  1. Thank you! I know that even with a negative test Celiac cannot be ruled out completely. The nice thing is that, even with low allergies, at least I have that diagnosis for him for school, or whatever he might need it for. Since he has responded so well to the gluten-free diet, we will just stick with it and I won't have to subject him to biopsies, etc...
  2. So I have been seeing people mention that the tests for Celiac should be: Anti-gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliagin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA So, my son had his bloodwork done. His tests were: Endomysial Antibody IgA Tissue Transglutaminase IgA...
  3. Prior to finding our son's allergies, he was vomitting each night/early morning yet seemed fine during the day--albeit tired and a bit run down. His doctor had mentioned that when the digestive system slows down (my son also has chronic constipation) that food is left sitting in the gut. When our bodies enter a state of rest, for instance when we go to...
  4. ElitaSue, The mention of your epilepsy piqued my interest. My oldest daughter also has Complex Partial Seizures, however they found that her focal points are from the frontal lobe. (Originally they weren't sure where the focal points were since her entire brain was showing 'severe seizure activity' on the EEGs). She was diagnosed when she was 5 years...

    ARCHIVED Sleep Apnea

Thanks for all of the great info, mushroom! I can't wait to see what the doctor says about hyponeas. He totally blew me off about apnea since I am very underweight (even though I know that doesn't matter). I am not sure what his issues with referrals are. The more I complain about the sleep problem, the more he tells me it is panic attacks, or anxiety...
  6. Honestly, I can't remember exactly which link I was on when I first read it, but if you google nail clubbing, lots of sites will come up. Here is one: Open Original Shared Link This one here doesn't directly state Celiac as being one of the causes of clubbing, but I like how it lists the different stages of clubbing: Open Original Shared Link ...
  7. It was both for fingers and toes. For my son, it is just his toes though. It was really interesting, it says it can come on rapidly and that it can go away just as rapidly (especially with the change in diet)
  8. I didn't realize I should be giving my son probiotics! Does anyone have a recommendation of which I should give him? His food allergies are wheat, soy, milk, egg, peanut, and fish/cod. So yogurts are out, unless they are non dairy. He also can't swallow pills. What do others use?
  9. What a great idea. I just found out from a friend that one of our local farm and garden stores here will do bi-monthly orders from a place called Azure Standard. It is nice because I can order high quality bulk items and there is no membership fee, etc. They specialize in organic, and special diet foods. On a side note, it was funny today. My son was playing...
  10. Hey everybody, I was came across some very interesting information last night as I was googling about nails. I didn't realize that they can tell a lot about your health. I actually came across it by accident. I have a weird toenail on my baby toes. My dad had it, I have it, and my son has it. Turns out it is called congenital onychogryphosis. It only...
  11. Thank you for all of the replies, everyone! You are right, I should try to keep it simple. I was trying to keep it our dinners as normal as possible. I have 2 teenagers and a preteen that claim that since their brother is the one with the issues, they shouldn't have to change their food. So, I have been trying to have everyone go gluten-free without them...
  12. I would love to hear what anyone has to say about the distention! My son's behavior has improved so much since going gluten-free, however, just last night I noticed his little belly was distended. I figured it must be because of how much he is eating now (he used to eat like a bird and is now eating a lot more). But it definately looked distended.
  13. So, originally when given the challenge of feeding my son gluten free for 30 days, I thought sure we'll give it a shot. We went out and bought all kinds of gluten free foods and staples to make meals (and it cost quite the pretty penny when starting out)! We decided since my son's allergy to wheat is so low, yet he has such a big reaction, we should be...

    ARCHIVED Sleep Apnea

I am going in for a Dr. appointment on Monday (general checkup). My main concern was having my thyroid checked. I was wondering what I should do to get my Dr. to believe me. I haven't pressed the issue because it hasn't been happening as often lately. It had gotten really bad at one point happening multiple times each night, but has been about a week now...
  15. Your son's blood work looks very similar to my son's. Did they happen to test him for allergies also? My son tested negative for Celiac, but he does have low allergies (one being wheat). Even though his Celiac panel came back negative, however, he has a positive response when we went gluten-free. When he eats gluten (or at least wheat) he gets a rash,...
  16. That was what I was figuring (about it being something more than ADD). As a kid my teachers/friends always mentioned my 'hyperactivity'. In high school I had a friend who called me an 'anorexic live wire'. Also, coworkers have joked about my 'ADHD', so basically, when the inattention got out of hand, I went to the Dr. (Plus 2 of my kids are already diagnosed...
  17. Wow! Thank you so much! I will send you an email!
  18. That is a great idea! We are currently doing a 30 day gluten-free challenge with my 4 year old son. I have a feeling from the way he is responding that this will probably be a more permanent diet for him. Where did you get the bracelets, may I ask?

    ARCHIVED Sleep Apnea

I wonder if I might have some form of sleep apnea, too. The problem is that I am very underweight. I will wake up out of a deep sleep and it is like I have forgotten how to breathe. Sometimes I have to leap out of bed to get a breath in. My doctor tried to tell me that I am having panic attacks in my sleep and put me on some kind of anti anxiety medication...
  20. Wow, it seems like you just hit it on the head! I have noticed that the Adderall works less each day after only using it for one month. I don't want to keep increasing my dose just to make it through the day. I did post my son's labwork. It is in the "Babies and Children with Celiac" forum under the title 'Just Plain Confused'. we currently have him...
  21. Hi, everybody. I have a quick question. I am going in for a physical/checkup, whatever you want to call it. Basically, I have been having a lot of trouble with focus, tiredness, etc. I can actually sleep an entire day and not feel the slightest bit rested. Also, when I do get up, it will take a good hour of moving around before I can actually 'wake up...
  22. My son's wheat allergy is only at .51 (the 'low' range) however, when we took wheat away for only a few days and then gave it back, we had IMMEDIATE reactions! He broke out on a rash on his face within a few minutes after eating a Happy Meal. He also started itching all over and started wetting his pants. We took the wheat away again (just last night)...
  23. We are currently doing a 30 day trial of Gluten-free (doctor says stay light on dairy as well, but we are just cutting dairy, too). After the outbreak of my son's rash right after having gluten/wheat, my husband is now fully on board. He is actually going gluten-free at home with the rest of us! (We are finishing off anything gluten in the house and replacing...
  24. So I got the paperwork from my son's blood tests. The first one tested allergens. He does have multiple allergens, but they are all 'low' (0.35-0.70), or 'clinical relevance undetermined' (0.10-0.34). Here are his results: D. FARINAE (MITE) ALLERGEN 0.51 H CAT DANDER ALLERGEN 0.20 DOG DANDER ALLERGEN 0.51 H MILK ALLERGEN 0.30 SOYBEAN...
  25. So, I just wanted to get other's perspectives. This is the rash that showed up immediately after eating a hamburger happy meal (after being gluten-free for a couple of days). (did I load that right?) My son has a small wheat allergy (he tested at .49 and normal is .35 or less), and his bloodwork from his Celiac panel came out 'very low in...
