  1. Thanks for the info on breadsticks and snickerdoodles! I would like to add some good news: Breads from Anna has a bread mix that I tried for the first time yesterday. The results were so wonderful I almost cried tears of joy! I had tried 4 different breads from the specialty stores. None of them resembled bread in texture or taste...yuck!! Breads from...
  2. I had both tests done simultaneously in July and it was not a problem. As others have told you, your person who accompanies you needs to listen to doctor carefully when he gives his findings after the test. Good luck with your tests! Sharon
  3. The link didn't work for me. Could you send it to me? Thanks so much. sasjune9@yahoo.com Sharon
  4. Heather, I know how frustrated you are. I am newly diagnosed in July 2005. You need to hear from others on this site who know more than I do. Regarding your GI doctor, the reason he rushes you could very well be that he is very uninformed about this disease. It helps to have a doctor who specializes in Celiac. Also, you may want to make an appointment...
  5. Christi, Good article!! Thanks for sharing. Sharon
  6. Hi Debbie, My potato salad recipe includes eggs (approx. one egg to each potato), potatoes, Miracle Whip Lite, chopped celery, finely chopped onion. I like lots of celery in mine. And, of course, salt and pepper to taste. Good luck! Sharon
  7. I still have a lot of questions. I have no symptoms (diagnosed in July, 2005). Why is a moisturizer or shampoo containing gluten bad? I thought you had to ingest gluten for it to harm you????
  8. I also just started getting flaking and redness (when I scratch it) on the side of my nose and just above eyebrow. I have psoraisis and thought it was an outbreak, but who knows....it could be something else.
  9. Hi, I was diagnosed in July. I am having colon surgery to remove a large polyp on Tuesday. Today I noticed the inside of my belly button is very red and hurts when I touch it. Does anyone know if it could be related to Celiac? I will be calling the doctor in the morning. Thanks
  10. I use the Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce. I am still waiting for the company to answer my question is it gluten-free? Anyone else have any information on Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce? It is the best in the world!
  11. Thank you kaiti--you answered my question before I could ask it.....Today I received a letter from the doctor that did my colonoscopy and diagnosed me as Celiac. He indicated my celiac disease antibodies show normal range in 2 out of 4 antibody tests and elevated range in the other two. I was perplexed by this, as I thought there was one test/number which...
  12. Printmaker, would you share you banana nut bread recipe with us? Thanks.
  13. I have had bumps and ridges on my nails for many years, mostly my thumbnails. I always thought they were from my Psoraisis, because Psoraisis can damage the nail bed. Thanks for all this great information.
  14. Hi Corrine, Canadian Karen is right--everyone who posts on this sight is very understanding and we all try to help each other. Without a site like this, Celiac would be a very, very lonely disease. I am new to this site in a past few weeks and I still am not quite sure what I am doing. But I plow through because I need all the info I can get on this terrible...
  15. Thank you ianm.
  16. Japsnoet: I hate the gluten-free breads from the specialty stores. I have tried a couple of brands, even Kinnickinnik (sp?)which someone said was very good. For my taste, it sucks! You mention Carol Fenster recipes. Is her recipe for sandwich bread worth making, or is it pretty much like the heavy, non-breadlike loaves on the gluten-free shelves...
  17. Tamara, What is this "brain fog" I hear celiacs talking about? I am newly diagnosed, and I have something weird that happens to my head when I first get up from a sitting down position and walk. It goes away within a couple of seconds, but it is unlike anything I have ever felt before.
  18. Laura, I have not eaten at P.F. Chang's yet, but I would like to. My favorite is beef chop suey. I heard some soy sauce has gluten and others not. If I ascertain which Chinese restaurants use gluten-free soy sauce (if any), are there also other ingredients in chop suey that I have to investigate? This site is SO HELPFUL!!
  19. Jim, try Mi-Del pecan cookies, they are quite good. I think all the breads suck, though, even the most expensive ones that others rave about. I no longer look forward to breakfast except for the coffee.
  20. I am newly diagnosed and spending hours on the Internet learning about my disease. I am able to reply to these posts, but how do you start a topic of your own? Also, can I address it to all members or do I have to choose one member? Thanks to everyone for these great lists.
  21. Karen, I like the Kraft Catalina, lite. That's ok isn't it? Also, do you know of any substitute for catsup? I am a fan of Heinz catsup on my scrambled eggs.
  22. dear KaitiUSA: I understand that if a label lists a hydrolyzed vegetable protein, it could be from wheat. If the label specifically lists a hydrolyzed corn protein, does that mean it is gluten-free? Also, I am trying to determine if I can eat Lipton Cup-A-Soup, cream of chicken. Among the ingredients that I am not sure of are: maltodextrin, yeast extract...
  23. Thank you Pegster, another thing I am curious about is in that same area, it mentions that if there is hydrolyzed vegetable protein in the product, the label will say so. Somewhere I have read that if it says hydrolyzed corn protein instead of vegetable protein, that is ok. Do you feel this is true?
  24. Hi, Just thought of one more item I can't find on my list of "good" and "bad" foods. I see mustard flour on labels. Is it gluten-free?
