  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Ladies and gents, the only substitute for sex is...well, there is none. And it's ALWAYS gluten-free (or can you get traces of gluten if you swallow?)...
  3. Maureen, True food allergies manifest with typical symptoms of anaphylaxis, eg, hives, constricted throat, wheezing, etc. You would know if you had them. celiac disease is not a food allergy. Kate
  4. "So for me, gambling some money on some well-researched or doctor-recommended unproven treatment that won't hurt me, but might help me feel better is a well-placed bet. You win some and you lose some. But if it won't hurt then why the heck not? Well, maybe I shouldn't have spoken up because I'm new, but this, on a board for a disease that some doctors...
  5. celiac3270, Dahlink, please send me a copy...tcherkate@yahoo.com
  6. Here's a good article on the subject, which lists LEAP testing specifically as a dubious claim. It is also listed as "investigative" on Blue Cross's policy manual (just curious: did your insurance pay for these tests?). Open Original Shared Link
  7. I repeat my assertion, It would seem that in order to design a truly blind clinical study, there would need to be three test groups. One would be a control group that did not change anything. Another would be the test group, which would follow the LEAP Program. A third, and most important group, would be given all the tests, given a list of ingredients that...
  8. Do you have a Trader Joe's? They have great gluten-free salsas and other condiments!
  9. Hi, We with unremitting symptoms are quite vulnerable to dubious claims. I do not know if this program is legitimate, but it certainly has a list of creditialed physicians on board. I do not, however, see a lot of clinical studies that support it. There are testimonials galore, but you can find testimonials for just about anything out there, from snake...
  10. Do you have a website? Can you give me your address? I live about 1hr and 20 min away from Bethlehem.
  11. Where are you located? I want to go eat there, then hug you!
  12. Hi, celiac3270, I've read a lot of your posts and respect your opinion; it's hard to believe you're only 15! Regarding your malrotated intestines, I had a doctor diagnose me with volvulus of the splenic large intestine once. He didn't suggest that there should be anything done about it, though. From what I understand from reading and from other doctors...
  13. I think it's been almost a month since I went gluten-free. I had a positive tissue transglutaminase antibody test, but a normal biopsy. So my GI sent me a letter saying he personally did not believe I have celiac disease, but that it wouldn't hurt to try the diet. I have been vigilant about avoiding gluten. However, my family doctor did a blood test last...
  14. I want you to know you're not alone. I also have narcolepsy and celiac disease. When my pain and diarrhea are bad, I will sleep through the entire day. Sometimes I have to drive in the morning, and I am terrified I will fall asleep. I take Provigil, but it hasn't helped me much. Coffee makes it worse because it exacerbates the diarrhea. I just hope that...
  15. My favorite simple dinner: chicken breasts or fish fillets, dipped in beaten egg, rolled in a mixture of cornflake crumbs and nut meal (almond or walnut is available at Trader Joe's) with salt, pepper, and spices. Fry it till it's golden brown and drain on paper towels. Takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. Serve with veggies, salad, or mashed...
  16. Hi, Rachel, If you overcook any cheese, it separates into clumps with liquid. There's no saving it once it gets to that point. Cheese must be gently melted, usually with some milk added, on low heat or just on top of hot pasta. Kate
  17. I was diagnosed with celiac disease, and since my kids have similar symptoms, my PCP suggested we all go gluten-free. Charlie, the 5-yr-old, ate a piece of bread 3 or 4 days ago, but has not had gluten (I think) since. Tonight, he's got steatorrhea and a tummyache again. I don't know what to tell him; he doesn't understand why he's still sick. I would...

ARCHIVED Doctor Admitted He Was Wrong

Man! Your post gave me new hope. Maybe my doctor, the renowned chief of GI at Temple U, will own up to his error eventually. Maybe then cows will join those pigs in the sky!
  19. Thanks for the advice. I just went to Whole Foods for some gluten-free foods, plus I got rid of all my old unsafe food. Unfortunately, the food at Whole Foods is costly. I don't go to Wal-Mart because of their union-busting activities. I guess it's the price I pay for an overactive conscience. Thanks again, Nini.
  20. That's an ad hominum attack on Dr. Barrett with no basis in evidence. I assure you his credentials are more legitimate than yours.
  21. I've been gluten-free for 3 weeks now, and I'm still sick. My belly is huge and painful, my face is puffy, and I sleep 15 hours and still feel tired. There's some diarrhea, but I take Lotronex, so it's not that frequent. My 5-yr-old with Celiac also had diarrhea today. I was better for a while, but that just lasted about a week. I've been shopping...
  22. Thomas, Check out this site: www.quackwatch.com
  23. Sweetheart, you have a few issues to deal with. First of all, you said, "I feel bad enough for not only giving both my kids gluten intolerance but also for not nagging the doctors enough about it so they found out sooner." That's rubbish. It's not like you went to the disease store and picked Celiac Sprue as a birthday present. You had no choice in the...
  24. Hello, again, I went gluten-free almost 3 wks ago. I felt better immediately, but now I seemed to have relapsed. My belly has swelled to 5-mo-pregnancy size again, and it hurts. Not much diarrhea, but it feels like I have to go constantly. I also slept about 15 hours today, and even when I got up (I had to teach a voice lesson), I couldn't stop yawning...
  25. Don't forget the celery seed!
