  1. Jen, You have a good therapist...she is sooo right. The first time I went back to work I was still very sick but everyone kept telling me it would be better to go back and do normal things...like I would magically get better from normal activity. I worked for about 8 months calling in sick constantly....I'm also type A so whatever I do its gotta be 100...
  2. Thomas, I was just tested and I've been gluten-free 4 months now. I'm taking small amouts of grapefruit seed extract each day and lots of probiotics just in case
  3. Jen, I'm glad you posted about this. I've been on disibility a total of 21 months now. I was only diagnosed this week. It's been very frusterating for me not to work and I tried to go back three times...I would end up calling in sick at least once a week which wasnt fair to my job. Luckily my boss and everyone else is very understanding. I've worked for...
  4. I don't know if what I get is DH or not. The first time I got it was before I went gluten-free. I had avoided fast food for awhile and was trying to eat better..I felt good for 4 days in a row (which was a big deal for me)...I decided since I felt so good I could reward myself with some Taco Bell (2 bean burritos with s/c my fav). The next day all my symptoms...
  5. Thanks everyone, I guess I'll just wait and see what the GI says. Believe it or not with all I've gone through the last few years I saw every specialist (more than once) except the GI doc. He was the LAST specialist I was sent to and only cuz I demanded it since I had lost so much weight and wasnt digesting my food. I saw him in April and all he did...
  6. Thomas, I had all of these tests done. My HMO tested for parasites more than once. I also paid for tests at Great Smokies (I don't know if a better lab exsists for this kind of testing). Anyways, every test came back negative for candida, parasites etc. Even though I have bad malabsorption from the gluten intolerance I apparantly have no bacterial overgrowth...
  7. These tests were for your daughters thyroid levels...which appear normal. Nothing for Celiac Disease though.
  8. Wow...I thought the endoscopy was painful if they don't sedate you. I wouldn't try it awake for sure
  9. Yeah...I agree....anything involving damage to the intestines.
  10. Something's gotta cause the leaky gut...not necessarily celiac disease...other conditions can cause it as well. If a person suspects celiac disease or is sensitive to gluten and also has symptoms of leaky gut I would think the sensible thing to do would be to remove the gluten from the diet. I think this doctor is just trying to make some $$ by treating the...
  11. I don't have the main gene for celiac disease so I'm thinking there can't be visible damage even if I were still eating gluten. There is no way I'm going back on gluten to find out for sure and my doctor doesnt want me to do that either since I was in very bad shape before I started this diet. He just wants me to do the biopsy anyway....I'm still kind of...
  12. I agree. Lots of alternative doctors (I'm making an assumption that yours is) will dx candida, leaky gut, or other conditions that require you to take lots of expensive supplements. I also have seen an alternative doctor...she has never tried to sell me anything...If she had I would've been out the door as I'm very suspicious of those kinds of treatments...
  13. Fortunately I had the means to get various testing done. I would have thought (based on my symptoms) that Candida/Leaky Gut syndrome would have been likely the cause for my multiple food intolerances & chemical sensitivies. Surprisingly I tested neg. for leaky gut, candida, parasites & all other pathogens. What I've discovered is that symptoms worsen...
  14. I gave my doctor my Enterolab results today and he accepts them as a diagnosis and was very apologetic for all I've gone through the past few years. Apparantly I'm the first patient he's ever had with this so he's wanting to do everything right. He was wanting me to get a biopsy but isn't this kinda useless since I don't have the Celiac gene? Also I've been...
  15. What?? I don't understand that statement. How does he know you have leaky gut....were you tested for it or is he just making an assumption?
  16. Kallie...I was wondering the same thing about what to eat in the beginning. I feel like eating alot of different things might not be helping me too much...although I don't think I look anorexic anymore The dietician I saw today said I could eat anything as long as its gluten-free. She said the only food that will slow healing is gluten. I'm not sure...
  17. Can stress worsen symptoms as well? I was not able to handle stress too well the whole time I was sick...I would get a real bad headache or just get real tired after the smallest amount of stress. Is this normal when still eating gluten?
  18. Thanks for the words of encouragement Stephanie Kallie! Hi...I was wondering where you went. When did you send your test ? Mine came back sooner then I expected...less than 2 weeks actually. I gave up on taking meds of any kind a long time ago...I never liked taking pills to begin with. The fluid retention has been there since I first got sick so I...
  19. Thats exactly how people reacted when I would get upset about so much hair falling out. They were like..."theres nothing wrong...you have plenty of hair" or "everyone loses a little hair here and there". It wasnt a little hair here and there though...it was massive amounts. I'd say I lost about half of my hair at one point. Luckily my hair was thick to begin...
  20. I've had hair loss off and on the whole time I've been sick. It was worse in the beginning...I was losing so much I dont know how I didn't get bald spots. I also had Hyperthyroid going on at that time...I was lucky cuz I had 2 conditions going on at the same time for awhile and they both caused hair loss
  21. Jen, I did try Annies in the past...I actually have a can of the creamy tomato....its been in my cupboard for like a year. I bought alot of stuff last year but then when my blood test came back neg. I went back to regular food. I had some different Annies salad dressings too...they were unopened and out of date so I had to toss em. Bought new ones today...
  22. Kamut is not gluten free. I'm pretty sure Kamut is wheat. You will have to eat bread that is gluten free. Look for the ones that say gluten free...that means NONE of the bread that you find on the regular bread aisle in the grocery store. I don't know if there is a WORST bread...any bread with gluten is just as bad as the next with gluten in it. Its all the...
  23. Thats so sad I almost always ordered soup at resteraunts. I never liked salads much so I always ordered soup which I love...all kinds of soup. I was also one of those people who would eat ALL the bread and then ask for like 2 or 3 more servings before my meal even got there. Those were the good ol' days
  24. I agree with you Molly. I think love just "happens" you can't go out searching for it. The *right* person is the person that accepts you the way you are. You should never feel out of place with your significant other...you should feel right at home...whether the home is 100% gluten-free or not.
  25. Maybe I need to be taking this advice. Does anyone know anything about why I have fluid retention? My legs and feet are really hurting right now
