  1. I recommend never trusting a store employee when it comes to the diet. Get the Delphi list and find "safe" brands...that way there is no question. That guy is in big trouble if he's Celiac and eating SPELT pretzels everyday. Kamut is another form of wheat to watch out for.
  2. Thanks Danijela, I just answered your topic question with pretty much the same response. He-He Too bad we couldn't just condense the 2 topics since they are almost identical. BTW....Welcome to the board!
  3. Woah....where are all the other Italians on this board??? I kept looking for Spanish, Italian or Mexican...but everyone's Irish! Well...that just seals the deal cuz I already told my mom she is responsible for this! Both of my parents have thyroid problems so I don't know who to blame for that...I was just doomed. Maybe I should be blaming myself cuz...
  4. I've had every symptom you listed except the poor balance and the weight gain. The "attacks" you describe are exactly what I've been experiencing the last couple weeks. Its only happened about 3 times though. I just started a topic titled "extreme hunger" asking this same question. I do have malabsorption and was only dx'd a couple weeks ago. I was thinking...
  5. Lately I've been experiencing something new. All of a sudden I'll feel REALLY hungry...I get a little lightheaded and kinda shaky. I'll feel like I need food badly...RIGHT NOW. I could've just eaten 1/2 hour earlier but you'd think I hadn't eaten in days. I'm eating alot more now than I was before my dx when I was just eating meat, veggies and fish (candida...
  6. Hmmm...after reading all the posts I'm thinking maybe I don't belong here! My dad is Mexican and my mom is Spanish/Italian...never heard of any Irish being in my family tree...but I never really looked into it either.
  7. Yup...you recommended them to me awhile back. Thanks for that! I ordered them online but also found them at Whole Foods. Perfect for me since I have chemical sensitivities (which seem to be improving).
  8. I use Dove soap, Planet dish detergent, Lubriderm Extra Sensitive lotion, All free and clear detergent, California Baby super sens. shampoo & conditioner or Paul Mitchell instant moisture conditioner.
  9. I rarely get the "typical" gastro symptoms. My symptoms are muscle/joint pain, burning/tingling, depression, brainfog, weight loss, fatigue, headache, burning eyes and mouth. Bascially everything but the cramps and diarreah. I've never gotten swelling in my throat though....I think probably Kaiti is right about that being an allergy symptom.
  10. This is the reason I switched to gluten-free...I got sick from my lotion because I was touching my food, licking my fingers and I discovered that I absentmindedly touch my lips everytime I'm sitting here on the computer. Also its not that hard to get shampoo in your mouth while showering...or maybe its just me but for that reason I switched.
  11. I called cover girl, revlon, maybelline...etc..and found out the status of everything I was using before I went out and got all new stuff. It turned out that the only thing I needed to replace was my blush...which was maybelline. They all sent me lists of gluten-containing ingredients so I would know what to look for on the labels. I switched my blush to...
  12. Yeah...this I definately CAN believe. I hope for that guy's sake he never had celiac disease to begin with.
  13. Are you allergic to the dye? I had a Ct scan and the dye wasn't too bad...the guy was really sweet and he held my hand the whole time. Well until the scan started...he quickly abandoned me at that point. He explained everything beforehand...he said it might feel like I had wet my pants but not to worry because its only a "feeling"...it doesnt really happen...
  14. BTW...If you don't want the quotes to appear in your post...instead of clicking on "reply" go down a little further and click on "add reply".
  15. It's definately a big deal. I just got sick this week from eating gluten-free chips that are produced on the same line as gluten-containing foods. You should get the Delphi list Kaiti mentioned...if I had been more diligent and checked the list first I would have read that these chips are no longer guaranteed gluten-free. I've also gotten sick from my lotion...
  16. I havent been doing this very long myself but once you learn about the ingredients and how to shop it just gets easier. The hardest part for me is getting rid of all the "hidden" gluten sources and figuring out what brands are ok. Some stuff *should* be gluten free but then its not guaranteed gluten-free due to possible contamination. Thats the stuff I'm...
  17. I used to be very constipated until I went totally gluten-free. I'm not the best meal planner...I just eat whenever but heres what I've eaten: Day 1 Breakfast: 1 Glutino blueberry breakfast bar 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (Food for Life bread) Lunch: 2 hamburgers with Ener G buns/ avocado/sprouts and onions pumpkin seeds Snacks...
  18. I've tried the whole licking each finger thing before but then every time I'd forget to wash my hands ...so it kind of defeated the purpose.

    ARCHIVED Trouble With Doctors...

I would find a new doc....theres gotta be someone who's smart enough to give the dx based on you being a Celiac and her having a positive response to the diet. As far as having a dx on file...what about for work? What if you get glutened bad enough to call in sick? Wouldn't it be beneficial to have a dx?

    ARCHIVED Trouble With Doctors...

Just curious. I've seen 2 doctors at my HMO since I got my Enterolab results back...they are both supportive of this diagnosis based on my history and symptoms. IMO...they would probably be happy to dx me with *anything* at this point. I think they are tired of seeing me! Well I am scheduled to see the GI on the 13th...if he is not so supportive...will this...
  21. I do the same thing...its very rare now but for 2 years it was nearly daily. I'm surprised I still have ANY friends! Sometimes they'd jokingly say "Isn't it someone else's turn today." He-He...I guess I tortured them. Then when I started to feel better I was out and about and all of a sudden no-one could reach me. They were like "What the heck?...Before...
  22. They were Pamela's cookies...all of the flavors I've tried are really good. I also like Enjoy Life Chewy Choc. Chip....yummy.
  23. I don't know about that ...once my friends tried my gluten-free cookies they wanted to keep munching on them as if they were any other cookies and not the $5 a package kind...which happen to be the ONLY ones I have. I think in the future I will be smart and not offer samples
  24. The only thing that really helps me is sleep....and lots of it. I do get extremely tired but also it helps me escape the pain. If the reaction is bad I'll sleep for most of 2 days. Also I cry alot but after a crying session I'll feel better...then I'll fall into a deep sleep. If the reaction is mild then I'll go outside in the sun and start doing yardwork...
  25. Well I'm single for the time being...so for now I do get privacy! I guess there *are* benefits to being on my own
