  1. I don't really drink coffee but I got addicted to Starbucks caramel macciatto (sp?). I'm not sure exactly what it was called since I never ordered it for myself but it was cold with whip cream and caramel on top. I miss these so bad Does anyone know if this drink is gluten-free? -Rachel
  2. I had Graves Disease and occasionally had to take meds for it. It wasnt a big deal to me. Then in 2002 I had symptoms that wouldnt go away even with the meds...I assumed the symptoms were caused by overactive thyroid. Since the meds werent helping I got Radioactive Iodine and went Hypothyroid shortly after. All my symptoms were still there though + I had...
  3. Yeah....I got crazy night sweats all the time. I would wake up totally soaked, hair, clothes, sheets, pillows...everything. It was like someone poured a bucket of water on me. It hardly happens now that I changed my diet. I don't know if I have celiac disease yet but the night sweats return the same time other symptoms return...probably when I've had gluten...
  4. I was having bad reactions every time I chewed gum...burning mouth and lips, tingling, and headaches. Eventually I figured out it was the aspartame. I think the gum I was chewing was Extra. Its been like 2 years since I've chewed gum cuz of that. Scared now . I think Aspartame is especially bad for those with autoimmune disease. -Rachel
  5. If for any reason you wanted to have the biopsy done then you'd have to continue eating gluten. The stool tests which are done through Enterolab don't require you to be eating gluten. My blood tests came back negative (I had stopped eating gluten for 2 weeks) so now I'm waiting for Enterolab results since I've been off gluten for awhile now. Did you say you...
  6. Merika, I was wondering the same thing. Is this a standard test or what? I've only had my B12 checked. I asked my doc about vit/min screening last week and he didnt know...said he had to look it up. -Rachel
  7. Hi, I requested that the results of my last blood test be mailed to me so that I could finally see the numbers. These were taken October of '04 before I started losing tons of weight. I was 2 weeks gluten-free at the time of testing and the results are negative. Here are the results and reference ranges. Just wondering if anyone thinks the numbers would...
  8. I think doctors who are actually knowledgeable about Celiac Disease are a dime a dozen so it is best to educate yourself as much as you can. If you are fortunate enough to have a doctor who will listen and give you accurate information then consider yourself extremely lucky. Most will ACT as if they know what they're talking about and if you don't know any...
  9. OK....I figured out the problem. I joined under a another username awhile back but then couldn't remember the name or password so I just created a new account. I could not use my correct email address to register under the new name because it already exsisted under the old account so I used a different email address. The user names are almost identical Rachel...
  10. I already did that but there is just no message. It says 0 messages. Thats why I'm wondering why I got the email but not the PM. -Rachel
  11. I get an email saying that I have a PM but when I try to access the page I get an error message saying that the PM does not exsist??? Why am I getting an email if there is no PM? Am I doing something wrong? -Rachel
  12. Katie already answered this question I'm not sure about Canada either though. The tests are a little pricey. If you order everything at once its a little cheaper I think. I did the gene testing along with the stool tests and there was a milk test included. My doctor has tested me in the past for malabsorption and it showed nothing. I'm curious to know...
  13. Yes, I did feel a whole lot better after about 1-2 weeks. I was pretty much in bed all day before that...not functioning at all. I still have a long way to go I think. I also don't have the diagnosis yet but I've tried everything in the past 2 1/2 years and the diet's the only thing that has helped me. -Rachel
  14. Hi, No way...I'm not going back on gluten for 3 months. I'm still doing the gluten-free diet and just this week eliminated all other possible gluten sources (that I know of) shampoo, lotion, make-up..etc. I only weigh 95 lbs. and it would not be good for me at all to go back on gluten. I did Enterolab gene & stool testing and I'm waiting for the results...
  15. I was scheduled for biopsy but at the time I was 3 weeks gluten-free and the GI doc told me it would not be accurate so I didn't do it. -Rachel
  16. Thanks everyone for your replies Matilda, after reading your post I got a little teary because I know that everything you wrote is true. I have completely relied on conventional medicine for the past 2 years trusting that they could "fix" me. I had never been sick before this happened...rarely even caught a cold. I didn't even realize food had anything...
  17. Thanks again I think the main reason I'm not in a hurry to buy new stuff is that I'm scared to get my hopes up about my test results. It does seem alot like celiac disease but you never know...if its not I'm not sure where that will leave me and right now I cant afford to lose any more weight. Is the Bare Essentuals stuff also chemical free as well...
  18. Thanks Stephanie, I'm eliminating everything that can possibly contain gluten...shampoo and all that stuff. I wanted to find out about the turkey I ate but there was no manufacturer # or anything on the package. It just said natural flavors & spice extracts added. I'm just going to assume it contained gluten because I think I remember seeing those...
  19. Jenvan, Thanks for your response. I've been calling companies and checking labels...its all still new so I'm still finding things that contain gluten. Yesterday I found out my blush had oat flour in it. I was thinking..what are the chances of this blush getting into my mouth? I've been very symptomatic the past few days and I remembered that I had shed...
  20. Hi, I don't have a diagnosis yet...Enterolab results are at least 2 weeks away and in the meantime I'm suddenly having lots of problems. All I know is that when I was eating normally I lost alot of weight and was extremely ill. For the past 3 months I've been only eating meat, veggies, and fish and my health has improved so much. Unfortunately I keep having...
  21. Hi, I don't know if I'm Celiac or not (waiting for Enterolab results). I thought I would mention that I've been eating 1 granny smith apple a day (organic) and each time I always get a small reaction....face tingling and swelling. After reading this thread I started peeling the skin off and the last 2 peeled apples I ate gave me no reaction whatsoever...
  22. Mariann, You did a good job explaining things to me I was wondering if there could be detectable damage that would show up in a biopsy even though I've been gluten-free for 3 months. I'm sure I'm not *totally* gluten-free and since I still have symptoms I thought that must mean damage. Now I understand that the symptoms can still be there due to...
  23. OMG...I hope you didn't go back to that endo! When I was down to 94 lbs. and hardly functioning I was crying in my docs office telling him that I was scared cuz I was losing sooo much weight regardless of how much I was eating. He just shrugged and said "I'm not worried..your tests are normal so its not like you're going to die." Thats pretty much what I...
  24. Kallie, I'm new to this so somebody here may correct me if I'm wrong I think if the shampoo gets in your mouth or on your hands and then in your mouth then YES...it could cause problems. I don't think it can cause hairloss by coming in contact with your scalp though. If you have celiac disease or gluten problems then the hairloss would probably be...
  25. Kallie, That is so funny you asked about hairloss. I was just gonna post to ask whether anyone else has this symptom! We are so alike with our symptoms! Actually the first symptoms to show up almost 3 years ago were hairloss and headaches. I do have thyroid disease (Graves) but it was always under control and not causing me problems. Hairloss would...
