  1. I think it could also have something to do if you are sensitive to sulfites, as I suspect that I am. Some wines will bother me more than others, symptoms ranging from stuffiness to acid reflux, to even feeling like I am coming down with the 'flu' (strange, I know, but sometimes, I'll go to bed with a hat, socks, sweatpants, fleece AND have the heated mattress...
  2. Oh yes! I remember this article now, in fact, it was the one that sparked me to contact my insurance company to see if they cover...they didn't even need the diagnostic codes, they said all genetic testing was covered Is there any reason why you decided to use two labs, other than the fact that Enterolabs doesn't cover the alpha portion of the DNA...
  3. I had the same vertigo symptoms which brought me to my doctor on the diagnosis of my hypothryroidism...which is when I was not faithfully eating a gluten-free diet...does this happen to you when you get glutened by any chance? Denise, I have many of the same symptoms that you get, all of which have gotten better after my 'self diagnosis' (didn't have insurance...
  4. Could someone please explain the difference between what is just the 'main' celiac gene an the 'gluten sensitive' gene? what are the differences in how each one tests? sorry to be such a pain...please feel free to post a link to another post/article if necessary. time's a commodity. thanks again!
  5. Hi All, It's been awhile since I have been on the board, and I am at the office quickly trying to get this one in I have just recently gotten a raise via paid health insurance, which, I just found out will cover for DNA testing...YAY! I plan on having that done for family history of Breast Cancer (mom died at 44, I am now 41) and also for...
  6. My dermatologist, of all people, informed me that if one eats imported Irish oats that they are not contaminated...so I tried and have been eating McCaan's without any negative result.
  7. *chills* you've def caught the 'vibe'! funny, I've been thinking about this series lately (read it about the same time you did for the first time) and have been telling myself that I NEED TO PAY MORE ATTENTION!!! And here I've found this post!....coinkydink? I think NOT!!!
  8. I'm looking for friendly restaurant suggestions in the Farmington and Old Saybrook areas. I have friends in those areas and it would be nice to go out to dinner somewhere by them when visiting and not have to be such a pain in the ass about it.
  9. Oooo! *jumps for joy* I live in Southern VT and frequent Western Mass from time to time(spent early years in South Hadley)...I'm printing this out so I can put this in my car for when I want to have a lunch date with someone!
  10. I have DH and even my GI doc looked at me funny when I told him that I get 'rhoids when I am glutened, so I'm glad to read that I'm not such a freak after all (I love this place). I use generic Prep H Cooling Gel (has more medicine in it than the witch hazel wipes), sometimes a calendula ointment and always take a magnesium/cal/vitD supplement.
  11. WE do, but apparently THEY do not. love your avatar M2G!
  12. I had some steamed clams one afternoon at a BBQ this past summer, they were soooo gooood. Later on, the hostess steamed up another batch, and it was then that it dawned on me that I forgot to ask if they use beer in the water to steam them! I asked, and she said she did, so even though it had been a few hours from the first batch without incident and they...
  13. Hi Susie, Dermatologist confirmed that this was the culprit due to my switching from brand-name thyroid meds to generic. I remembered that it had gotten worse when I tried new vitamins, and we determined that there was probably a common ingredient which turned out to be cellulose. She confirmed suspicion right at my first appointment by performing...
  14. I'm so sorry honey! the same thing happened to me when i went to the allergist to be tested and i just about bawled when the test results came back negative. He was really good to me though, and patted my arm and said "that doesn't rule out that you have a delayed response though" and drafted a letter to my primary in my presence that he suspected that...
  15. the products which contain cellulose that I used were all confirmed gluten-free, so this is a totally separate allergy...still haven't found much on the subject
  16. Tinkyada pasta hands down! Glutino pretzels also get my vote. Even my non-gluten-free friends chow on em if I share. Also, for those of you who aren't dairy free, if you miss a Stouffer's style frozen mac-n-cheese, Amys makes a great one!
  17. Have your hairdresser ask the distributor's sales rep to get you contact numbers for all of the brands that you will be using, that way, you can call and be certain. If you run into problems with just regular customer service, you may have to ask if you can speak with the chemist.
  18. I do believe it is the # for Wal-Mart, I called for the Equate generic form of Benedryl and that was gluten free, but I don't remember where I got the # from. Perhaps their pharmacy?
  19. Yeah! This cereal is great. It's so sweet that it's almost kinda like a replacement for Captain Crunch for me, but not as sweet. I miss my Rice Krispies though what's the best substitute that you all use for those?
  20. I've never had a problem, though I don't eat much from there either. My favorite are the Savory Sesame Rice thin crackers...yum...they are about an hour away from me, otherwise, I'd be getting more from them! I didn't know that their pasta is made by Tinkyada! Yay!! I'll have to get some on the next run. Maybe it will be the same price as when I...
  21. Which is why I posted in this forum as the rash I get isn't gluten-related (Dermatitis Herpetiformis=DH) and wish there were someone out there with more information (though I don't wish this on anyone else!). I have had to call all the pharmaceutical companies and ask them about this ingredient too. Thanks for the info that it's a form of...
  22. Hey Alex, Do you by chance use the pre-bagged lettuce?? Reason why I ask is that if I eat that type of lettuce and it hasn't been RINSED first, I get a belly-ache with D. Lots of people don't realize that if one uses this kind of lettuce, even if it says "washed" on the bag, it still sits and festers, so you still need to rinse it before use. I discoverd...
  23. I just recently discovered that the generic thyroid medication that I switched to for about a year was the culprit of my rash (different from DH), hair loss and arrythmia. I suspected that at times when I took some vitamins that the symptoms got worse, so I compared ingredients and what I came up with was cellulose or microcrystalline cellulose (not sure...
  24. I only eat them when i get a craving, which happens for me to be once a month too As long as i can have these and Reese's PB cups at these times, I'm all set Thanks for getting the low down. I was so hoping it was the case of little ppm and not the fact that this was something new that they changed on us! Our local McD's don't fry near...
  25. Okay, so I go to their website to see if they have any info on their iced coffees (too vague to trust) and discovered this: French Fries: Potatoes, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), dimethylpolysiloxane...
