  1. It is frustrating. You have to be in the mode of i am going to live a gluten free lifestyle. You have to read all labels of everything from lotion to every food your daughter may eat. and you have to read the labels every time you buy something. Me and my kids have been gluten free for about 4 years now, and we have had some mishaps now and then. It...
  2. My sister is getting married in May or June, the date has not been set yet. She thinks she can make her own gluten free wedding cake for her own wedding. I keep telling her that she will be far too busy and stressed out to do this, even 2 weeks before the wedding. She says she can make it, then freeze it and have someone else set it up for her. Being that...
  3. I was diagnosed via a blood test as celiac after being sick my entire life (28 years). Initially, when I started the gluten free diet, I was sick for 2 weeks. I was horribly sick, and I first thought why am I doing this? I thought I was getting glutened and ended up throwing out almost all of the food in our house [to avoid cross contamination issues,...
  4. I went undiagnosed through 2 pregnancies. The only "problem" I had was in my 6th month I lost about 5 pounds (with both pregnancies) and the doctors just told me to eat more. They didn't even consider this to be a problem and didn't run and tests. My first baby was born with celiac and not diagnosed until age 4. My second baby didn't get celiac until...
  5. We do the regular trick or treat and then separate the gluten and gluten free candy. I usually send the gluten candy with my child to school and he gives it to all his friends or I would take it to work and put it in a bowl on my desk so my co-workers could chow down. It was usually gone within a couple of days. My kids know that they can't have gluten...
  6. Wow, thanks lvsupport group leader. I will have to check it out.
  7. I am 1/2 swedish, from my mother's side (the side celiac came from), part german, & french from my father's side. The fair skin has nothing to do with gluten. I have an olive skin tone and my mom tan's pretty good too.
  8. You can always try out the gluten free diet for a month, just to do a test run to see if this makes her any better. If it is not gluten intolerance or celiac disease then I would think that her symptoms would continue to repeat themselves. I am no expert, by my oldest son was diagnosed as celiac after a positive response to the gluten free diet. His blood...
  9. Thanks Phyllis28. I did go to the whole foods store and they did have the flours and starches I was looking for, but no lasagna noodles I will keep searching. - Angie
  10. I just moved to Las Vegas, NV and I am looking for a support group near where I live (Horse (north of the 215)& Decatur). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. I just moved to Las Vegas, NV on the northwest side. We live right next to Aliante. I have been trying to find a store that sells gluten free pasta, not just spaghetti (I found some at Wal-mart); also looking for different flours, like potato starch, fava bean flour, tapioca flour, and tapioca starch. I bake alot for my kids and used to be able to buy...
  12. I would give him cream of wheat cereal, which is pure wheat, this way you or the doctor doesn't have any concerns about the other ingredients in the wheat cracker being fed to him after going gluten free. As stated above, I would keep a food journal, with times you fed him. Also write down the reactions, being very descriptive and possible taking photos...
  13. It has been 4 years since me and my 2 oldest sons diagnoses of celiac disease. At first I was in such shock because it was a simple blood test and it took 28 years of [me] feeling miserable and seeing dozens of doctors to get a diagnosis. I was mad that it took so long to get diagnosed and so many of my problems could have been avoided. At the same time...
  14. Lara bars are great to snack on and give you that quick energy you need without coming down hard later. Costco sells them in bulk. Costco has some other snack "bars" that are also gluten free.
  15. Cashew cookie and cherry pie are great.

I got the lettuce wraps. They were great. I did have to ask for the gluten free menu, as they said nothing about it, and it wasn't mentioned in the regular menu, nor was it posted anywhere in the resturant.
  17. When I first started the gluten-free diet, I could not tolerate anything fatty including meats. I just ate low fat the first year ( I know, that sounds like a long time, but I went 28 years with undiagnosed celiac). Now, 4 years later meat doesn't bother me, but I still can't handle fried foods very well, like french fries. Hopefully, with time it will...
  18. It is really hard for everyone in the family at first because it is all so new and unheard of. When me and my children were first diagnosed with celiac, I read a lot on the internet and then would tell the most important things to my husband. I gave him a list of forbidden ingredients and highlighted the ones that were very common in foods, like maltodextrin...
  19. looks safe to me. Just be sure to read the ingredients and make sure it does not say that is was manufactured in a plant that also processes wheat.
  20. When i first went gluten free I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. I only weighed 105, so dropping down to 100 was a big deal for me because I didn't need to lose any weight. After being misdiagnosed for 29 years, it took by body almost 2 years to completly heal. Since having a baby a little over 1 year ago, I have since gained 15 pounds and look so much healthier...
  21. good for you. 90 pounds? you must be tiny!! lol, i only weighed 105 when i was first diagnosed with celiac and within 2 weeks, i had lost 5 pounds. Since then, a little over 3 years ago and my last pregnancy (3rd & last kid), i have gained 15 pounds. So, now i weigh 115 pounds. I feel huge, since I am so used to being so tiny. However, I feel so...
  22. If you feel better without gluten, then why still eat it? Two of my sisters decided to go gluten free, one without being tested and one with a negative test result. They both feel so much better and will never go back to gluten eating again. Test results are not always 100% accurate, you should not hold them to such gold standards that the western world...
  23. obviously you are not concerned if wheat [gluten] is killing you or not. How do you know that your villi have not been damaged by eating gluten? I guess giving up gluten is more difficult for some than others. For me it was easy since I finally had an answer to my lifelong illness. Good luck.
  24. Sounds like celiac. I would definitely be tested just to rule this out. Also, if after being tested (if you come out negative) and you still suspect celiac, you can always do a gluten [eating] challenge.
  25. Dont' let it bother you that you are eating "different" food. Afterall, everyone else will be ordering something different, so everyone will not be eating the same thing. If you have the time, make a gluten-free dish similar to what is on the menu. Ask for a plate, so that you are not chowing out of a tupperware dish. Then discreetly (this is mostly for...
