  1. Yup, you're gonna be a good doctor some day! Soon I hope.
  2. Gee Wiz, where do I sign up. While I am glad that research continues, I don't think "desensitizing" someone to gluten is the "cure". I wouldn't hold your breath on this one. Celiac Disease is not an allergy and you can't treat it as such. Injecting gluten into the blood stream will not have the effect that gluten has on the digestive system....
  3. This is the Serologic Panel to test Celiac Disease: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level.
  4. Happy Birthday Betty too!
  5. I think you have a gluten intolerance, sensitivity or Celiac. Welcome.
  6. "The team's attempts to remove the alpha-gliadin site from the short arm of chromosome 6 of the D-genome (6DS) yielded in a favorable decrease in the presence of T-cell stimulatory epitopes, but also yielded a significantly loss of favorable baking properties" - Quoted from the link you listed. It is interesting. It's great to know that this form of research...
  7. I am sorry that your post was not responded too. An internet search would find some magazines for the gluten free lifestyle, but I would think that advertising would be costly. Contacting the Celiac Sprue Association, Celiac Disease Foundation, the Gluten Intolerance Group and R.O.C.K.- Raising Our Celiac Kids. They have contact information on their...
  8. I don't know if this varies from state to state, but in North Carolina, if you are 65 or older, you can be exempt from jury duty for life, if you contact the clerk's office and show proof of age.
  9. Open Original Shared Link Truimph makes cards and I highly recommend them (or any of their products for that matter). Great idea though.
  10. I don't have any experience with situations like this. I would equal your situation to mine without power after a hurricane. Could you store you own food in a cooler in a private area. There are some good microwave entrees, or toaster Van's Waffles.
  11. Yup, blowin' smoke I believe.
  12. I generally think it's not wise to depend on lists of gluten free products. But cosmetic labeling is often to small to read the ingredients and they use ten dollar scientific words that are difficult to decipher. Clinique, no longer will guarantee their lipstick (a CYA statement), but they will say that there is no gluten added. That's okay with me and...
  13. I am sorry that you are having problems. If there is any activity through C.com that concerns you, PLEASE contact the Administrator. There is no tolerance for that here. We hope to see you again, once your unfortunate issues are take care of.
  14. If my memory is correct, the octopus is not gluten free and all (most) imitation crab meat is not gluten free.
  15. Welcome Amy, Unfortunately, I don't' believe there is an over the counter test for Celiac Disease. You are correct, your mother needs Celiac Blood Panel ordered by her doctor. I don't understand why her doctors found it unnecessary. I thought doctors were available to help people. If testing is not an option for your mother, she could try the diet...
  16. Open Original Shared Link That loooong thread about McDonald's has some very good information in it. This thread indicates that McD's french fries are not gluten free is a bit misleading. They have been been independently tested and it was determined that McD's french fries have a gluten level that is considered safe for people with Celiac to consume...
  17. B-12 injections helped me tremendously when I was first diagnosed. Many people with Celiac are deficient in B-12 and Folic Acid. But, it was about two months before I was able to comfortably leave the house. It takes time.

    ARCHIVED Salad Dressing

Kraft will clearly list wheat, barley, malt and rye. If you don't see it on the ingredients list, it's not in there.
  19. I am glad that you are continuing to seek answers. Listed below is the Blood Panel to test for Celiac. It is not always reliable in young children, though. This blood test, endoscopy/biopsy and a positive dietary response can help to diagnose for Celiac. Antigliadin antibodies (AGA) both IrA and IgG Antiendomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti...

  22. Welcome to the Club! This is a great place. Take a walk around. Keep your diet simple in the beginning. Meats, fish, rice, potatos, fresh veggies and fruit. Stay away from dairy for a while and spend as much time as you can reading here.
  23. Yes the can be, but they are symptomitic of other things as well.
  24. I did not know what Celiac Disease was until I was diagnosed. But, I thought I was dying of Cancer or something equally as grave. Yes, I am grateful for Celiac and the knowledge that I have gained along with my good health.
  25. Open Original Shared Link These are the test that are needed to diagnose Celiac Disease. And endoscopy exam and biopsy can also diagnosed. I would suggest that you also get a full metabolic panel to test for any deficiencies you might have do to possible malabsorption.
