCHIVED Need Major Help With Constipation
Lfrost replied to MaZoodleTwins's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are so many alternatives to milk, almond, rice, coconut, etc. My son was a huge milk drinker and when we switched to almond the constipation cleared up quite quickly (less than a week) and he didn't mind. From what I heard, if your villi (they line the small intestine) are damaged (as with celiac) your body becomes lactose intolerant until the villi... -
ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!

I had never noticed a change in my son's behavior because of artificial colors before! We are good so far today (his little hyper 'horns' have not appeared yet). This just amazes me! I was NEVER one to check food labels before my son started getting sick. I have always taken for granted that we are a 'naturally skinny' family (albeit a bit underweight).... -

This could have something to do with it, too. Yesterday we were stuck inside because it was raining (darn Oregon weather) and I was trying to get some deep cleaning done. I wondered if somehow the dust could have made his allergies act up, too. Dust mites are his biggest allergen, but I was trying to be careful by using a wet cloth for gathering any dust... -

I didn't even know there was such a thing?! It would make sense, I read that our brain can process gluten similar to Morphine. -

I wonder if this could be it? His regular fruit snacks have no artificial flavors or colors, these ones have Red 40, yellow 5, blue 1, and red 3. They also have artificial flavor -
ARCHIVED Another Step Backward
Lfrost replied to Birdie19's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, I couldn't believe it either! In their defense, it is a Montessori School and the parents bring snack. The teachers set it out and the kids serve themselves. Colton (my son) is 4 and brand new to the diet. My guess is that they caught him eating it and wrote it in his diary. The thing that got me is that they didn't tell me, it was the last day of school... -
ARCHIVED What The Heck Is Going On?!
Lfrost posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ok, so we are 9 days gluten-free (plus 3 more days prior with one day in between where we gave him gluten). We had been having great results. My son's constipation is pretty much gone, and he says it doesn't hurt to go anymore. He has quit wetting himself. He used to be a very grumpy and defiant introvert, lately he has been very sociable and happy, even... -
ARCHIVED Another Step Backward
Lfrost replied to Birdie19's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is so frustrating. My son also had that happen (his were pretzels) I only found out about it because we were keeping a food diary. The interesting thing is that my son's teacher is celiac and her assistant is gluten intolerant! I thought for sure they would have been on the lookout! -
ARCHIVED Very Dry Lips
Lfrost replied to Lfrost's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is very interesting. I wonder why? I am thinking that we are having a rebound or something today. My son woke up with the really dry lips and for some reason his allergies were out of control, even with his Singular. His nose has been extremely stuffy, yet runny (poor guy has a sore under it just from today). And to top it all off, his behavior!... -
ARCHIVED Need Major Help With Constipation
Lfrost replied to MaZoodleTwins's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am curious...did you cut the dairy out of their diets, too? My son has not been diagnosed Celiac (neg. blood test), but he did test positive to allergies (wheat being his highest food allergy). When we cut the dairy out (along with the gluten), the constipation issues were very much improved in about a week. (His poo still 'gets stuck' at times, but nowhere... -
ARCHIVED Do These Results Look Like A Food Allergy To You?
Lfrost replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
May I ask what 'eosinophils' is? I don't think my son had this checked, or at least I cannot see it mentioned on his blood tests. Is it something I should ask for? My son supposedly has 'low allergies', however, his symptoms were chronic constipation, and always stuffy with swollen sinuses. When when we cut out dairy his constipation improved, but he... -
ARCHIVED Do These Results Look Like A Food Allergy To You?
Lfrost replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, I will give that one a shot, too and see which he prefers. He hasn't had a problem with the almond milk (and it can be used in cooking, too) but my mother was concerned since he has a lot of other food allergies. I don't know if it can happen or not, but she was mentioning that when you have allergies, you are more likely to develop others. She said... -

IrishHeart, do you prefer the coconut? Neither my husband nor I can stand the taste of coconut so I didn't buy that one for my son, but he might like it. I honestly have never tried any of the dairy free versions of milk (I actually don't like milk, so I don't drink much at all). -
Does anyone else have the problem of very dry lips with their children? My son's lips have been very dry for months (ever since his last bout with a respiratory infection and his doctor prescribed Prednisone). His lips are not chapped and painful, they just get very dry and 'puckered'. They also peel often. When we first went gluten/dairy free a couple of...

Give the almond milk a try. I didn't think my son would like it either, but turns out I was wrong (doesn't sound appetizing to me, but he is fine with it). My son was also a HUGE milk drinker. He still drinks the almond milk, just not as much. We do the sweetened, vanilla or chocolate. I like that it doesn't have soy in it (correct me if I am wrong, but I...
