  1. I live as if I have celiac's even though I don't have a formal diagnosis. I had only the one blood test which was negative and I had an endoscopy but they only took 2 samples. But all of my symptoms, including a rash which looked just like DH, cleared up when I went gluten-free and then dairy-free so I do believe it is actually celiacs. Unfortunately my...
  2. I think it depends on the person but I know within an hour at most. My symptoms are fairly severe. Within 30-60 minutes my stomach starts rumbling, then the diarrhea and stomach pains hit, then I get a killer headache and total brain fog, feels like I've been drugged, dizzy, etc. Depending on how severe the contamination was it lasts for anywhere from...
  3. I didn't start having solid bowel movements until 6 weeks after going gluten-free and I had digestive problems after eating for 6-8 weeks. Give it time, it will start to improve. One tip - do not eat tons of gluten-free products right at the start. Try to avoid all the gluten-free breads, muffins, etc until your digestive system has a chance to rest...
  4. I went gluten free in November and that wasn't too bad. 5 days ago I had to go dairy-free as well as I was getting sick from it. Since then I am starving, I mean literally hungry every second to the point that my stomach hurts. I can't sleep at night due to being so hungry. I am making sure I get lots of protein and I eat very healthy. I am trying to...
  5. I am 3.5 months gluten free and I can't have dairy I was still eating dairy until this past week but I was still sick all the time. Then I finally decided to bite the bullet and get rid of dairy and my stomach bloat, gas, and diarrhea has gone away. So I am going to do dairy free for 6 months and then try introducing small amounts again. I don't know...
  6. I tried 3 different rice protein powders and I couldn't stand the taste of any of them. I also tried some vegan mix ones and they were also not good. The texture is bad and I put TONS of fruit and all I could taste was the powder.
  7. What does the hemp powder taste like?
  8. I am in Canada so I don't think we have that store. I just tried 4 different powders with lots of fruit and almond milk. All dumped down the sink after a couple sips. I think I will die of malnutrition if I go dairy-free. I barely like meat. And I HATE to cook.
  9. Is there a dairy free protein powder that doesn't taste like garbage?? I have been using Visalus protein powder and having two smoothies a day for two of my meals. Now I am starting to get sick from the dairy. I have tried Vega One and Sunwarrior and they both taste so gross I dumped it in the sink after one sip. I don't like to eat meat or any meat substitutes...
  10. No, I've been drinking these smoothies all along, from day 1. So it probably isn't that. I don't know why the symptoms have come back. I do notice that I react to some products that are labelled gluten free like Enjoy Life cookies or certain kinds of crackers and I can't figure out why. I am going to try eating more natural foods and less gluten free...
  11. I just noticed that on the packaging of some Amy's products it says that it is made in a facility that also processes wheat products and other allergens. Does that mean there could be cross-contamination? I have been eating the products and I am worried that it might be part of the reason why my symptoms are coming back.
  12. I just went and read the ingredients. The package says gluten-free but it does say it's processed on equipment that is used to process wheat products. Is that a problem? How do you avoid being CC'd? I am already doing my own toaster and things like peanut butter. We make sure counters are wiped and things are cooked separately. I'm not going to forced...
  13. I have been gluten-free for 3 months and I started to feel better after about a month and over the last 2 weeks I've started to feel really sick again. I don't think I am getting cross-contaminated bc I am being really careful. The rest of my family (husband and 3 kids) all eat gluten but I wash my hands after handling their food. I am really, really hoping...
  14. This is going to be a rant so sorry in advance if I offend anyone. I am tired of gluten free being talked about as if it is just a choice. So many tv shows, talk shows, books, diet plans, etc all talk about avoiding gluten as a choice for weight loss or just to treat some bazillion symptoms you may be suffering from. Yes, it has led to more products...
  15. I don't have any issue with corn at all, thank goodness!
  16. I was accidentally glutened on Wednesday. I stupidly ate some hash browns that say "may contain traces of wheat" and within 90 minutes I was very sick. I am on Weight Watchers and today I stepped on the scale (not my official weigh in day) and I was up 1 lbs. I am not cheating on my diet at all so I wondering if being glutened can lead to water retention...
  17. LOL John Pinette is awesome! My husband and I met him and got a picture with him in September. I don't work (am a social work student and mother) but I too am tired of the insensitivity. People treat me like I'm being a drama queen when I say I can't eat the bread when they cut it on the same cutting board or I can't eat the potatoes that were mashed...
  18. Still feeling so sick today. I've lost over 2 lbs in the past week bc I can barely eat. I have diarrhea and I'm so nauseous and exhausted. Now my hair is starting to fall out. I took a shower and a bunch came out and my bed is covered in hair that is falling out. I haven't been diagnosed celiac so I don't have a dr following me right now (appt Dec 1...
  19. That food is only what I ate today. I have been eating very healthy the rest of the time. I've only been eating what I feel I can keep down today because I feel like I am going to throw up constantly. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome so I am very aware of what my body does with blood sugar issues, this is totally different, this is digestive.
  20. Is my body detoxing or something? I am just so sick. I have been in bed all weekend and my youngest (7 year old girl) started crying at bed time tonight because I was sick in bed all weekend and couldn't spend time with them. I feel like a horrible parent and I feel so sick and I don't know what to do. I am making sure I am gluten free, I have my own...
  21. I have been gluten free for 2.5 weeks. I am still waiting on my biopsy results but as of now I am not diagnosed celiac (the blood test was negative) but decided to go gluten free anyways bc I have so many of the associated symptoms. The first week and a half I felt a bit better but the last week my stomach hurts all the time again and my fibromyalgia is...
  22. I have been gluten free for 13 days. I don't have a celiac diagnosis (will get biopsy results on the 17th but I think it will be negative bc my blood test was negative) but I am pretty sure I am gluten intolerant. I haven't noticed a huge change in how I feel except I had a bit less stomach ache and my bloating was less. Today the only thing I ate different...
  23. I am currently on day 3 of my diet. I decided to go for it. I definitely don't feel any better yet and I am STARVING! I am eating lots of healthy foods and making sure I am gluten-free. How long until I start to feel remotely better if gluten is the problem?
  24. I am hoping I will not have to go dairy-free. 2/3 of my diet is smoothies (I do Visalus smoothies with lots of fresh fruit and skim milk). The smoothie mix itself is gluten-free but obviously not dairy-free. Maybe I could mix it with almond milk to at least reduce the amount of dairy. But I really don't want to cut it out completely bc the smoothies have...
  25. I am only on day 2 of gluten-free eating and I am being very careful. I guess I thought if I wasn't eating gluten foods that I would stop getting a stomach ache every time I ingest food. This morning I ate gluten-free honey chex (no milk) and about 45 minutes later I had a horrible stomach ache. Same thing awhile later when I ate a gluten-free tart from...
